Please note this site is reopening in March 2014. It is under new ownership and has been refurbished and will have a mixture of grass and hard standing and heated washrooms.

Many comments in reviews from 2009 and previous years when the site was run by the Caravan Club are not therefore relevant to the new site. Please note this site is reopening in March 2014.  Slightly disappointed with this site as the site was really full when we arrived, which left us with a few pitches in the grass area (nr Fodders) to choose from and they were a bit cramped. Uninspiring, not the usual CC surroundings.

Toilets are clean, but not as you would expect from the Club, ready for updating.

Would use again though for a weekend, as the site is really convenient for Harrogate. No need at all to use the car, bus cheaper and easier than trying to park in town.

Won't say too much about the facilities as they are typical of what you expect from a caravan club site. Everything very much as it should be.

This is a lovely peaceful site, probably more suited to us grumpys than families as there are no play facilities and I guess not loads of spare space for balls etc when full.

The position of the site is just perfect if you want to visit Harrogate particularly if like us you are motorhomers who like to leave the 'rig' on site and walk or use buses for your touring.

The site is a few minutes from a Sainsbury and petrol station so everything you need (and all building work is complete , see previous review).

Just before Sainsbury there are offices for the Yorkshire Agricultural Show and a large Deli and cafe called 'Fodders' showcasing Yorkshire food. Pretty pricey but a great place to wander round with some super stuff on offer.

To get to Harrogate the 770 bus runs every half hour from outside Sainsbury and a family day Rover is the cheapest option (at £6.60) even if you are just a couple.

Harrogate itself has loads of pubs, shops and eateries. If you want to visit Bettys Tea Room make sure you take a credit card ( Thomases Bakery in the main shopping street do 'Fat Scamp' scones at 60p each which are every bit as good as Bettys 'Fat Rascals' for £2.90!).

We visited the RHS gardens at Harlow Carr which were fabulous , just swap buses at the bus station.

Nearer to home The Travellers Rest Pub which is a couple of minutes walk across the showground (probably unofficial but everyone does it) serves nice food and a decent selection of real ales. Campers get 10% off the total bill with a voucher which you can get free from the camp site office.

We loved it.

This site has one major positive - the location is superb in terms of access to Harrogate. The site itself is well kept, as you'd expect from a caravan club site and has a mix of hardstand and grass pitches.

On the downside, the site is located adjacent to a retail development which is undergoing substantial building work. Whilst this didn't affect us too much as we were out and about most days and the building work ended at 5pm, it was a little irritating to be woken up at 8am on a bank holiday Saturday by the block pavers.

Toilet facilities are a little dated, but are well maintained and spotlessly clean. There is some great attention to detail in terms of things like the height of taps to fit your water carrier and a handy shelf for chemical toilet caps.

Site fees are very cheap, considering the location. To stay at nearby Rudding Park (admittedly the facilities there are much superior, but the site is rather impersonal) will cost nearly three times the price per night.

Will stay here again, despite the building work!

We stayed over the May bank holiday weekend. We picked the site based on it's location, which is very close to the centre of Harrogate.

The toilet blocks are ample, spotless and free. I have only two slight grums,

1,During our stay the water in the showers was only lukewarm.

2,The blocks are closed for cleaning from 10.30 to 11.15 am, it would be better done after midday.

We were pitched on a small area behind the toilet block, which was not the most scenic as it over looked a warehouse and an office block and we was unable to park the car next to the tent. The rest of the pitches on site looked ok but I think it is more geared up for caravans than tents.

I would visit again because the location is very good. Although I think I would ask for a better pitch.

This is a convenient site for visiting Harrogate, Wetherby and even York. It is a quiet site in itself and may not suit families with young children. The toilets are up to the usual club standard, good dish-wash area and site shop sells a few essentials. There is a sainsburys a couple of hundred yards from the site, right next to the main road. The bus service is excellent, running every half-hour to Leeds one way and back to Harrogate the other. For Harrogate on the bus, if there is two adults, buy the Family day-ticket,two can travel as far as Knaresborough for a fiver. It would certainly help if a pavement could be laid on the access road past the site, it always seems to be busy and you have to keep stopping to let the traffic past. Try the Travellers Rest for a pint and a meal, it is an easy walk from the site. We keep returning to Harrogate as there is always something for every season. Unspoilt and charming.
