On arrival we were handed a map at reception and had to find our own way to our pitch, which as we arrived early was quite easy to do, other later arrivals found it difficult especially as the field we were in was a mixture of statics, pods, varying sizes of tents and quite large touring caravans.
It was a bank hols weekend so we expected it to be busy. EHU points were far and few between (we had to ask for an extension lead to get to ours across two thirds of the field).
As the site filled up there were leads criss-crossing the site. All in all considering the field we were in was next to a busy road the traffic didn't bother us too much.
The wardens were friendly, but more patrols would have been a good idea to 'help' people adhere to their rules and not let dogs run around offlead.
Our main bug bear was the shower block. We were amazed to be told that it had been refurbished for the 2011 season! The showers were too few, 3 in the ladies and same in the gents, which for this size of site was inadequate.
The showers are small, dark and push button type. Be prepared for it to dribble for about a third of the time you use it, a bit of a worry as they are timed and you pay 20p for the privilege.
Thought this charge made them look cheap as it cost us around £23 per night for two people, caravan and porch awning. Spoke to the owner as we left and he said he welcomed our feedback.
We will not be returning unless the showers are brought up to a standard people expect.

Lovely site, very clean, great location, the ablutions block was as good as I have seen on any campsite, I would no doubt stay here again next year.
The kids had a great time, plenty for them to do. The play area and animals were a great attraction and kept them busy for hours on end. A really sunning part of the world.
Security on the site was an added bonus and gave great peace of mind.
We headed into York for the day which was easily accessible, Pickering Town is well worth a family visit too.

Arrived on Friday afternoon for two nights and was directed to what seemed to be a short stay field off to the left as we entered the park and although very pleasant and well kept soon filled up with lots of tents with varied groups from families to all male campers. The traffic on the main road could be heard throughout the weekend but was not much of a distraction.
The toilet block, wash up area and waste disposal seemed miles away at the other end of the site and in our opinion could do with updating, but were clean most of the time. The showers/hairdriers were 50p on top of the £24 a night which we thought was a bit expensive for the facilities available.
We have two dogs which were very welcome and also enjoyed the walks down the lane just off the site. The Black Bull pub opposite is adequate for a meal and is dog friendly, but there is plenty of traffic noise if you sit in the garden.
This is a lovely part of the country and this is a great site for a 2 or 3 night break. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway in Pickering only a couple of miles away from the site.

We have just returned from a two night visit to this site, having chosen it for it's location and reviews and after considering their own website.
There was supposed to be entertainment on the Saturday night (confirmed on their website) and there was a mention of tractor rides in what I read but we saw no evidence of either at all during our stay, nor were we given any information about such things on arrival. Not the end of the world but it may have disappointed some visitors.
That said, it was a nice tidy site, facilities as described and the pub across the road was handy. Although as it obviously serves the campsite behind it as well, it was very busy and we had to wait an hour for our orders.
However, it is the school holidays and they were very busy. Our children (6 and 3) enjoyed the park and judging by the tears on our departure, had a fantastic time!

Recently spent 2 nights at Upper Carr. The facilities were good, the kids loved the play area and had a bit of space to play football and the pitches weren't too close together.
The toilet block could do with updating and the showers were ok but not free. A kids disco was advertised for the Saturday night but never saw any evidence of this! The owners were lovely and helpful.
The site was a bit noisy at night due to the Malton Road not far away. The pub across the road was nice.
Overall a good site for the price.

Nice campsite, very neat and tidy with good sized pitches. Friendly people on the site and the pub across the road was lovely. We only stayed for one night and I thought £23 was quite expensive and I was disappointed that the showers weren't free for that cost! However they didn't charge us for the dogs as it was such a short stay. Would consider going again but not for a long stay due to cost and hidden extra for the showers.

I picked this site partly because their website says 'we are a quiet secluded well maintained park' unfortunately if you look closly at map the park is situated next to the A169 Malton road which is noisy on the tent side of the park to say the least. Upon arrival I was given a map to direct me to my pitch which was level but very small. The price of £18 per night without electric hookup was hard enough to take but when I found the showers were 50p a time and there was only 3 of them for the whole site I was very disappointed.
On the plus side there is a smashing pub across the road serving good food the campsite is on the A169 and a good bus service runs to York and Leeds in one direction Pickering and Whitby in the other which is great as you can leave the car behind.

We spent 4 nights here in our 7. 5 metre Motorhome over Easter from Thursday to Monday with our friends who have a caravan pulled by a Mitsubishi 4 x 4.
We were aware that the new owners took over the site only a few months ago, but their readiness for the Easter bonanza, when the site was very fully booked, was not good.
The 'welcome' when we arrived at midday was far from professional for what is an expensive site, the entry/exit code was scrawled on a scrap of paper only after my request - even though the staff member made a comment that most people ask for it to be written down. The shop was only sparsely stocked with very few items available.
In previous weeks there had been some rain, but the grassed areas were extremely boggy when we arrived and small signs were positioned shortly after our arrival asking people not to drive on the grass. However this was impossible as quite a number of pitches were actually on the grass, so a quagmire situation began to develop as more and more deep ruts appeared due to spinning wheels. At least one caravan required assistance from another camper who had a 4 wheel drive vehicle to haul the van out of the boggy ground.
Our hardstanding shared a water and electricity point with the adjacent pitch which was nice, apart from the ground being so wet and boggy.
Our friends were two pitches away and had to park on the grass beside their van as there was no other option, so this area suffered severe damage as deep ruts were unavoidably gouged. Their water point was out of action so they had to come to ours for water.
The circular access road paved with limestone chippings was also muddy so the inside of our vans got quite dirty even with great care being exercised. This road needs more chippings or resurfacing.
The electricity then went off, with the initial blame being put on the external supply, but it soon became evident that the real problem was actually on the site itself as the owners issued notices asking campers to 'Use gas wherever possible' and restrict their usage to a maximum of 10 amps. There was no hint of an apology - or a small refund - or any other gesture as compensation for the inconvenience.
A generator was finally brought onto site which did help, but the supply was still unreliable and continued to fail periodically.
We do not use the site Toilet/Shower facilities, but we did hear comments and complaints from other campers about the poor quality of the facilities with one lady failing to manage to get a shower at all in spite of the 50 pence cost it required. She was offered a refund of the 50 pence at the reception - but what she really wanted was a shower!
Overall, I felt some sympathy for the new owners particularly regarding the soggy areas, but they should have been aware of the electricity situation and possibly not taken so many bookings for this first major holiday. Their overall readiness for the weekend and standard of communication was also not up to an acceptable standard, particularly as the price charged was at the top end of the scale. Possibly OK if all was in fine shape - but it wasn't. Good communication can overcome many problems, but poor communication merely adds to them.
With a good deal of TLC, more attention to detail and better customer communication this site could be a winner, but it isn't yet - time will tell.

Had one night on site. New owners had just taken over and were battling with problems in the facilities block and very soggy ground so we really didn't see it at its best.
We were directed to use the toilet and shower in a holiday chalet instead which would have been fine if only there was a door on it. Retreated to using our own shower and toilet once the owners had managed to arrange a water supply to a tap so we could fill up.
The site looked like normally it would be quite nice and I think once they get over initial teething problems it would be worth a visit. Some new static pitches were just being finished that looked nice and the pitch spacing was OK. The new owners were stressed but doing their best to be helpful, I think with experience they will make good hosts, they just need to be able to anticipate campers needs a little more (like water!)
Fingers crossed they are up to speed before the Easter rush. Any one booking in the next week would be advised to check if facilities are working.
About 20 min easy walk a long road into Pickering with footpath all the way but no street lighting so take a torch.
Kids play area looked good and our dogs were welcome (only £1 a night per dog which is cheap)

I visited this site at easter weekend and it was a total washout with the weather. Could do with hard standing for caravans, we had to be pulled out to go home on the monday.
Weather aside the owners had only just taken over and it was the first day of the season. The electric kept blowing but the owners got generators in so that was nice of them.
On easter sunday they did a easter egg hunt for the kids which was very good and very child friendly. The golf pleased my husband.
The toilets were in another area to the touring site so we had quite a walk through the residential site which would be ok in good weather. The showers were well kept and the toilets were clean plenty of hot water.
The camp site is in a very good location and I will not be put off by the weather and will be returning to this site again.
