We had a great week here. Having camped at various places across the south of UK this was our favourite week yet. The campsite was perfect for us - me, my daughter and our dog.
Pitches are marked out and very sizeable so we never went out fearing we would come back to neighbours too close. Being a smallish site of 75 pitches it was lovely and peaceful even in August.
Facilities kept very clean and I never had to wait for a shower despite other review comments but then enjoying relaxing mornings I never headed over until between 9-10 so maybe I missed “rush hour”!
Brilliant place to base yourself to the tour the island - it is the more peaceful end of the island so nice to return to each evening. Wardens were lovely and helpful and welcoming so I’m surprised at the one particularly negative feedback below.
So much to see and do - simply a lovely week. This site has now become our new “benchmark” for booking others.

Been to this site several times doing the Needles run race. Love the whole island but this ends the best for quiet and walks.
The campsite is great for walks and cycling. Bus stop outside, great pubs nearby and shops and Fish and chips in Freshwater which is walking distance.
Lovely relaxed site and friendly

Grass pitch with electric. Grass was well looked after by the warden and his helper. The pitch was large so plenty of room for our motorhome, and car.
Showers were small with only hooks on the door. Plenty hot water though and very clean.
There is 2 washing machines and a dryer. As the weather was hot, we only used the washing machine. Separate washing up area for those that needed to use it
It was IoW festival whilst we were there which we only found out about once on the island. As we stayed in Freshwater, it didn't concern us, we kept away from Newport until it was over and when we went to Ryde, we took a different route which helped us see more of the island. On site there is an info hut. The warden sells ice cream which was a nice touch.
Locally, there is a large Co-op as well as other shops in Freshwater.
Great place to stay whilst visiting the Isle of Wight. I'd recommend staying here

We arrived just as the wardens were going out, 'Jones' they asked us cheerfully, 'no' we replied. Total personality change! Well we haven't got anyone else booked on they told my husband with a tut! Just park there as it's only for one night and pointed to a pitch at the back of reception.
It wasn't until we plugged the electric in that we saw the sign for no dogs, oops, we had a dog with us. We couldn't do anything as the wardens had left.
As soon as they returned I went to see them to explain that I had tried to book a pitch and was told we didn't have to book as it was only one night, I showed her our email exchange where I told them we had a dog! The lady said you don't have to book if you're just a turn up??? Exasperated much!
Well you might as well stay there now she said, it's £3. 00 For a dog! I went looking for the doggy field and got told off twice for walking in a no dog designated area, How do I get to the dog field then I asked? You should be staying in the field next to it!
By now I had a headache! The location was is residential area, 10 minute walk to town, a chippy, Chinese, Indian and a pub. Also a nice walk to the fort, leaflets available in reception. Only 3 showers for the whole site and it was very quiet when we were There, stiĺl had to wait 20 minutes though.
The showers are small and you have no control on the temperature. The site is very neat and well kept and I imagine if you're in the right place at the right time it will be very pleasant.
Make sure they know you're coming, if they tell you there is no need to book for one night, ring and confirm it!

Lovely, well maintained site with friendly and helpful wardens. The site is particularly ideal for motorhomers as it is an easy walk into the town for pubs and supplies.
Also a nice easy 20minute walk to the beautiful coast and Colwell Bay. Dogs welcome and a good sized dog walk / field on site if needed. Easy recommendation.

The site was run by two very friendly and helpful wardens, who couldn't do more to make your stay enjoyable. The site was quiet and there were quite a few empty pitches despite it being the bank holiday weekend.
The showers and toilets were clean but I agree with other reviewers that the temperature and pressure of the showers was poor. There were also far too few facilities for the number of pitches - given that there were also two non electric fields too - a total of 5 women's toilets and 3 showers is just not enough.
The campsite is sited in a residential area which is nondescript and a bit soulless but we found good walks nearby. It is true this side of the island has less attractions but that did not bother us.
The dog walk area was fine. We probably won't return, not because there was anything wrong with the site - just it wasn't particularly memorable. The cost of ferry travel means there has to be a real draw to a site sadly.

Firstly what a lovely couple Brian and Annie the wardens are and what lovely cakes Annie bakes. They are in the reception for you to buy. We had carrot cake. Scrumptious😀
The campsite is lovely, peaceful and the facilities are kept spotless. There is a laundry room, plenty of washing up sinks, lots of information regarding the area.
We walked, cycled and caught the bus. We walked to Yarnmouth just over 2 miles which is a lovely place to visit. Alum bay and the Needles well worth a visit and a must to go on the cable cars down to the bay. We caught the bus from Yarnmouth to Alum bay but again you can walk. There are plenty of places to ride bikes along cycle ways if you don't like roads.
We had a fabulous time at this campsite and would definitely return.
My only criticism is they charge £3 a night for a premier view pitch which to be honest in my opinion is really not what you could call a premier view. All in all lovely campsite. 😊

A warm welcome was received by the 2 wardens. We were shown our plot to pitch the tent.
I paid for the wifi (£5. 00) after asking if we would receive it on plot16 as the information leaflet did say you may not receive it everywhere. The warden advised myself that we would. When we tried to log on we could not get it. I advised reception that not a big problem as would update when I went to use the shower blocks but that they should let anyone else who use pitch 16 to be aware of the problem.
The shower blocks were kept really clean and tidy, the downside to the showers were that they were small and never seemed to reach a hot temperature.
Electric hook ups were good.
The play area was great with a basketball hoop and 2 football goals. There was also 2 barbecue areas here you could use. There was bricks you could use to do your own disposable bbqs in your pitch.
The only problem that occurred was you could only change your ice packs between 930 and 1000. This meant that we had milk go off. It also meant we couldn't leave early to get anywhere with the children.
If you have children and it's wet I highly recommend the swimming pool at Wight leisure centre 5 minutes down the road in Freshwater. A great place for fish and chips is also in Freshwater, you must go here.
Overall the site is good but there are a lot of rules.

Myself and a friend were in 2 small tents and on bikes cycling around the island for a few days. I'd researched this site before arriving and it had good reviews but I was a little apprehensive about it before arrival as it mentioned that it had a nice place to walk dogs.
This gave me the impression that it would attract lots of dog owners with their dogs and therefore spoil our stay. On the contrary, the place was dog free and we saw no 'mines' at all the whole time we were there.
The grass was like a snooker table and the shower and toilet block couldn't be faulted apart from no plug to charge my phone (but the lady at reception did it for a £1 'donation' to a local charity).
The site was quiet, clean, well facilitated and we both enjoyed our stay there. We have no hesitation in recommending it.
I would say, however, that the 'backpacker' rate is a little high.

Great site, cleanest facilities we've ever used
Friendly management
Grass site kept immaculate
Quiet
We were there in low season so minimum occupancy on site, there are only 3 showers for ladies
Criticism would be the lack of power in the shower and a small cubicle. 1 Free hairdryer.
Loved the walks from the site, nice long walk to coast however you did need to go down the main road to get to coastal route.
Beaches are lovely for a walk and beautiful scenic views, probably not advisable for families with young children and buggies etc.
Freshwater town is walkable although we biked, it was about 10mins away on our bikes.
This end of the island us very tranquil, quiet and peaceful probably not for you if you like traditional seaside places.
My highlight was the Jay bird sitting on the fence next to our campervan !
