A really lovely site next to the estuary and a friendly good welcome even though I hadn't pre-booked. Was very cheap at £5 for one night for me and my 2 man tent. Toilet facilities were good and was very useful to have plug points so I could charge my phone whilst taking a shower.
A lovely pub was right at the entrance to the site serving very good food. Looked like there was another good pub a bit further up the road that I saw on the way out in the morning.
Overall a decent site.

I have regularly visited this site since 1988, when it was basically a field with a portable cabin for toilet, washing and shower facilities. It has gradually improved over the years, although was often guilty of having units pitched far too close to each other. I spent just one night on my recent visit, a small tent and on a motorcycle. My first time for 2 years.
Eddie is still there! It now appears in an official capacity. He appeared as I arrived and asked me pitch and 'come and find one of us later' to pay and register.
I pitched then found Eddie and I was shown into the reception office which has sprung up since my last visit. I was charged only £5. 00 for the night and for the first time ever at Axe Farm I was given a receipt!
I have always had pleasant stays at this site, it has everything I need there, is a short walk to a couple of pubs and only a small distance from some of the best coastal scenery in the country.

Return visit, its one of our favourites for location, so varied in small area. Site located right on the estuary behind a lovely food pub near Seaton, in the lovely village of Axmouth. Its improved a lot since the new wardens have been working there, the place feels less like a raggy field behind a pub, and more like a tidy happy friendly simple little place, not deathly quiet like a library, more like a relaxing happy atmosphere that still allows bird song and nature to shine through.
The wardens were brilliant, helpful, welcoming, hardworking, great people pleasure to meet. My airbed pump broke and they let me borrow one for sale which we decided to buy.
Facilities are basic but clean, EHU, showers, toilets, washing up, laundry room and a nice recently upgraded little shop.
It can get windy on the front row overlooking the estuary, worth it for the view, or more sheltered back a row or two. No gnats and mozzies, yay!
Nothing for children on site, so it was quiet, but lots for kids in surrounding areas, so if you're a family who love going out and about for most of the day you wont mind.
Dogs are welcome, running field and poop bins available on site, or walk along estuary which gets a bit muddy. Walk around the village on a lead, and up some of the quiet hilly country residential lanes, or for the dogs allowed part of the beach go 1 mile towards seaton and park up in layby before the bridge, keep left past cafe and harbour inlet and head left out onto pebble beach by the cliffs, brilliant.
Beware the tides there though, apparently kids / dogs are easily swept out with the tide coming out of the estuary in a narrow point so don't do what one family did and let their youngsters play in a little plastic dingy unsupervised.
Plenty of other dog walking routes nearby, country parks and commons but you'll need the car.
Seaton is a modernised, slightly kiss me quick kind of seaside town, with old parts still quiet chraming in the middle, and lots of new low apartments on the outskirts. Overall well maintained, and good mix of shops including artists and curio/collectables, and a big supermarket. Great fish n chip shop, some nice cafes etc. Try lardy cake from the bakers!
Seaton tram is well worth a trip, sit up top for great views ( not for vertigo sufferers) or take the dog downstairs, get off at Colyton and walk into the village, charming and picturesque, give yourself plenty of parking time in the long stay by Tescos, we had 4 hours, we watched a wedding at the church, beautiful, the whole village turned out and they rang the bells. We stopped at the big warehouse junk antique store at Colyford by the tram platform, found some nice collectables.
Had lunch on the tram platform, basic pasty/sandwiches etc good price, pleasant interesting experience watching the trams go back and forth, the driver guards are entertaining!
Bird watching sanctuary with hides right nearby. Popular place for fishing and crabbing too.
So its a great varied place in a small area, we will be back soon with the caravan or tent. It might not appeal to posh caravan club members who like the finer things in life, but there is a simple charm that will keep us coming back to relax and enjoy.
I gave it a 9 out of 10 for facilities, because it had everything I wanted and no more, except for a dog shower, I'd love to see one installed, its a great bonus for dog owners, especially in a tent. I gave low child friendliness, but again I see this as a bonus.

I have been meeting up with family at this campsite for the last 3 years. We all love it because it's what camping is all about - basic.
There's a shower and toilet block, which is cleaned daily, a small hut for groceries, which is only open for a short while in the mornings, and a couple a pubs which are very close.
Owners are very welcoming and rubbish is cleared regularly. Rates are very, very good.
Seaton is less than a 5 minute drive, or a 15 minute walk, where you can ride on a tram.

A well priced site with good basic amenities. There are a fair few weekender permanent caravans. With a pub at the entrance, (a real one, not a club bar) I would recommend for those not too fussy. However, the group in a huge tent near to me, who moved in after I had pitched, did not go quiet until 4. 30am, so there is little noise control. I only stayed 1 night, leaving at 7am, else the music, loud talking, weird noises and car doors slamming would have flipped me! Friendly wardens on site.

This site is just off the road through Axmouth and next to the Axe Estuary. I was quite happy with it and would use it again. The price per person (£5) in small tents (you pay more if you have big tents/motorhomes/awnings etc) is very good. There is a small shop (shed)but I didn't see it open. There is an honesty box for fees if you miss the owner, which I think shows a good attitude to running a site.
There is just one field, mostly on a slight slope, and you pitch where you like- using common sense to leave the hook-up points free if you don't need one. The toilets and free showers are modern and well kept (though it was quiet and dry weather when I went). There are no other facilities, but that's what most of us like.
The only negative I could see was that the access drive (by the pub) is rather narrow and I could imagine that getting a large van or motorhome in would test you a bit. I went to the area to do the Coast Path, for which it is ideal. The village itself has just the 2 pubs and a nice old church. Seaton is half a mile down the road (footpath all the way) and has a supermarket and food places, but a bit of planning blight as Tesco is apparently to take over as usual.
Sidmouth and Lyme Regis are charming old towns but with the usual rip-off parking. The scenery off the beaten track is a bit like the alps but without the big mountains.

We have just returned from a wonderful weekend at Axemouth. We camped at Axemouth Campsite on the May Day bank holiday weekend with one family tent and one camper van. We couldn't book in advance so arrived on Friday afternoon ( Royal wedding day ) and were greeted by a very helpful man - I think his name was 'Eddie'. He told us we could pitch wherever we liked which was a welcome change from the structured campsites that seem to be popping up everywhere. The toilet facilities were spotless and cleaned twice a day, there was a little shop that was opened by the owner each morning where you could buy bread rolls, milk, eggs etc very cheaply and the pitch rates were very reasonable.
The village of Axemouth has 2 lovely pubs but no shops at all so we went to Seaton for our supplies. That was a 5 min bike ride or a 20 min walk away and had everything you needed.
We were so impressed by the helpfulness of 'Eddie' and the campsite owners who bought us newspapers on request and had every bit of local information that you could possibly need. We felt very looked after.
We will definitely return to this campsite as the customer service and cleanliness was second to none and that is not something you can say very often !

I thought this was a fantastic little campsite.
I have never met such friendly owners who went out of their way to make us feel welcome.
For 2 adults, 2 teenage kids and a big dog in a VW camper van we only paid £14 per night (in AUGUST!) It's £16 with hook up. They charge per unit not per head. They do allow dogs on a lead :)
The caravan part where we were was crowded but not overly so and there was plenty of room in the tent only field even in school hols.
We were going to tour along to Exmouth but the other two campsites, one was a farm and the other was a camping park (so no amazing facilities or anything) wanted to charge us £24 and £21 respectively. I expressed disgust to both and promptly returned to this lovely campsite.
It's right on the river with fantastic views and was so totally peaceful, it was dead quiet by 10pm and at 11pm at the weekend.
The little shop (open 9am til 10.30am) is handy if you have forgotten something overnight and there are easy walking distance shops at Seaton.
The toilets were cleaned twice a day and people didn't realise all they had to do was press the flush button for a bit longer to flush the toilet adequately.
Free hot showers and hot water in the wash up area make this a really great place to stay.
Easy travelling distance to Lyme Regis, Seaton, The Donkey Sanctuary, Beer and Sidmouth so plenty to do. Also a pub right next to the campsite.
Will definitely return. 10/10 from me!

Nice little site, bernie and wife very friendly and helpful. Toilet blocks both clean. The harbour inn nice ale but far too over priced. Food very expensive. The ship inn better choice of food beer good and good prices highly recommend. 5*+. Bus services are very good into seaton and back. I am an animal lover but was concerned about visitors to the site with dogs mostly let their dogs fowl when dark thinking nobody would notice.
There were great views all round and an ideal spot for ramblers to stay. I had to go into Seaton every morning to co-op for papers but was told that shop opens daily once children were of off school. This was not a problem though. Very picturesque little village to stroll round and a beautiful church which has a lot of history. I enjoyed my stay very much and would not hesitate to stay again.
Next time I would definitely take a fishing rod as there is direct access to river axe. I had no problems with electric hook up (no tripping out). Hot water in the showers was HOT every time, with no cooling when other taps around site were being used. Would stay again pre-school holidays as was told that scouts guides etc stay in adjoining field during summer holidays which would make axe farm a busy place.

We stayed at this site on the rally field, the site was absolutely water logged & the whole site was soon just mud,
We really struggled to get the car on & off the site each day
The toilets & showers were right near the entrance & long way from the field but they were clean & well looked after
The site itself appeared to be very overcrowded & all the vans seemed to jammed close together with very little room for tents
There is not much near by to do
The nearest beach was Seaton that was pebbles
