What a gem this site is! We have - until very recently - been on a seasonal pitch on Sandfield House Caravan Park (more about THAT in my next review!)
A working farm, with showers, toilets, kitchen facilities, laundry and waste disposal for £18. 00 per night INCLUDING electric hookup, what more could you want?
Now, even though there are pros and cons on this site, I am still giving it full marks, as the pros make the cons seem non-existent.
Cons: No hard standing.
Pros: The staff are in a class of their own. The welcome you receive on arrival is so warm and genuine! From the lady in reception, with her huge smile and friendly greeting, to the hard-workers who not only show you to your pitch, but actually take your van and put it on for you. They then level it up and that is that! They are laughing and joking with everybody, and despite the awful weather, they never stopped joking and laughing with the visitors.
The View is immense! I could have sat there all day watching the ships go by, and we were even lucky enough to see a school of dolphins through the binoculars, right there in the bay!
It's an easy walk into town, or a couple of minutes on the bus. A taxi back will cost you £7 - 8.
The on site catering van is beyond measure. I recommend the chicken wrap, which is delicious, HUGE, and fed both me and my Mrs.
The facilities are amazing! I don't know what I expected, but although they are all in porta-cabins, they are clean, modern and most importantly in October WARM! They are also totally FREE!
This site attracts so many nice, kind and genuine people, and we made several friends here whom we hope to meet again when we return, which we fully intend to do in March.
If anyone from the site is reading this, we hope you have a fantastic and peaceful winter :-)

We liked everything about the site from the facilities to the friendly staff, nothing is too much trouble for them and of course the food van with a huge choice of food
We also leave our van on site so we ring to book on site and our van is pitched and ready to set up when we arrive

My friends and I had a fantastic weekend away at this laid back, friendly campsite that was ideally located.
Our experience from calling Gina and booking in to leaving saying we enjoyed having you stay and honestly mean that! Clean, fun, fab location not full of rules.
Good clean, cheap fun with fresh air with good friends given us all a real boost, thanks very much highly recommend this camspite. See you again soon.
Ps Enjoyed our brekkie from the van too before we left for our journey home. Fond memories made Xx

What a fabulous site! I've seen just a couple of middling reviews on here, but you can't really gauge a site until you've visited yourself.
Firstly, the location. A fabulous view of the sea from just about every pitch, and views of fields behind. The farm itself is very rustic and rural but has a great array of facilities including hot, fast, FREE showers, washers, tumble dryer, freezers, microwaves and safes for charging gadgets. The facilities are clean, fresh and always available even when really busy.
Secondly, the staff. Derek (the owner) is a lovely man and so welcoming. He makes each and every customer feel special and always has a smile on his face. His staff - Jeana in reception and Sandy and Terry (who do all the pitching and groundwork along with Derek), are really good fun and so helpful. They really can't do enough to keep us happy!
Thirdly, I have to touch on this point. I have seen lot of reviews that site faults like grasscutting on bank holidays (cows need feeding and have no concept of bank holidays), 'A mound covered in tyres' (this is called 'silage' and is grass that ferments over the summer and autumn so it can be fed to the cattle in winter. The tyres hold down the plastic to keep out the oxygen) and tractors starting up in the morning. Why would anybody complain about this? The clue is there in the name - High Straggleton FARM - it's a farm. There are farm noises, farm machinery, not to mention cows and dogs. If you don't want to see silage pits, hear tractors or smell that healthy rural air, go somewhere with 'Park' in the name rather than 'farm'.
The beach is a ten minute walk away and Whitby another ten either on the beach or on the promenade.
Finally, the fees. Two adults and a child - £14. 00 without hookup and £17. 50 with. Where else are you going to find that degree of value for money? This site is an absolute Gem.

I have visited this site again and again for the past ten years, and I can't find anywhere I'd rather go.
The area is superb, and the views from the site itself are wonderful; you can see right out to sea, up towards the Abbey and East towards the headland. Every time you look at the view it changes. An artist would have gala day here.
The facilities have drastically improved this year with four improved tracks to the pitches. The toilets have had a refresh and have all new sinks in both ladies and gents. All the facilities are still free - showers, washers, drier, microwaves, freezers and there are even safes that those who travel light can use to securely charge phones etc.
With a fee of just £17. 50 per night including electric hookup, the value for money is first class.
On arrival, you unhitch your caravan, and they pitch it for you and level up so well you'd think they had lazer vision!
We went at Easter this time, and though the weather was horrendous, lots of people had turned out. Despite the mud, everyone had a great time. The owner, Derek, is always on hand to tow out anybody who gets stuck, which the team did with a smile no matter how cold and wet they got.
There's a Costcutter just up the road, 2 minutes by car and about fifteen minutes on foot. Around twenty minutes walk is a Lidl, but it's always best to do your shopping in town, keeping the local businesses going. As well as the tourist shops, there are butcher's shops, greengrocers, freezer shops clothes shops, charity shops, tobacconists and even a watchmender. There are many fish restaurants of course, and also takeaways - Chinese, Asian, Italian and Mexican.
This site gets better every year, and no matter where else I go, I always end up coming back here. Best site in Yorkshire.

What a find! My husband, grandkid's and myself stayed here because we couldn't get in at the site we had wanted to stay at, and they suggested we tried here. Bad move on their part as we will come here all the time from now on.
Staff are just superb, Jenna in the reception hut is there to welcome you and Sandy who rides around on a quad bike who was checking up on everything to make sure all was happy and smooth. I spoke at length with the owner who was a lovely man, Dereck, and he told me all about the problems farmers have been facing, especially milk producing. He was very knowledgeable on a number of subjects and seemed to smile all the time as did the rest of the staff! They even set up you caravan for you which is great, and one of the men who set us up has a long white beard so we told the kids it was santa clause doing his real job.
The view is spectacular of the sea and the cliffes. There was lifegards on the beach telling you where to swim and where not to, so we always felt safe, even with the youngest who is three and fearless.
Facilities are fabulous, clean and sanitary, but basic. There was no cue for any of the showers or toilets and EVERYTHING is free including the washers and tumble drier! Given the low site fees, it makes this site exellent value for money.
About twenty minutes away there is a '7-11' shop that stocks everything you'll need, and a five minute drive will take you to the local Sainsburies. There's also a Lidl close by in walking distanse if you like the cheaper supermarkets. If you're a Waitrose person, shop before you set off!
The beach is about fifteen minutes away on foot across a field and down a path that crosses the golf links. We found a really big fossil on our first walk down there.
We will be back! Oh yes, we will!

Been visiting this site since 2007 and try to stay 2 or 3 times a year. Over that time we have seen lots of improvements but at the end of the day it is a working farm so please don't expect caravan club standards. Having said that, the facilities have always been clean and the site has a very fair and affordable pricing structure.
The dog friendly beach is about a ten/fifteen minute walk along a footpath and there are also other walks close by including a lovely lake and woods at the Raithwaite estate.
However one of the best things about this site is the friendliness of the owners and all who choose to stay here. Ian the warden was on hand to show us where to pitch and Derek, the farmer, had the van set up and levelled without us even having to do anything ourselves. Fantastic service and a very enjoyable stay.

This site is in a perfect location regarding the area but I do feel that it is in great need of an overhaul regarding the facilities, the shower blocks are unisex set in 2 portacabins but the problem being that there is 2 showers in each but unless you go in with a family member only 1 can be used as you have to lock the outside door when you enter and when we were there only 1 out of the 4 showers were working. The kitchen hut is fine with 2 washers 1 dryer 2 freezers and 2 microwaves. The toilets are also in portacabins which are basic.
The tent field is on quite a slope and there is no set out pitches which is quite confusing as the ehu are scattered around the field just using very long extension cables with 2 points on each we found it hard to work out where to plug into as you do have to look around for these(not to keen on the safety aspect to this set up). The caravan field does look a bit unsightly and there is'nt really a very clear view of the sea as this is obstructed by a pile of wood and a large mound covered in tyres.
There does seem to be a few families that visit each year as it is good value for families and if I was visiting this area again I would return because of the location
Warden were very friendly

We'd stayed at this site 5 or 6 times before and had always had a really good experience - there's a lot of space so kids can play without getting in anyone's way, there's a great view of the sea, the toilets and showers are fine, and we'd always found the other campers to be nice people who were there for a pleasant, peaceful stay.
Unfortunately, our recent stay was not good at all, due to the behaviour of one group of campers who were drunk, noisy, playing very loud music and behaving in an aggressive and intimidating way. The management were informed, but nothing was done for several hours, by which time the situation had become extremely unpleasant. I was reluctant to post a negative review initially, as we'd never had any problems there before and one bad bunch of campers isn't the site's fault unless they fail to deal with it, so I was giving them the benefit of the doubt that maybe the manager hadn't understood quite how bad it was. I emailed them when we got home to explain exactly what had happened, mainly because I didn't know how long these people were staying and thought the manager needed to know exactly how they'd been behaving so they could make sure it didn't happen to anyone else, but I haven't even had a response from them. This is pretty disappointing and makes me wary of using that site again, even if it was previously one of our favourites. This was a one-off incident in our experience there, but the management did not deal with the issues until it was far too late - we and other campers had had our evening thoroughly spoilt, and were feeling unsafe and upset. I'm just glad we didn't have kids with us.
