We have just come back from a 3 night stay at this campsite and we are very happy campers.
The site has a toilet block with 2 toilets (mixed) and 1 shower.
There is also a composting toilet (mixed) which is well maintained.
They have a washing up sink with cold water only and a fridge/freezer which all can use.
There is an honesty shop for all your basics, bread, rolls, milk, butter, coal, wood, matches etc. Snacks like nuts, cakes and muesli. Extras like washing up cloths and insect repellent candles. This was the best feature of the site, as it gave a feel good factor. You put your money in the tin which is left on the side and take any change needed.
Drinking water taps located at both ends of the site so you don't have to go far. In fact everything is close at hand.
The site is next to a forest and a road. They have 2 horses, some sheep, chickens and a dog which the children can stroke and feed. There is a 5 min walk to monkey world through a field. The pitches are large with plenty of room for playing games with the kids. Only a slight slope, however we had a flat pitch. There were a lot of flies about in the morning and evening and although a bit annoying they did not detract from a great site. There is an option to rent a fire pit which can be used for cooking. This is great for the evening where you can all sit around the campfire, toasting marsh mellows and enjoy the stars.
The Owners Mark and Sally are very helpful and come and see you every night to ensure all is well. They have a real passion for back to nature camping and this shows at the site.
Overall a wonderful site with a great atmosphere. A very unique camp site which works well. We will be returning soon.

What a great campsite!
We have just come back from a bank holiday weekend at the site, It was one of the best camping weekends we have had, Sally and Mark the owners where great and came round every night to see how we were.
The fire pit was great and we did not use our gas once. The honesty shop was fab. It was amazing to hear the monkeys in the morning.
The new compost loo was very clean. Even with a party in the end field and the campsite being full we never had to queue for the loo, they are putting in some more showers as at the moment there is only one. We are already planing when to go back and my 2 year old wants to see the chickens again.

I have to agree with all that has been said about Longthorns!
We had a wonderful break there over the Easter weekend and found a clean and quiet site tucked between a wood, Monkey World and dipping away to a wooded valley.
Pretty level and well drained (it had rained each night before we arrived and on Good Friday morning too). However, we enjoyed stunning weather for the rest of the trip.
Loved the honesty shop and the free range eggs were fantastic! Our dog is still oh so disappointed that she could not bag herself a nosey chicken in our awning though LOL!
It would be great to have a light in the dishwashing area as washing up by torchlight is a bit hit and miss!
It was great sitting round the barbecue in the evening sunshine listening to the monkeys and there were other kids for ours to play with and along with the animals this served to keep them amused, so we did not miss a playground or facilities.
Went into Weymouth twice as the weather was so amazing and it was an easy journey. Weymouth is a delight! Lovely, sandy beach with Punch & Judy, donkies, trampolines etc. All very child friendly and a bit of old fashioned seaside atmosphere.
Sally and Mark have a little gem in this site and I am certain we will be back.

We have just spent four nights at Longthorns Farm and found the owners, Mark and Sally to be very helpful and friendly.
The campsite has only basic facilities ie two toilets (mixed) and one shower which are situated in one porta-cabin. Both were very clean and the shower always had hot water. The toilets and the shower were free. The campsite was not busy on the days we stayed therefore we did not have to queue for the shower.
The campsite had a gate in the corner that lead into the car park of Monkey World so it was nice to have a day at Monkey World without having to use the car. We could also hear the monkeys each morning.
Our nine year old daughter loved this site. There is no play area however she was able to stroke the horses and sheep and feed the chickens. The children were welcomed by the owners and were able to play ball games etc in the centre of the field.
The campsite is on a main road but we were not disturbed by the traffic. We did however hear the occasional military tank passing down the road.
We will definitely be returning again in the future and would recommend this site.

We stayed for 1 night on our way to visit friends and received a warm welcome from Sally on our arrival.Everything mentioned before I wholeheartedly agree with and would recommend this site for a fab break. What a great location with lots of space and impressive toilet/shower facilities. Lovely walks with the dogs who were welcome to the site, not a lot in the honesty shop because of it being winter, but all the basics were there with some fresh eggs (delicious!) Such thoughtful things are a lovely touch and make all the difference.

Couldn't agree more with Belle Mcintosh.
Very laid back and peaceful.
Mark and Sally are two wonderful people and make you feel very welcome.
Grass is kept short and the toilets and shower are kept spotlessly clean.
Situated in a good location for walkers and the local attractions
Would definitely give it five stars

Just returned home after a 2 week stay at this site. This is my honest review. I have tried to be factual throughout.
First come the review of the site.
The site is basic, a relatively small field with room for about 20 pitches. There is a gentle slope over most of the field which does not cause a problem although there is one small area were the slope is greater and could be a problem. Everybody who visited while we were there avoided this one particular area.
The field is fully fenced off and gives access to the nearby Monkey World attraction, a two minute walk through a gate at the bottom of the field.
Facilities are also basic but adequate. They consist of a portacabin structure containing 2 toilet cubicles & 2 washbasins, To the side of the washbasins is an area with a mirror and dresser surface to facilitate shaving, putting on make-up etc.
The cabin also houses a separate shower room with washbasin. The 9.5Kw electric shower is excellent with enough water pressure and heat to please anyone. To the side of the cabin is a water point (Not Drinking Water) and the rubbish bins / recycling containers.
On the opposite side of the field is the washing point with a separate drinking water tap fitted with a convenient short hose which enables yopu to rest your water container on the floor while filling.
The area also houses a large fridge/freezer which is primarily used to stock eggs, bacon drinks etc which you can purchase. There is also a small cabinet that contains bread etc. These items are left unattended and the proprietors rely on the honesty of the campers to pay for the items they use in the money container.
Whilst the primary use of the fridge freezer is for the items for sale, campers are actively encouraged to use the fridge freezer to store their food and freeze any blocks. This works fine when the site is quiet but the fridge can get full at busy periods.
The nearest shop is the Spar in nearby Wool (about a 5 minute drive) open till 10pm and you pass the nearest petrol station getting there which closes earlier than the Spar. There is a 24 hour Asda in Poole which is about 15 minutes away outside of peak traffic.
Mark and Sally (The proprietors) are great. They are really friendly and helpful. They keep a watchful eye on the place without being oppressive as you find on some sites.
I would certainly return to this site when visiting the area again but would prefer that there were no groups in residence at the same time.
My personal thoughts about the site.
Overall, I found Longthorns Farm to be one of the better sites I have used. In the main, the facilities hold up well but if the field was full to capacity may well cause long queues. The proprietors have future plans to improve the facilities though.
The shower was great though the carpet mat that is in the shower room gets full of grass so make sure your footwear is near to the shower door when you step out.
I could not get any hot water out of the heaters in the shower or the wash basins so a cold water wash was the only option unless you took your own hot water up with you.
The dish washing facility while covered is not fully enclosed and again there is no hot water on tap. Again, take your own hot water.
We did not find the lack of Hot water a problem and it did not spoil the holiday at all.
The only real criticism I have is not specific to this site. Whilst we were there a group of about 5 or 6 arrived. I generally find that when groups appear at any site they tend to spoil it for everyone else by being noisy and taking over. This particular group let their children run wild and also virtually blocked the entrance to the field.
I hope Mark and Sally change their policy on accepting large groups.
Nearby Attractions.
Monkey World is the nearest being just a two minute walk away. Great for those that watch Monkey Business or just want to look at the primates - not so great for photographers as although photography is allowed, it is not a camera friendly place with lots of fencing and glass viewing areas covered in hand prints.
Next is the Tank Museum. An excellent place to visit where you can get up close with all the exhibits but no climbing on the tanks.
Also within a short drive are lots of coves and beaches, the most famous being Durdle Door but beware of the long walk down a steep path and some very steep steps. This walk is even longer when the car park is full. There are no facilities at the beach - the nearest facilities are on the large & busy campsite at the top of the cliff. The beach is made up of small stones not sand.
Corfe castle is near Swanage which is just a short drive away. There is a small sandy beach at swanage which gets crowded by midday on hot sunny days.
Further afield lie many attractions including Weymouth, Portland Bill Lighthouse, Longleat, and in Yeovil there is the Haynes motor museum and the RNAS Fleet Air Arm Museum which for me was the best attraction in the area.

The camp was lovely, well maintained and very clean. Everyone is so friendly and the atmosphere is superb. Our main reason for the visit was to go to monkey world and we just could not believe how close we were (a two minute walk), to hear the gibbons singing every morning was awesome. The location is really good as weymouth is only a short car journey away.
We had a great time and will definitely be returning

Have just spent the most fabulous weekend at Longthorns Farm. If you are looking for peace, quiet and tranquillity this is your place. We stayed in our motorhome although they also offer Tee Pees to stay in which are well equipped. There is a small toilet and shower which was very clean and dish washing area which considering your staying in a farmers field to great! Mark and his family were wonderful hosts and the links on their website were very useful. If you are planning to visit Monkey world this was the only campsite where you can walk two minutes to get there (fantastic). We are returning in two weeks and can not wait to get away from the rat race again. Highly recommended.
