Very impressed with this campsite, very well maintained and toilet block immaculate at all times.
There are two fields for tents to pitch although both of them are surrounded by tourers or statics.
Both fields were flat and grass in excellent condition despite the horrendous wet weather in the week prior to our visit.
Site does have a shop and a coffee shop which is licensed we didn't use but looked very nice.
Black Bull pub just across road which has a warm welcome and food very good.
About an half hour walk into Pickering which is a busy little town with a host of amenities.
Only downside was its on a busy road which didn't affect me but hubby couldn't sleep for the traffic noise.
Would definitely return to site

Spent a very welcome weekend here after all the bad weather, couldn't wait to get away and relax for couple of days. Chose this site for the fact it wasn't too far from pickering and offered nature trail and cycling direct from the park.
Site like others have said is lovely and clean, very well kept, showers and toilets are kept spotless. But like someone else has mentioned space is limited. Five toilets and three showers in quite a small area. But I think if the site was full this might be a problem.
Had a lovely long walk with the dog down the public footpath. Would have been excellent for mountain biking, which we ended up not doing as it was too hot for the dog to run.
All in all I would recommend this site to anyone, but stock up on anything before you go as the shop is the most limited I ever been too. Not even a bottle of wine or icecream on offer!

A gem of a site this one! there had been some amount of rain in the week leading up to our stay (and hail when we were there) so the ground was a little boggy, but we didn't get any leaks or floods, and the site was very good, weather aside.
The pitches were large, with mostly tents in our field but tourers and chalets there too. Vans and motorhomes used the adjacent field with hardstandings.
Toilet facilities were excellent, recently refurbished by the looks of it.
The check in was easy, and they have a very quiant tea room and sun deck to chill out in and get a cuppa or something to eat.
The location is great, close enough to Pickering and Malton but far enough out of town for plenty peace and quiet
Best of the lot though, is the Black Bull pub over the road, complete with roaring log fire and lots of choice of ale.
Already looking forward to returning next season

This was my first time camping. I visited the site last year to check out prices and facilities, and then read the reviews.
Upper Carr seemed to tick the boxes.
I booked for a week to do some cycling. On the first night the temperature dropped so on Sunday I bought another sleeping bag in Pickering.
On Tuesday the weather changed, with a raging storm during the night and snow had fallen over the north of England, blocking roads in Pickering, so I upped camp and came home.
However I did find the site well laid out, the staff friendly and of course it is in an ideal location.
Work was going on to refurb the toilet/shower block but they were operational, the block being heated. The block was clean and for 20p there was more than enough hot water for the shower.
I would recommend Upper Carr and stay there again.
I did get to complete the Red Route in Dalby Forest and will be back in June for another go.

Just back from visiting this site to try out our new outwell tent. Nice warm welcome on arrival and was led to our pitch by Bob the park warden slight confusion over the electric hook up facility that we had booked but this was soon rectified.
Really easy to find on the main A169. Nice size camp with plenty of space between pitch, s (caravans, motorhomes tents and Pods share same field) Toilets and showers clean and plenty of hot water (showers 20p and those push buttons). Playground on site was well used by younger kids. On site shop was well stocked and had a licensed cafe on the side with pool table and some amusements
Black Bull pub just across the road does great food and beers and at the weekend even do breakfast for campers if you don't want to cook your own. Good location for Dalby Forest, North Yorkshire Moors Railway, York and Scarborough.
The only down side to the site was the noise from the main A169 Malton to Pickering
Overall a really nice site and would recommend

We had a weekend here to enable us to visit Flamingoland which is only about 10 minutes by car. We were on a grass pitch in an are of tents, other caravans, camping pods and rather grand looking lodges. The site is well kept and much attention is paid to the tidiness and prettiness of the park. It looks like a nice site should!
It has a wooden toilet block which houses, showers, and laundrette. The showers use a 20 pence which gives you around 5 minutes.
There is a children's play area in the middle of one of the area which our kids (two nine year old girls) loved as they made friends with some of the other kids there. There is also an indoor kids room with a few video games and a pool table.
As well as a shop selling basic items, there is a nicely decorated tea room selling quite a wide range of meals and snacks. We didn't eat there but popped in to buy a cake to go and it all looked quite nice.
The only down side I could say about this site is that while we were there it was very busy and you felt like they had squeezed as many pitches as possible in the space. But that said, our pitch was big enough for our purposes.
A nicely presented site, I would use again.

Visited with my tourer over the summer holidays with my family, came here last year. A really nice tidy park with lots going for it, easy reach of flamingo and walking distance to pickering, there's also a bus service out side of the park near the pub. Eden camp is well worth a visit just a short drive away from the park
The play area is reasonable for young children and there is an arcade with a pool table and some machines for the kids. The shop on site has most things for daily use, except newspapers, the nearest is the garage a mile away.
The shower rooms are a little small but nice and clean and adequate, although there is now a family room with a shower and toilet.
The staff are really helpful and the on site tea room and sun deck is really good and affordable, the lasagne choc cakes and wine were our favourite. They do takeaways too, pizzas good, and the free wifi is handy in the coffee shop. The blackbull pub was also a pleasant place to use across the road. They had entertainment a few times, the golf course next door to park is not part of the park but is good for a bit of fun, ok for a fiver a round. The local restaurants in pickering are plentyful. We got the steam railway from there, and had a good day out. Scarborough is easy enough to get to, as is york. We went by train to york from malton.
Our friends liked it so much at upper carr they part exchanged their touring caravan for a static mobile home on their new pitches they have just built.
Overall good value for money. Worth asking for a bit of discount if staying for a while. We shall be back soon.

Had been looking for a site in the area for a while and this was the only one who had a pitch for the 2 nights we needed. (I booked this in may for august)Im really glad they did have a pitch I loved the site, it had a really nice atmosphere.
We had pitch 80 which was on the end of a row and the nearest pitch was quite a distance away, the pitches were a good size. Our field was a mix of tents, caravans, pods and chalets. The toilet block and washing up facilities were through a hedge in the next field about a minute walk. They were very clean and tidy but be aware you will need 20p for the shower. Hot at 6-7am when I used them, cant comment about later on in the day.
The warden was brilliant and very helpful. The teashop and sun deck was lovely and the offer of meals and takeaways was a great idea.
You normally have to leave by 12 pm but can pay £3 to stay still 4pm, a lot of people seemed to be doing this whilst we were there. (We had an afternoon nap on sunday 3. 30-5 and woke up to find 4 of our neighbours had packed up and moved on, no noise at all felt a bit like billy no mates).
Locally there is so much to do. We had been to the moors the previous year and could have stayed another week and not done all we wanted. Dalby Forest is brilliant for walking, cycling and Go Ape but parking is £7 whether you stay all day or 1 hour so make a day of it, picnics and bbq's seem to be the order of the day.
Robin Hoods Bay, Staithes and Filey really appealed to us as did our trip on the NYMRailway to Grosmont, scenery is stunning and stopped off in Goathland (Aidensfied in Heartbeat)on the way back.
Whitby, Scarborough and Bridlington are typical sun, sea and sand beach resorts, great if that's what you want but avoid if you want something a bit more relaxing.
All in all this site offers value for money, good facilities and easy access to any type of holiday you want - active, quiet and seaside. We will definitely go back.
I only have 1 very small complaint and that there is no dog walking on site, not a real issue for us as we go out early to make the most of the day but could be a problem if you have a dog and want a day on site.

Spent a wet week at this campsite but despite the weather had a great time. The toilet and shower block were adequate but could have been cleaner.
Not keen on the fact that the showers were very close to the toilets and were small making it an uncomfortable experience. Even though our tent is quite big did not feel that the pitches were a great size and felt a little cramped. All ground is level and good security with traffic barriers. Good for children with a centrally located play area and games room. Never tried the tea rooms but looked excellent. Good location for North York Moors with Dalby Forest and North York Moors railway nearby.
The only really disappointing aspect of our trip was the nearby pub, The Black Bull. The Pub has no connection with the site and this should not put people off visiting. We visited the pub as a family of 4 for an evening meal. The pub is dated inside and the menu is similarly dated and overpriced. Anyway we did not wait for our meal, left, and went to Spice 4U in Pickering where we had a cheaper and excellent curry served by keen friendly staff.
Would consider using site again and definitely will be in the area again

We booked a 3 night stay at Upper Carr and it was our first visit, we have stayed at Black Bull before which is just across the road so therefore we compare the best from both sites,
Upper Carr has very nice layout for tents and caravans in three separate areas we were in the grass pitch area which is very well kept
The only problem being the pitch has no boundary and only marked by a single number stone,
The showers as has been said in other reviews are clean but poor compared to other sites plus that 20 pence charge is not justified,
Waste water the only disposal point is at the shower block which is a long haul from most of the pitches,
The new coffee shop is very good, in all a good site and I would use it again
