Finchale Abbey camp site is well maintained with clean and warm shower blocks, the site has a shop and cafe with a picnic area,

The reception area had good local information available on things to do.

There is a well kept priory ruin by the side of the river where a bridge leads to pleasant woodland walks.

There is a nice pub and super markets within a 10 min drive, I would highly recommend this camp site when exploring Durham and the surrounding area.

The park is dog friendly and has a good dog walking area

Just came back from spending another great bank holiday here. This is the first visit since both toilet blocks have been up graded and what a fantastic job they are great a real credit to the owners. We love this site even though we only live a few miles away. And the £20. 00 a night is real value for money, we are hoping to go back in a couple of weeks. The staff are friendly. There are lovely walks along the river and the woods. There is a retail park which is about 5 minutes drive away which as a sainsburys, marks and spencers and lots of other shops. There is a pub also that serves meals, it does specials like 2 for 1 offers. The lovely Durham city is only 10 minutes away

Only live 20 minutes away never knew that this site was on my door step easy to get to don't let the approach to the site put you off you must remember many years ago the monks would of walked down the same road. This site must be visited to appreciate the views on the approach and when you get down into the site it opens up to a stunning view of the Abbey and the well maintained grounds. There are loads of wildlife such as peacocks, ginnyfowl, doves squirrels and many other varieties. The staff on site have a superb knowledge of the abbey and the surounding area other uses of the site where very friendly. I also have two dogs and the walks along side the river are so peaceful and there is somewhere on the site to take them for a strole if you don't fancy down by the river. The toilet block and showers are well maintained clean and big enough to get in and get dried without any problem. The nearest shops are five minutes away Durham city centre is a must if you haven't been before as it all ties in with the camp site. I'll be going again in three weeks time at the end of the month yipee

Visited over the Easter break. Well laid out site with first rate facilities - brand new for 2012. Shower cubicles are huge with plenty of room to dry and dress. Cleaned regularly. Indoor pot washing - only one sink, but it seems perfectly adequate. Land is slightly sloping, but hard standings provide a level surface and there is plenty of space between the pitches. There are lots of lovely walks available from the site, along the riverbank and through the woods - not to mention the fabulous -picnic area and Finchale Abbey (entrance free). The owners are very helpful and more than willing to go the extra mile to make sure you have a fabulous holiday - my thanks for the miles you went on my behalf thanks to the post (or lack of it!). A word of warning - don't be put off by the approach to the campsite - the WOW factor kicks in as soon as you park to book in!

A nice adults only site in a good location. Near the river for anyone that likes fishing or canoeing and only a few miles from Durham.

We did find that it was expensive considering there is no clubhouse or pub nearby.

The shower blocks were first class, and the abbey ruins can be visited free.

Although it is a site for adults, there are lodges behind the caravan park, and the children from them have access to the site.

If you intend going during the summer this year, stock up with your favourite tipple, as it's a long walk to the nearest pub or shop.

Delightful location - well signposted. Easy to book day before arrival. Able to pick pitch which was level and great views of abbey ruins. Lovely walks by River Wear.

Gents facilities superb - ladies ok'ish.

Some through traffic to lodges at top of site - perhaps speed should be 5 MPH and more speed humps. For adult only some evidence of little people - maybe visiting lodges? Fortunately well behaved and not on bikes.

Some traffic noise from far side of river but this was drowned out by sound of free range peacocks and guinea fowl.

Lovely immaculately maintained site in a stunning location. Adult only, (though visiting children are allowed so don't expect total absence of the little darlings. )

Ruined Priory on site with free admission. (Visit early in the morning before day visitors arrive and you will have it to yourselves).

Very friendly and helpful owners.

We were on a super site which was enormous, lovely not to have water carriers to fill or waste water to empty.

Lovely walks from the site and once other day visitors leave the riverside incredibly quiet.

Very peaceful and quiet, lovely location, all you need is good weather. The site is half tourers and half residential. The touring side is kept very good, clean and tidy, toilets and showers are excellent and very well kept.

The lady owner is very pleasant. There is not much in the way of fresh water fishing in the area although river on site. Supermarket and retail park only 5 mins drive away. Plenty of wild life in and around the site.

The barrier to go in and out of the site needs to be moved or automatic as there is a sleeping policeman of which causes a problem when you want to leave with the caravan on as its a very steep hill, not good for a car and caravan.

Overall site very nice, would we go back probably not as it is 295 miles from home and chose it due to visiting friends near by.

A very peaceful site in a lovely location, yet close to the facilities in Durham.

Despite visiting over the bank holiday weekend the site was busy but remained quiet.

The site owners were helpful in providing information about the history of the Abbey as well as organising a coach to Sunderland for those going to the Take That concert!

The site was clean and tidy with toilet block providing very good facilities.

Certainly worth a visit.

This was our first visit to the North East with a touring caravan and will certainly return to this Adults Only site.

First time at this site and we thoroughly enjoyed out time there.

Adult only site.

Peace is in abundance until the hens or the peacock let 'rip', but that was just a laugh.

Off into Durham, had not been there for years. Plenty of good walks, woods and the river to follow, fishing on site. The Abbey is also on site hence the name.

Clean toilets and showers, very friendly staff, go back? you bet we will.

We even came away with a gift of six fresh eggs courtesy of the owners, wow beautiful yolks.
