Upper Carr at Easter marked our first trip out in 2009 and what a great location and trip it proved to be. The site was clean, nicely laid out and restful. The pitches were generously sized. The quality of the facilities were 'top drawer' stuff. From the very clean toilet and shower block, to the pot washing area to the well stocked and well priced shop. It was run by a very helpful and friendly couple. They even laid on an Easter Egg Hunt for the kids on Easter Sunday. There were a small number of power cuts, but in all fairness to the site, there were ample warnings around the site stating that the pitch supply was only 10 amps. They even listed a number a typical appliances and showed what current each item drew. Around the site and Pickering, there was lots to do and see and plenty of good walks to go on. Will we go back to Upper Carr ? Absolutely !

We have just returned from our first camping break, we decided to stick to an area we knew quite well, and we were very pleased with our choice. The site is very clean and well run, we arrived on Easter Saturday and quickly shown to our pitch. Once set up we had a look round, the toilet block was in the next field but only a short walk away it was clean and tidy. The site is well located with plenty to do in the surrounding area, we had days out in Whitby (via the north yorks steam railway!) robin hoods bay , and the moors. Hutton le Hole went down very well, with a 16 and a 12 year old in tow we struggle to find something to suit them both. Also Dalby Forest is great but take a picnic! We had booked for 3 nights but ended up staying an extra night, we would have stayed longer but work commitments stopped us! The pub across the road was handy although the food was a bit basic, nice places to eat in Pickering and Thornton le Dale though. The only problem we did have was that when the site was full at the weekend we kept having spells of around 3 hours without electricity we where told this was due to people overloading the circuit, we were only only allowed 10 amps per pitch and as it was a bit chilly during the night everyone must of had heaters and kettles on. This said I suppose as the weather warms up this shouldn't hopefully be an issue, I would definitely go back to Upper Carr Lane and recommend it.

We called in on the off-chance and were thoroughly delighted with the site and stayed 8 nights! The owners were very friendly and the whole site was immaculate - young Charles even mowed our pitch before we parked up. We had no problem with the showers and there weren't too far away even though we were in the open field. As has been said it's in an ideal location for touring Malton, Pickering and the NY Moors. Would higlhly recommend and will definitely stay here again when we venture north again.

We stayed here for 3 nights with 2 other families during half term and were able to pitch our three tents together on flat pitches. There is a good children's play area and the site is in a good location for visiting the surrounding areas. The toilets and showers were kept clean the only downside being that you had to pay 20p for a 4 minute shower and also keep pressing the button for the water to come out which made it very difficult to wash your hair or wash a small child with you (though the men didn't have a problem!). I think if the shower is on a timer then you shouldn't have to keep pressing a button as well. Overall this is a nice site and would recommend.

Stayed at this site for two nights half term in May. Site owners very helpful, particularly when helping us with gas for our stove! Facilities very clean. We were pitched in the field without the toilet block, but it was only a short 2 minute (if that!) walk away. Site very well kept.
Site is well positioned for various attractions in the area such as Flamingo Land, Eden Camp and Pickering.
Would definitely recommend this site and we will use again.

We have just got back from a night in their Pod - different but worth it. My wife loved the pod would use again.
Site clean and site owner helpful
Noisey road nearby
Shop has basics
Playground loved by my daughter.
Toilet block a long walk at night if you end up in the wrong field and not good to have to come out of shower to restart.

An excellent location for touring both coast and dales. The site itself is run by a lovely couple who are keen to help and also keep the place very tidy. Two downsides were the cost (£15.90 a night in low season was very steep, we thought), there is also alot of traffic noise from the Malton road from 4am onwards. Security barriers in and out. Toilet block was adequate and very clean but perhaps at quite a distance from some pitches. There was a good playpark for the kiddies and the nice addition of some furry/feathery animals in pens on site too. Dogs are welcomed and there is a quiet road at the side of the site(complete with dogpoop bin) to walk your pooches. We will be going again, mainly due to the convenient location. Would give it a 7 out of 10 (lost points due to cost).

We've just got back from a very nice weekend here, I would recommend the site to anyone
Although there are a couple of down points like paying for the showers after paying the site fee, it's not a cheap site.
Also they clean the toilets for an hour at a time so they are out of use, if you're desperate your pretty much stuffed. But all in all a very nice site, the wardens (who are new I'm told ) are lovely and will go out of theire way to help.
The play ground is very good and showers are nice and hot and a well stocked little shop too.

Excellent site very clean toilets a bit on the expensive side at 18.50 a night. Close to flamingo land and the market town of malton and Pickering. Also only a 45 minute scenic ride over the north Yorkshire moors to Whitby. The site has a good playground which the kids really enjoyed the black bull pub is just over the road a bit expensive but severs decent food we will defiantly be going back to this site

Overall this was a good site and I would go again. Location is excellent, easy to find, but quiet. Very pleasant tidy site, great to explore to the coast, the moors, or to york. Pitches were spacious flat and we had no problems in this respect. If your in the second filed (the one without the toilets) as for a pitch that faces the road and you will get the sun at night which makes a lot of difference! 2 gripes, both related. The price £18.90 for a family tent is a bit steep, especially in view of the toilets. The toilets were satisfactory. The block looks good from the outside but inside it smacks of a portakabin. The cubicles are tiny and the lay out is poor and space is wasted. you do well to get ready in the shower, it hard to hang things on the hook and open the door and the 20p slot is outside!there only 3 men's showers for the whole site although we had no problems with availability even though it was busy. Finally the site could really do with just the addition of 1 toilet for each sex in the second field it is long walk to the toilets for lot of campers! Overall though I would recommend this site!
