Fantastic peaceful campsite away from the hub bub and well off the beaten track (but very accessible)away from the busy roads.
The facilities were warm and well kept and immaculately clean.
The whole site was clean and well presented. Our pitch was at the top end of the site with water electric and drainage and although a bit of a steep incline to get parked up we had fantastic views across the site.
All of the staff were friendly and helpful and when we couldn't get a taxi due to the inclement weather they offered for a member of staff to drop us in Durham Centre!
This was our first visit here and won't be our last overall very enjoyable

This is a pleasant site in a pretty valley near the river. The toilet blocks are warm and well equipped. The only problem is that if you choose to have your shower in the evening the lights go out while you're in the shower and you have to stop out of the cubicle and wave your arms about or shower in darkness. We were very disappointed with our 'pitch' which was really a parking place alongside the access road with a tiny bit of grass beside us. It was small because a caravan pitch was very close and the front windows of the caravan were facing directly into our windows so it wasn't conducive to sitting outside on the small grass area next to our door. I really felt like we were in a carpark. I could see the reason for this - the proper pitches are not big enough for large motorhomes.
The walk into Durham is about 4 miles so be prepared for a long walk if you decide to go there and back on foot but once we were in the city it was worth it. Beautiful cathedral and interesting shops.
Pleasant enough but definitely not our favourite. We were hoping for space to put out our awning and relax.

Just had 4 nights on this site. Although situated close to Durham and some busy roads, once you drop into the valley where the site is you feel as if you are miles from anywhere. The only noise is the river, birdsong and the wonderful guinea fowl, who wander about the site.
The staff are very friendly and helpful and the toilets are clean and heated. There is good walking from the site along the banks of the river and there are plenty of places to visit within easy distance. The railway museum at Shildon is free and really worth visiting, but Durham, Beamish museum are all fairly close by.
We will definitely stay here again and would recommend it.

Lovely site, in a very quiet location. Owners very friendly and helpful. If we have any complaint the ordinary pitches are very narrow and we found by the end of our 5 night stay it was getting very muddy near the door entrance to our caravan. Be very careful in the showers as the water is very very hot and can't be turned down. We will visit the site again in the future I am sure.

When we arrived we were greeted by ann who showed us which spaces were available. The toilets and showers were of a high standard. The river wear running by down a bank and with the rainfall was really rushing along there is a bridge to cross and a walk amongst a wood. Back along the river and up to the picnic area which would be nice in better weather (this was on the day when high winds were there)
We took the walk into durham and that was very pleasant meeting other people and having a quick chat so it may have took us longer.
We hope to return to this site when the weather is a bit better and explore more as this time we went for the Durham Christmas festival.

Beautiful and interesting surroundings, nice flat pitch, very clean toilets/showers - couldn't ask for more. Was easy to book and we received a warm welcome and some friendly information.
We fancied a night out and got a taxi to and from Durham, fab night had.
Would happily recommend this site.

Really nice campsite adjacent to the abbey. A lot of the site is made up of lodges but these are quite separate. Very good facilities - clean and modern. Nice river side walk which takes you into Durham City. Peaceful setting. Motorhome service point.

It's difficult to add anything more than previously said about this site. We got there by chance on a busy Saturday night by phoning through to the site and spoke to the owner Ann who kindly arranged a pitch and also to get the site warden to expect us.
It's become one of our favourite sites, we planned to stay for 3 nights and ended up staying 8 nights.
We then took the opportunity to walk and cycle into Durham using the path that starts between the two prisons. Pub wise going towards Durham there is the Marstons about 2 miles away. We also walked across the river to the nearest village and had a good Sunday lunch at very much the local.

We were a party of 14 Lads and Dads travelling from Northern Ireland to visit the stadium of Light for Sunderland v Spurs.
On arrival the welcome was friendly, kind and pleasant we were made to fell welcome. We were given the opportunity to select where we wanted to pitch the tents. The layout of the site was explained well and we were give instruction on one sheet of paper which I consider excellent. I normally caravan and an a member of the Caravan Club. This site is a taste of heaven. The Abbey is beautiful and awesome with the site quiet and peaceful.
I hate after paying a fee having to buy shower tokens glad this site is a FREE SHOWER. I also hate site owners putting the price up on a special event. This was the weekend of the The Great North Run and all the other sites in the area demanded that you paid for a minimum of two night. Once again not this site no attempt to use a local event to boost profits. So it was value for money.
You have to visit this place to experience the River Weir at its best in the picturesque setting of the abbey.
Lovely place, lovely people we will return with caravan and tents if permitted worth ringing and requesting to pitch a tent. Thank you folks. Sure & Steadfast.

Just had a fabulous weekend here. Lovely site with beautiful views, we had a pitch backing on to the abbey, was slightly sloping but hey, chocks at the ready and it was fine. Loved the walks in the woods and surrounding areas.
The owners were lovely and helpful, and the toilet/shower block was immaculate
Loved watching the peacock and guinea fowl walking about which added to the lovely area.
Looking forward to returning in November
