Excellent site everyone was really helpful we were showed where to pitch and had a quick run through of the site. Pitch size was great we were pitched right next door to the play area which was a bonus as two playful children were never out of sight although would b a problem for couples as kids are noisy. Toilets and showers were immaculate all the time even when it rained no mud or grass dragged in very impressed. This is a brilliant site for anybody we will definitely returning here.

Just returned from a last minute booking at Upper Carr in Pickering. We normally camp with the tent but due tot he bad weather booked a pod. W have never used this site or a pod before. The site is very friendly and the toilet and showers were the cleanest I have seen on any site. The pod was fab, very clean and very warm. The Black Bull pub at the end of the lane was excellent value for food and was ry friendly. The Would recommend both.

Don't use this site in wet weather! We had 2 nights of heavy rain and the whole site quickly turned into a mud bath, some of the hard standing pitches flooded as well. We could not leave the van unless wearing wellies and it was too flooded to put up our awning.
On a positive note this site would have been lovely had the weather been better. The toilets and showers were clean. The location is good although its a fair walk into Pickering. The on site cafe looked lovely but unfortunately had only limited weekend opening hours in October.

Stayed here on holiday my first visit to the area, perfect location, the park was ideal very user friendly, staff were great, park clean & tidy. The showers in particular were beautifully kept clean and presentable ample capacity. The on site Tea Room had a good variety menu and very reasonably priced. Overall good value for money and would definitely re-visit. Especially, once the New Development has taken place, as I understand from the office this is due to take place over Winter and you won't have so far to walk to the Toilet/Shower facilities.

What a disappoint this campsite was. We were on the second field and toilet and showers were at the far side of the main field. That was also the only place to empty waste. Also on the field there were only two taps, luckily not many on so we were able to park near to a tap. Electric is only 10 amps (advertised as 16 amp on their website) Showers and toilets were very cramped and not enough for size of site. It was also expensive (for September)and the facilities provided. One plus point was the bus was just a few minutes walk and a few minutes into Pickering. Glad we had only booked for two nights.
Another downfall is there is no security barrier onto this 2nd field.

A bit disappointed with this site we were in the second field, but the nearest toilet / shower / chem toilet / waste water were all in the next field, a long walk with a cassette loo to carry, it would have been easier if there had even been a chem empty point in same field as us. also no drain under water tap. I felt sorry for poor tenters parked near it as water just seeped under their tent.
Went to cafe at 9am thurs to get breakfast before leaving for filey but were told it would not open till 10am as they had to travel from york. must say the toilets/showers were very clean but a bit small.
Not far from pickering / dalby forest/ york / whitby and Scarborough which were lovely. think I would try site across the road. the caravans parked behind us had all electric cables from six vans running past their front door, a bit dangerous?

We were 3 mums travelling together with our 4 children aged 8-11 years and wanted a family friendly site with good facilities and so we chose Upper Carr.
I spoke to a very helpful lady called Lynn who said she would pitch us all together on EHU pitches.
On arrival we received a warm welcome and were directed to our pitches which, as promised, were all next to each other and directly adjacent to the small play area and very close to the toilet and shower block.
The children all ran off to explore whilst the mums got the tents sorted. We found the pitches to be spacious and we all had more than enough room for our tents (2 Vango Icarus 500's and a Khyam Nevada)
The toilet block was clean and warm.
What we hadn't been told was that the showers cost 20p. Having found some change, I can confirm that the showers were hot and lasted about 8 minutes - more than enough time for a good wash. You do have to keep pushing the button every 30 seconds or so which is a bit of a pain when you've got shampoo dripping in your eyes!
There is no way of regulating the temperature and personally I found the showers a bit too hot and would wonder if this could be a problem for very young children.
Even though the site was quite busy, the washblock was never too busy and I only had to wait 2 minutes for a shower to become free.
There is also a disabled/family wash room with shower, toilet, wash basin and baby changing table.
There is a small laundry on site with washing machine and tumble drier and there is also a small freezer so that freezer blocks can be re-frozen for free.
Behind the washblock is a veg prep/washing up area which has 4 sinks and plenty of hot water.
There is a children's games/arcade room near reception which was a HUGE hit with our children and they spent a lot of time there playing pool and arcade games (each cost 50p) and generally hanging out with the other children on site.
The play area with swings, slide and climbing frame was also well utilised by all the children on site.
The Reception doubles up as a small shop selling basic items, ice creams and sweets.
There is a lovely cafe on site and we were given a leaflet on arrival and a copy of the menu. The opening times were stated as being 9am-9pm.
We arrived at 6. 40pm on our first night to have our evening meal only to be told that food service stops at 6. 00pm and they close at 7. 00pm!
The young staff were apologetic and we had a drink and some cake before leaving.
I can confirm that the food (when we went back another day and before 6pm) was tasty and not too over priced.
There is plenty to do in the surrounding area and one big draw for the kids was a trip to Flamingoland. If you plan to visit, I would recommend buying tickets in advance as the queue to buy them at the gates was massive!
We all had a lovely stay and the staff we encountered were all very friendly, helpful and polite.
It is a site that we plan to return to in the future.

Just returned from a 4 night stay at upper carr. We arrived and checking in was very easy. We were given a map of the site and shown where we were to pitch.
Unfortunately and not really any fault of the site, due to recent rain the site was water logged. We made the most of where we were, but was worried about the car getting stuck. A word of warning, 4 pitches share an electric socket. 2 of these are about 20 meters away so you will need a long lead.
The toilets are a converted wood clad holiday lodge. These are clean but can get cramped when busy. Showers are 20p but you do get a lot of water, however I found I had to keep pressing the button for water every 10 seconds which was a pain when washing my hair. The toilets were warm though.
There are two fields and the toilets are only in one so if you are pitched in the other field it can be a fair walk to the toilets.
The play ground is also in the same field as the toilets. Ours kids liked the play ground. Most of the kids play there and they seemed to play well together.
There is a small shop, but to be honest I only saw it open once and did not use it.
The only problem we found was a lack of communication with the staff. I complained about the noise from other campers shouting and laughing at 00:30. This information was not passed to the warden so the same thing happened the following night. There does not seem to be a strict, or well advertised quiet policy so if you want a quiet site at night this might not be the site for you.
The site is well situated for touring north yorkshire.
Overall not a bad site, but will not be returning, there are plenty of other sites in this areas to try.

We had a 2 night stay, 5 adults.
Nice site, but needs a toilet block in the first field, also some road noise at night.
On a good point I offered to pay extra, to put up a small tent next to my large tent, was informed no extra cost was required.
The new Cafe was great, and we did not wait long for a full breakfast, but we did walk in just as it opened.
Main meal, s at the Black Bull are approx £10 per head but I think it was worth £8ph

Our recent stay at the Upper Carr Caravan site was a bit more involved than a regular camping weekend as our group tested the facilities in every way, with 30 cars, one camper van and 50 people, it certainly gave an opportunity to sample the different types of accommodation; we had static caravans, pods, a camper van, as well as 16 tent pitches.
Being a diehard camper for many years I naturally opted for one of the many static caravans on the site, myself and those sharing the six birth unit found it more than adequate for our needs and the small personal items inside gave it a homely feel, there were plenty of utensils, cutlery etc and the usual appliances, all functioning with no problems.
Our friends in the pods found them basic but functional, just like a wooden tent really.
Those using the tent pitches found a couple of places where the area hadn’t drained but considering the rain lately the whole site was well drained and very tidy, the only complaint was the trek to the toilets/showers but this didn’t bother me much being in a caravan (Don’t tell them that)
Having to organise food for our masses it was not possible to use the camp facilities, this was overcome by using the takeaway services of “Chico’s Pizzeria” and “Noyon Tandoori Restaurant” delivering meals for 50 people was not easy but all food was piping hot and very good.
For our Saturday morning breakfast our party went to the “Cross Butts Hotel” near Whitby, about half an hour’s drive from the site and well worth a visit for ANY meals.
Our final evening meal was provided by the “Black Bull” just opposite the site, again the food was very good and the service was excellent.
On the whole our weekend was a complete success with even the weather being kind, I thoroughly recommend Upper Carr Caravan Park and the surrounding area to anybody, be it either a couple on their own or a large group like ours.
