We chose this site because it is literally right next door to Monkey World, our prime reason for a Dorset holiday. The staff are superbly friendly and helpful, even going to the lengths of putting our tent back up when it came down in 50 mph winds! The fields and pitches are spacious and well laid out, plenty of room for ball games etc in the middle of the field and it was lovely to see and hear the children running around having fun. The facilities are good quality with 5x toilets and showers in ladies side (and presumably in the gents too) plus a family/accessible bathroom. My partner (who is disabled) felt that the accessible bathroom could have been improved by having grab rails around the shower area, and sharing it with families meant that sometimes there were queues for that room, but then it was the height of the holiday season.
Everything was kept spotlessly clean and the provision of hot water to the outdoor (under shelter) washing up sinks was appreciated. Waste recycling was very much in evidence including a food waste bin for composting. The shop stocked essentials and alpaca wool too. There is a small bar that opens for a few hours each night that also does bar food. It was all quiet after 10pm and a very family oriented site all together. The real highlight is the alpacas, grazing happily in the fields besides the campsite.
The location is fantastic for lots of attractions in this part of Dorset and we especially loved Monkey World. Other places near by are Wareham, Bovington tank museum, Corfe Castle and the whole Jurassic Coast too.
The only things to note are that there is sometimes some traffic noise as it is just off a main through route between Beer Regis and Wool, and the tanks were doing night manoeuvres sometimes too. These were the tiniest downside to a fantastic holiday at a well run site which we will certainly recommend to friends and will use again when we return to this area.

My wife and I spent 12 days at Longthorns back in 2012 and returned in 2018 for an 8 night stay.
During the intervening 6 years the site facilities have been upgraded, as noted at the time a proper amenities building was going to be the last piece in the jigsaw. It's now firmly in place with a very nice shower/toilet block offering plenty of facilities for campers plus outdoor washing up sinks.
But to begin with, our welcome by Sally was so warm. Not only did she recognise us from 6 years ago, she knew instantly that we were staying with friends who would be arriving the next day and advised on some suitable pitches as well as blocking the next pitch so our friends could camp there when they arrived. Really the level of service is 'above and beyond', of which more later.
The site is quite similar to 2012 other than the improved toilet/shower block. Though the hot summer meant the grass was brown, the camping fields are just as quiet and peaceful. Mark & Sally won't let them get over full, with units pitched on the periphery leaving the middle area available for kids to run around and play. There are no specific play facilities but many campers bring footballs, rugby balls, swingball etc. One of our friends had a 9 year old boy who always found other kids his age to play with.
We hired a fire pit which was great on the long, warm summer nights. You can also see the night sky and stars as there's no artificial lighting on the site at night. The alpacas are still there in two fields, lovely to watch and very curious animals if you approach their enclosure. The woodland walk is still there, though with more foliage than 2012. And of course Monkey World is just a short walk across a field. There's also plenty to do within a 30 minute drive such as the tank museum, Lulworth Cove, Durldle Door, Swanage with it's beach and heritage railway, Studland beach, . Corfe Castle and much more. Longthorns has a cabin with many leaflets for local attractions inside.
The new facilities include 'The Parlour' which is a seasonal bar offering mostly local ale and cider, and cooked food. We used this once and found the food to be good quality (venison and beef burgers with wonderfully thick chips) and good value. The new toilet/shower block includes a family/accessible room as well as the expected male/female areas. These are kept spotless and also have mops to encourage campers to do their bit too. The whole site is beautiful and well kept.
One last word, while packing up my wife tripped on a tent peg and twisted her knee. A staff member helped me pack up the tent once again proving that Longthorns go that extra mile. Thoroughly recommended for everyone. I cannot think of any single fault here.

What a gem this campsite is, open all year bonus, owners very friendly, campfires allowed a great choice of where to pitch, toilets/ showers very clean not used showers as we were there only for 2 nights, on site there are Alpacas very friendly, sheep & horses. They also have eco loos (hole in ground) type loos and they are pleasant to use. There is Tipees to hire, shepherds huts & eco lux pads too! We paid £25 for 2 people for two nights that’s cheaper than the other sites we stayed at! We will be regularly camping here! They also have a parlour where you can have something to eat & shop but being out of season an we were the only ones mad enough to be camping this time of year was closed.

We found the site when planning a trip to Monkey World and stayed for three nights. It was lovely in every way. It was easy to find and clearly signed. On arrival we went to reception and because we were in a tent and didn't need a hook up we were given lots of options. We chose our pitch on the gently sloping fields, close to the great loo and shower block and with a view of two fields of alpacas - heavenly!
After a day out locally on the first day, on the second day, we walked along the little back path to Monkey World - a fantastic day out.
Lots of things made the site extra special; firstly, the friendly and approachable staff, for whom nothing seemed too much trouble, secondly the pop-up bar with good value meals, which was a lovely way to spend the evenings and thirdly the alpacas!

We stayed here for 2 nights. The staff were lovely and the site was nice. But what badly let this site down were the showers. I think they are quite new. They were the press button type which lasted about 20 seconds a push, but the worst thing about them was only 2 hooks on the doors, no stool and no curtain to pull across, so everything got soaked, trousers, shoes, etc. Would not stay here again because of that.

This was our second visit to the site which has now become a firm favourite. The staff are very friendly and the facilities are modern and very well maintained. The shop is small but stocked with basics and luxuries (our camping essentials - booze, croissants and nibbles). The small bar does a really nice 'tear and share', which is good value and a welcome treat when arriving late at the site. Plus waking up to the monkey's call is a lovely experience!

Visited Monkey World and stayed here for one night. You can access Monkey World through a metal gate so perfect location (and the Gibbons wake you with their morning call!) Campsite itself is well maintained and clean. Everything is well sign posted such as grey waste and drinking water. The 6 amp hook up was fine for us, our kettle and toaster worked but we didn't use them at the same time. Lighting in van worked also. Clean toilet facilities and hot showers. One tip though, don't take your clothes too deep into cubicle because they will get wet!
Honesty shop wasn't open (think it opens in April)
There are pubs in Wool but campsite isn't within easy reach on foot because you have to walk along a busy road. We managed it however and caught a taxi back. Only criticism (and I know it's a working farm) is that the resident sheep dog was very barky/snarly when we attempted to empty our grey waste. It was on a lead and the owner had just popped out in car. If she was around she would have controlled it for us no doubt.

Stayed at Longhorns Farm during the school holidays. They have clean facilities and really useful fridge and freezer for people to use, although they get very full! Children can walk the Alpacas which is great! Quite expensive for camping but in a great location.

We booked Longthorns as we were also bringing my Dad who wanted to visit Monkey World. Monkey World is very easily walkable directly from the site and is a flat, level walk taking approx 15 mins, depending on which field you're pitched in.
The booking process was very straightforward and a deposit was paid with the full balance payable on arrival. I think my husband paid this via debit card.
We were in the first field that you come to on arrival. This is where the hook ups are and we wanted EHU. We had the choice of three pitches and chose one which had a gravelled hard standing. There are another 4 fields, the fourth being the glamping field where the Shepherds Huts and Ti-pee's are located.
The washblock, toilets, washing up sinks, reception/shop and The Parlour are located just after the first (main) field. There was also a fridge freezer in this area for campers food and ice blocks.
The Parlour is a patio area with tables and chairs, some bench seating and a fire pit. There is also a bar attached to it (open as stated on their website). They also serve food which I'm assuming is weekends only out of the main season. We ate on the Saturday evening and they even accommodated the fact I don't eat certain meats by offering to do me a pulled pork bap to go with the chips and salad. The food was good and the fact the fire pit was lit and there was some music just added to the relaxed feel.
We were really impressed with the range of products stocked in the shop as it's only small - everything from alcohol, dairy produce, fresh burgers, sausages, bread, milk, toiletries, snacks, fruit and socks made from alpaca wool. The Honesty Cart was also very well stocked (just outside reception / shop).
The washblock was kept extremely clean - 5 showers and toilets in the Ladies and similar in the Mens.
We booked to walk a couple of the alpacas on the Sunday evening we were there. We learnt a lot from the guy that went with us and I'd certainly recommend the experience.
All the staff were very helpful, friendly and approachable. The site has a wonderful laid back and relaxed feel to it. You're not 'crammed' in or subject to regimented pitching rules. There are nice views and there are views of the animals from most of the fields. The only minus (although it isn't really) is that due to being in a rural area, you will need a vehicle or bike to get about.
We loved this site and certainly intend to return. Thanks to all the team at Longthorns for a fab 1st visit and a very relaxing much needed break.

A really nice site located between MoD tank training ranges and a monkey house - I doubt many sites could say that!
The site is very well maintained, loos and showers are plentiful although the shower temperature seemed to be different every day.
There's a honesty shop with milk etc and the reception sells things also. There are some shops/takeaways in the village a couple of miles away. In the camping field there was a fridge/freezer which was very handy.
The MoD land means that you get the occasional tank rumbling past on the road next to the site but I didn't find the noise an issue.
Nearby you've got Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door which are both worth a visit. Further afield you've got the 'Hovis' street and Beaulieu motor museum. So, yes, there is plenty to do!
The pitch size is fine and there are several fields to choose from. The only downside to my stay was a couple of families who arrived on Friday night and had zero consideration for anyone else - kids cycling and yelling at each other at 6. 30am, cars parked over other folks' pitches etc etc.
All in all a good base from which to see the sights of Dorset.
