Our first visit to this site and we were very impressed. Good access off the main road with large serviced pitches on this spacious, well laid out site. Nice touches included availability of picnic tables and benches and individual pitch lights. As previous reviews have stated the washrooms are spotless with individual bathrooms equipped with a shower, toilet, handbasin and a large mirror. Best I have seen at any campsite!
We stayed on site for 5 nights between xmas and New Year and the site was full but it was quiet with a friendly atmosphere. Dog walks were excellent and the child friendly facilities looked good too, even though we didn't require them.
The site is ideally placed for visiting Cornwall with many facilities open all year such as the Eden Project at St Austell and Maritime Museum at Falmouth. Also fantastic walks, either from the site, or a short drive away, especially the Roseland Peninsula accessed via the King Harry Ferry.
Overall this gem of a site will definitely be on our favourites list from now on and a must during the Winter months when good sites in Cornwall are so hard to find.

Fantastic site, spotless showers, toilets and it's even got a room with a corner bath in. Very quier site and there's a bus stop just outside to Falmouth for great beaches and Truro for top shopping and a great pub within walking distance. Staff unbelievable helpful, a credit to Simon

There is nothing to say about this site other that EXCELLENT In every way, from the very attractive entrance, general layout, maintenance, luxurious showers and toilets and very helpful wardens it cannot be bettered. Very easy access from main road and ideally situated for touring the entire county. In one day we went from the worst site we have ever seen to the best, in the same area. It is not on the cheap side and It may appear expensive, £24 pn for a basic pitch (including electricity and dog) in late September but you gets what you pays for. Menallack Farm in the area was £19. 50 pn, no comparison. Highly recommended without hesitation.

Having just got married we decided to visit Devon and Cornwall for our honeymoon and I have to say that both when I booked this site and then arrived, we were seriously impressed.
Upon arrival we were greeted with a wedding card and a bottle of prosecco, which I thought was amazing and would like to officially thank you for that.
The pitch size was huge and the site in general was extremely well kept and maintained. The shower units etc were impeccably clean and well stocked.
I cannot tell you how brilliant the site is and how helpful the owners and staff are. Hats off to you.
The only downside is that Devon & Cornwall are not place for large motor-homes like ours and we had to hire a car to really appreciate the fantastic places around.
The other downside is that the pubs around are excellent, however its not advisable to walk as the roads are narrow and the traffic is busy.
So just another thank you for such a fabulous stay.

To be perfectly honest this is not the type of site that we would normally stay on. However we were here to meet up with friends and celebrate a 65th birthday. They are caravaners and love Caravan Club type sites. To be fair there were plenty of grass pitches for tents/trailer tents etc. But the vast majority were hard standings for caravans and motor homes. Many of the caravans appeared to be seasonal bookings left on site all season.
The site is large and superbly laid out with good signage, great trees and planting of ground cover. The hardstandings are immaculate and the whole site is maintained to an extremely high standard. There are several first class amenities blocks, heated clean and everything that one could wish for. The spacious showers, complete with a wash basin and hair dryer and seat were the best we have encountered in many years of camping. Nice play area for children as well as a half size football pitch complete with goals. Several excellent dog walks within the site and a 7 acre field that one could exercise the dog on. The Carnon Down Inn is just across the road doing food as well as a Table Table attached to the Premier Inn next door. We paid £22 per night for a pitch with 2 adults and a dog, no EHU. A first class and excellently run site Great Value.

What a lovely site. The wardens are very welcoming and helpful.
The site is very well maintained and the facilities blocks are stunning with individual shower/basin/WC units or WC with washbasin, all kept immaculately clean.
It was very quiet at the time of our stay, with many obvious seasonal pitches which were not being used. A children's play area and even a small football pitch hint at a livelier high season.
The dog walk is excellent with a woodland walk around the site and the location is excellent for exploring most of Cornwall.
All in all a site which deserves its excellent reputation

Excellent site that was being geared up for Easter during our stay. Despite its size, it is meticulously maintained with very friendly staff. Planned to stay for 2 nights but stopped for 4 nights. New shower/toilet blocks are excellent with private rooms. Pitches large and level. Bus stop right outside the entrance and it was easy to get to and park at the Truro Park and Ride. Only slight downside is that the site is right next to a busy main road so the traffic noise is always there. Will visit again.

The visit to Carnon Downs this year was our second. We had visited at the same time of year last year.
The facilities are excellent. The 2 'bathroom' blocks have complete shower rooms which are kept very clean. The roadways are easy to negotiate. The site is situated in an area with plenty of easy access to both North and South Cornwall. Try Carnon Downs garden Centre for coffee or lunch. The management recommended a couple of pubs that were good got food. We tried one of them and they were right. The only down sides to this site is that they accommodate so many visitors who store their vans there and book from one year to the next. This leaves very little room for true tourers. We booked in January and when we got there could only be offered a very muddy grass pitch for 2 weeks.
Sorry this was just a little moan. Carnon Downs really is a super site.

Our first visit, what a lovey site, well laid out great play area for children a football pitch and a good dog walk. These are at the far side of site so if you do not have dogs and children there is a quite side too. Several really great toilet blocks some with bathrooms privacy cubicles, laundry and wash up sinks. The pitches are grass or hard standing with EHU, water points are well spaced. Reception has odds and ends and newspapers and the staff are friendly and helpful. There is a wonderful van calls that sells delicious food I loved my chilli wrap, also fish and chip van. Over the road is a Premier Inn with a pub attached that was always busy with people eating, down the road is a Spa, Gift Shop and Post Office. The bus stop is out side the gate to Truro. Cannot find anything to fault the site may be the busy road to cross. Will definitely be back wen in the area.

We have stayed at Carnon Downs several times during the last year to visit my daughter at Penryn Uni. The site is very easy to get to, no travelling down miles of narrow lanes, its next to the main road from Truro (3. 5 miles) and Falmouth (7. 5 miles). There is a bit of noise from this road but its not excessive and never spoilt our stays on the site. It has the benefit of opening all year which many in Cornwall do not.
The staff at reception were always pleasant and efficient and if the pitch was empty, earlier arrival was not a problem. In season a fish and chip van visits some evenings. After booking in we never visited reception so I'm not sure if they sell gas etc. No clubhouse or bar or swimming pool which I wouldn't be interested in anyway. If you are looking for a lively time, I should look elsewhere. If not, read on.
The pitches are a mixture of grass and hard standing though in the off seasons, the grass pitches aren't used. Most are separated by hedging. A gardener seems to be on site most of the time and he has made a lovely job. And he is quiet! All pitches are large and some of the grass pitches are enormous. This is a site where they haven't overdeveloped and there is a feeling of space. There are a number of serviced pitches and some seasonal pitches. All appear to have electric hookups. The seasonals are immaculate, unlike some other sites we have visited where they resemble a travellers camp. I would have jumped at the the chance of a seasonal pitch myself but alas. They are like gold dust.
We only stayed on what I assumed to be on the newer part of the site which is furthest away from the reception. Here there is a nice children's play area, a football pitch and at the end is a huge dog walking field.
The toilet block here is the best one I have ever used anywhere in the country. Large, modern, warm and clean. It has individual cubicles containing a shower, washbasin and toilet. I usually stay on Caravan Club sites and this beats any I have used.
To sum up, this site is a gem. Having stayed here in all seasons, I really couldn't come up with any criticisms.
It is a well run, pleasant place to spend some time. I can recommend it wholeheartedly.
