First visit for us having always previously been booked up. On arrival we were told to choose our own pitch which was nice, we arrived after 7 but was still able to choose a great pitch with plenty of space. The toilet block was well lit, clean and was warm. The washing up area was fine, only four sinks had to wait a while, microwave available. The best thing has to be location, a 10 min stroll to the village for pubs and shop was great for us. Some road noise, and church bells through the night but wasn't a problem for us. Close to the northface trail grisedale was a brilliant activity. For a weekend stay would definitely return.

Fantastic, good location, great facilities, quaint village 2 mins away and mobile shop visits site every day. Lovely pubs serving great food and good beer and great atmosphere. Brilliant bus service and station only 2 mins away. Bus can take you to Coniston, ambleside, Windermere and Lakeside. Fantastic holiday can't wait to come back

Stayed here for one night when visiting the area. I was quite surprised to read the reviews on here after our stay and the ratings it's received.

The site suffers from road noise being directly on the road, we knew this when we pulled in, but hadn't realised the main village car park / bus stops were directly opposite. There was no real hedging separating the site from the road, nor indeed the car park making it unsightly and not secure; lots of visitors were nipping across the road to use the picnic benches and toilet facilities of the site.

The inside of the facilities block were a plus, very clean and well kept. The same can't be said about the outside. The grass on site was very long and didn't look like it had seen a mower this year!

I wouldn't use this site again as there are much more peaceful and cheaper sites around.

We had a pleasant 2 nights here.

Pitches were hard standing and level. Each pitch had electric, water and a drain. The site was empty but I would think that even when busy you would still have space. The site is over the road from Hawkshead. The road isn't too busy at night but there is the odd lorry that goes past now and again. The rooks paid a very fleeting visit so weren't a problem.

All in all a decent site with easy access to numerous walks and Hawkshead itself.

We have just returned home after an absolutely brilliant stay at The Croft campsite! I haven't stayed there for over 25 years but was very happy to find improvements to toilets/showers etc, lovely and clean all the time, lovely hot showers after a days walking. Hawkshead, which is just across the road, has everything you need, it is beautiful and staff in shops/pubs were very friendly. As others have mentioned there does seem to be lots more spaces for caravans and hook ups but we pitched our tent down the left side and we were very happy there. Thank you Croft and will definitely be returning.

We had a short stay here last week as we made our way back home after a week away. We called in as we were passing and were lucky to get a spot by the river. Check in was very easy with a minimum of fuss and no lecture of do's and don't's. Excellent facilities, small tv/games room, spacious toilets and well spaced camping plots all at a reasonable price. The village is a great place to sit and relax in with some nice steady [dog] walks in the surrounding area. We're going to return in a few weeks.

Stayed for a long weekend, route to the site is from Ambleside which is a road typical for the lakes, narrow and winding. Not for a nervous driver with a big unit. Very pleasant welcome and given the choice of any vacant hardstanding pitch. So we chose one in the middle of the site. Facilities all very clean and to a good standard. As the pitch was fully serviced it meant that our use of the facilities was not essential. Being surrounded by trees I could not get a satellite signal but the TV point to the pitch worked fine. We did not have any issus with noise as the road is very quiet overnight and birds are dawn and dusk just like at home and I didn't even notice the church bells.

The village is just across the road so could not be closer and there are a number of places to eat. We used The Sun Inn great food good service but you will need to book.

As a couple the site was perfect, understand that there may not be much for children but there is a park very close and a lot of the kids enjoyed cycling around the site.

Would we go back, yes, and I would hope that we would not get 32mm of rain in 48hours, but then it was 'The Lakes. No such think as bad weather, just the wrong clothes!

Just returned from rather an unpleasant stay at this site. Although it does have really lovely facilities which are clean and modern and is within easy walking distance of the village, if you are going with just a standard tent be warned!

This campsite is now all geared for caravans, camper-vans or huge tents requesting electric hook up. If you are going with just a standard tent there is very limited space where you can pitch and the main strip of land available is the one which runs alongside the busy main road. When I say along side, I actually mean about 2 meters away! This meant that we could not relax at the tent without the constant noise of cars, trucks or tractors going past behind a sparse hedge which is on a bit of a rise from the site; there were times we could hardly hear each other speak! It does quieten down in the evening but we were still disturbed at night by noise of vehicles and glare of headlights.

We were told where we had to pitch our tent and nothing more; no explanation of where the facilities were.

We will not be returning to this site again.

We have just returned from a three night stay at this campsite and overall we enjoyed our visit. We found the staff friendly and helpful, and the campsite clean and well located. The owners must have read some of the previous reviews as there are now mops in the toilet blocks. Sadly we found the facilities around the campsite very limited. There is no play area on site for children and the local one is across a busy road. There is no specific dog walking area and no dog poo bins, the lady at reception seemed amused when I asked what I should do with it, surley I wasn't expected to keep it in the tent for three days and take it home.

The Wi-Fi network was only £1 for the duration of our stay but the signal was too weak to reach the tent. We have no complaint as the campsite had everything they said they would but I doubt we will hurry back. Even the excellent location right next to Hawkshead meant we had noise from the road, a rookery inthe trees above our head and a church clock that chimed every 15 minutes day and night. If it is convenient location you are after then this campsite is perfect, if you want a child friendly site and a good night sleep then perhaps give this one a miss.

We visited this campsite for the first time with our 2 children and I have to say I was very disappointed. After an awful journey up pulling a caravan on roads that are not suitable we finally arrived to what I felt was like a carpark not a campsite. There was gravel everywhere and not much grass at all. The park we were told which was just across the road was further than we thought and was really only a football pitch with a few poorly maintained swings. The toilets were nice but no mops so mud all over the floor, and the worst part (which is not a fault of the campsite) was the 100's of Rooks in the trees above which were just hideous from 4am to 6am every morning. They must have woken the whole caravan site up! The price per night was also top whack.

On the plus site the village location was perfect and the pubs and shops were lovely.
