Our second visit here and my comments are are much the same as my review of July 2012 except the loo roll has improved. This is still a good site. But because the curtains in the shower blocks seem to have got shorter water gets everywhere so don't leave anything on the floor. Some of the guests didn't bother to mop up after themselves so we ended up cleaning water up before and after our showers. The private shower rooms are great though when you have a young family.
There are only two recommendations I would make for this site.
1. The shower curtains/saturated floors needs looking at.
2. Free Wifi is a must these days. As a family we use this a lot for checking the opening times, prices of attractions and tide times, blue flags for beaches. Carnon has no 3G and no Wifi.

Really nice place to stay. Very close to truro.
Excellent shower and washing facilities. Private rooms with shower, sink, toilet and radiator. It all looked quite new and cleaned very well.
10 out of 10. Very big pitches and all flat. They have not tried to cram it all in. No shop, clubhouse or wifi. A very fast road outside which was quite noisy at times and used quite a bit after midnight.
Went with a tent in June but have just bought a small caravan, so will going back with the caravan.
Open all year is a bonus. Yes, a very good place to stay. Highly recommended.

We were on this site during the torrential rain & flooding all over the country but we still loved it! Very good toilets/showers/dishwashing/laundry facilities in a warm, modern block. Very friendly & helpful staff & great for the dog, despite the very boggy conditions. Being 'seniors' we were able to use our bus passes to visit Truro & Falmouth. We enjoyed the real ale in the pub next to the Premier Inn & also used the Spar shop, both in easy walking distance. We'll be back!

Just had 4 nights at Carnon Downs and thoroughly enjoyed it, even though it never stopped raining for the whole 4 days, (not the fault of the site!) but we still got out and about. The site is very well laid out with enormous hard standing pitches (both long and wide enough). A nice touch is the picnic table at each pitch (even though we never used it owing to the weather but a nice touch even so) The site itself is very attractive with lots of flowering shrubbery - yes even in November but which must look a picture in the Summer months. The staff are extremely cheerful, welcoming and informative. The facilities blocks (some closed for the winter but still the open ones close enough not to have to walk very far)are fantastic and immaculately clean. News papers are sold on site. There is a great doggie walk on site. Lots of owls about at night and rabbits too.
Off site there are some really fantastic pubs not too distant, a Table Table being literally across the road. The Norway Inn at Perranaworthal, Old Quay Inn at Devoran and Pandora (what a fantastic location that is in!) at Mylor all do great food and have bags of character. We visited them all so speak from experience. Carnon Downs site is just so convenient for so much and a brilliant site. A real bonus is it is open all year, so ideal for a winter break. We will most definitely return!

The wardens were very helpful, holding a pitch for us whilst we organised help for an ageing relative prior to arrival. They were waiting for us on arrival until after 6pm, delayed due to water in diesel. Super site. Excellent toilet block(s) and pitches. Will certainly use it again!
The Carnon Inn. , opposite the site did a splendid rump steak dinner and a blue cheese burger. Surprisingly good. Do not be put off the pub being next to the Travelodge. I did not pack my extra long EHU cable so I had to carefully position our little caravan so that I could mount the sat dish on the tow hitch and still aim south east. Heard owls hunting rabbits at night. Convenient location. Highly recommend.

Stayed at this site for the first time from 27th Oct to 4th Nov and it certainly won't be the last time we stay here! Yes, it was quite expensive but you get what you pay for and I can honestly say this is the best site we have ever stayed on.
Had a fully serviced pitch so no water barrels to fill or waste to empty - just the loo to deal with so cutting time spent out in the almost incessant rain (and hail!) to a minimum.
The pitch (a hardstanding) was huge with loads of space between it and our neighbours. The site itself is very large and could probably accommodate twice the number of pitches than it does but happily, the owners have opted to give their clients breathing space rather than cramming them in in order to maximise their profits. The way the site is split into areas by the abundant Hydrangea hedging and raised flower beds serve to give it a feeling of intimacy and make it feel smaller than it actually is.
The loo block we used was just lovely - individual cubicles with toilet, basin and power shower and as much piping hot water as one could ever want. Very clean too. The site was very quiet when we were there so there was never a need to wait for a cubicle to become free but I do wonder if the facilities cope in the summer, especially if a bunch of teenagers take over 2 or 3 or more of the cubicles for over an hour as they are prone to do!
The site itself is well situated between Truro and Falmouth. There is a Spar shop in the village but we never used it, as Tesco in Truro is just 10 mins away. We didn't use the Premier Inn across the road either but we did go to the Old Quay Inn in Devoran (just down the road) and had a very nice meal there.
The only trick this site is missing is WiFi which is a pity as the 3G network doesn't extend here either so anybody with a smartphone will find internet access painfully slow but that is only a small criticism and doesn't stop me giving this site an overall 10 out of 10.

Stopped for 2 nights as part of our motorhome tour of Cornwall. Site easy to find off main road.
Quick check in at reception and we plumped for a fully serviced pitch in the 'red' field opposite reception. Our pitch was right next to the older toilet block.
Pitches very long, not the widest I've seen but perfectly ample. Some pitches with picnic benches. Site is large, but spaced out and planted well with shrubs & trees so every section appears smaller and more intimate so not daunting.
We were not affected with road noise at all, which surprised us given past reviews. But I would imagine those near the road would hear some traffic, especially during rush hours.
Site was very well kept, tidy and manicured. Considering it was almost October site was very busy, so would thoroughly recommend pre-booking.
The new bathrooms are amazing, real state of the art and like nothing we had ever seen before. We were pitched next to the older block which was clean and sufficient but nothing like the 2 other blocks in style. Showers themselves were hot, powerful with none of this pushbutton rubbish. Also with adjustable temperature and removable shower heads which for a shorter person like me was a real 'find'.
Dog walks - loads of woodland paths and also a 7 acre field.
Chip van called on the Saturday night - price reasonable and big portions.
We drove to the Spar down the road, parking was difficult for a motorhome and we didn't think the choice or price was that great (expensive) so I think you would be better off visiting one of the chain supermarkets in the area instead.
To sum up ~ great site, well looked after with high standards. If you like the standard of CC sites you will love it here. Expect some road noise, so be careful where you pitch. Open all year and within easy reach of most of Cornwall's attractions. Only thing missing is wi-fi, you would expect a site of this calibre to have wi-fi so have knocked a point off! We will return.

We have been going to this campsite for about 10 years now and we have always found the standards to be excellent.
The toilet and shower blocks are cleaned on a regular basis, pitches are well serviced and spacious with electric hook up. There is a lovely sand play area for children and football pitch for a kick around. We have never been disappointed.
The staff and management are friendly and helpful but this year they excelled themselves. Due to bad weather our tent was washed out and they were really helpful with us trying to find temporary accommodation whilst it dried out.
We will continue to go back to this site as we know we will get a good standard of facilities and service

We stayed here for a week in July just as the good weather did. This is a well kept site with spacious pitches. We had a huge fully serviced pitch which was perfect for our twin axle van and 3. 5m deep awning.
The hard standing was very hard bending 5 of my rock pegs! there are a mixture of pitch types some very close to the busy main road not an issue for us being sited away from the road but could be annoying for tenter's with less sound proofing.
The facilities block has some of the best and worst features I've seen on a site.
Good was:
Hot Showers without silly push buttons hooray!
Private unisex bathrooms enabled us to shower as a family.
Not so good:
Shower had curtain that did the irritating old stick to you trick as the expelair sucked the steam out. The shower tray design seemed to have induced a collection of previous occupants hair on several occasions. I think this was more poor shower design than un clean, a wet room style with glass screen would have been more in keeping with the 5 star badge as would a quality loo roll.
Hand driers were weak, and seemed in an odd location.
No Shop on site.
Those minor gripes aside this is a good site in a good location with easy access for large units. I would stay here again as you can access most of Cornwalls attractions from here within an hour.

We went to Carnon Downs Site by default 3 years ago as the Looe site was being refurbished. We have been back each year since and have booked again for next year. It is a fantastic site, clean, tidy and extremely well maintained.
The toilet blocks are the best we have seen and kept to perfection. The staff are friendly and so polite and will help in any way they can.
This year our gas fire in the m/h let us down and they even had a Caravan Repair man who visits the site and he repaired our gas fire so we could continue our holiday with warmth! We have not eaten out locally nor visited any pubs.
We are content to go out during the day and be on site during the evening. Fish & Chips visit the site twice weekly. No Clubhouse suits us fine - just a great relaxing holiday without rules and regulations ! No wonder we and many others book from one year to the next!
