Really enjoying our 5 days on this pleasant site with very good facilities. Clean shower block with plenty of hot water. Covered washing up area. Water tap on pitch.
Noise of traffic on B road is more than made up for by convenience of having village just across the road. No need to bring provisions here! Village has deli selling local meat, cheese etc, newsagents, pharmacy and well stocked small Co-op for everything else.
Plenty of places to eat or to buy take-aways.
Bought set of 5 easy to follow walk leaflets from reception for £2. 99. Well worth it. Enjoyed walks to Tarn Hows and up Latterbarrow Hill. Trying a third walk today.

We have just returned from a long weekend, myself, husband and 6 year old daughter. Shower blocks were clean and a there was two private rooms a bathroom and a shower room, great for families. Although I think they should put some shelves or something to put your shower stuff on as the floor got wet and muddy at times and there was no mop to clean it up. Other than that it was a nice quiet site close to Hawkshead village, literally just across the road. Lots of lovely little shops and pubs with good food. We went to The Sun a couple of nights on the run, great food. Just be careful on some of the roads when towing as they are very tight on some corners, not good when you meet something coming the other way! Other than that we had a great time and would definitely go back.

I love this site, especially on a Sunday morning sat in my caravan with the village church bells chiming away as I sit with my coffee without a care in the world.
We are a family of 4 with 2 girls and a tourer and were recommended this site by my brother who had camped here. A great recommendation, it ticks all the boxes.
* Lovely and peaceful with decent clientèle (I've never experienced any riff raff or trouble here)
* No park on site but the little stream provides hours of fun for the children. Sometimes the ducks pay a little visit too.
* Simple as it may seem, the daily visit by the milkman is a delight for ours as they run to meet him for a milkshake.
* The bathroom is a hit- clean and tidy and the toilet block is always clean too.
* The village of Hawkshead is literally across the road and so beautiful. The Queens head does a decent menu and child friendly. I also like people watching from the quirky Poppy café.
*Grizedale forest is just a few miles away
*The village park with tennis court and basket ball nets is a few metres away.
All in all a great site and I am looking forward to our next visit :-)

Nicely setup campsite with individual hard standings each with own water supply. The lovely village of Hawkshead is just over the road which runs along 2 sides of the site. Four nice dog friendly pubs in village. Internet is £1 for code for however long you stay but is only broadcoast from one point (TV room) so does not cover all the site. This would be a nice improvement. Cost is £23/night low season for van, 2 adults and dog.
For us the massive downside was there are only 3 toilet rooms open each containing a bath or shower. They are all very nice but when there are about 20 vans and families on site at the weekend they can be very hard to get into even out of peak hours. Imagine if a family of 3 all go for a shower at the same time. All 3 may be in use for 15 mins. This caused us and some others we saw issues with some going back and forth hoping to get in. This could easily be solved by opening their main toilet block at weekends. For us this became such a big hassle it spoilt the site for us and I would not return again on a weekend unless all the toilets were open. If they had of opened then I would have given it an 9 overall.

There's lots in favour of this site and the village as other reviewers have described but we won't be returning because of the following niggles.
The road is very close and quite noisy, especially in the day when vehicles are bringing many visitors to the village.
The showers are too hot! Weird complaint I know but they have no adjustment and after a long, hot walk you need to be able to get the right temperature.
We thought the price was high end for very limited facilities.
All in you won't have a bad stay here but it's not the best available.

Just returned from a glorious week at The Croft - enjoying the hottest weather for years!
This was our first visit and we were very impressed with the facilities and 'laid-back' approach which allowed us to camp where we wished and were even offered a grass area next to a hard standing as there was limited space in the grass area. Although fairly busy the shower facilities were never full and were kept spotless throughout our stay. With the weather so hot it was an added bonus to find a large freezer available to freeze ice packs - we also used it to store bags of ice which we needed to keep food cool during the 30+ degrees - much better than the usual arrangement of going in and out of the reception to hand in and retrieve ice packs.
Local facilities are excellent - with locals very friendly and helpful - special mention to the Red Poppy cafe who serve delicious cakes to enjoy with your coffee/tea!
We tried to extend our stay by 2 nights but could only get 1 night due to the 2nd night being full - we could see why.
We will be back!

I have visited this campsite on numerous occasions, with a tent, a motor-home and a caravan. Each time I visited I enjoyed my visit, irrespective of the weather. The campsite is in a beautiful location ans has good facilities and the staff are helpful. There is a small village nearby with one of the best pubs I have been to, Queens Head, which does really good beer and excellent food. There is lots to do in the surrounding areas. We have had good walks and have visited the Grisedale forest with our mountain bikes. It is a site I never tire of visiting.

Visited end of may for 3 nights. We have stayed before & were more than happy 2 years ago. Booking, paying & signing in on arrival is a breeze. The camping field has been updated recently to include hard standing with electric hook-up, although there is still plenty of pitches for people like us who want to slum it!
The toilet facilities have also been improved to include 2 separate shower rooms which are warm, large enough to sread your stuff about in, include a loo & hairdryer. The only thing missing is a shelf to set your toiletries on. There is also a bathroom, handy for families with little ones, I didn't go in so can't comment. The field was a bit boggy in parts, but with the rain lately it can't be helped.
The village is 3 mins walk away, includes a co-op for groceries, a post office, & chemist & various country shops & eateries along with a couple of pubs. Loads to do in the area would take weeks to try & fit it all in. Beatrix Potter gallery etc. Walk to Tarn Hows in 1 and half hours. Grizedale forest in an hour then spend all day there wandering the forest paths or visiting the main centre to hire a bike or use the treetop activity. The bus to coniston is once an hour, takes 25 mins ish, you then have access to the lake and the surrounding countryside for allsorts of activities.
This time my OH locked the only set of car keys in the car. I went round to reception & spent an hour using their phone & getting info off google to see what I could do! The staff were extremely helpful, at what was probably the busiest time of the week. Sat afternoon changeover for their other accommodations. I would go back tomorrow! (a friendly fellow camper, who had just pitched happened to be a car mechanic and helped us break in to get to the keys) not ideal but better than spending £221. 00 on a new window!

Just got back from this site today. Its the first visit to this site but will definitely not be our last. The pitches are well spaced and not regimented. The staff are very helpful and efficient and checking in took a matter of minutes. The toilet facilities are clean and well looked after with a row of toilet cubicles but also some separate toilets with shower cubicles and hairdryer in each which I personally prefer.
A milk van comes round site each morning which is very handy. The beautiful village of Hawkshead is literally across the road with a selection of small shops and eating pubs. The food at the Queens Head is excellent and the Kings Arms foods is also good but I suggest if you want to eat in their restaurants rather than the pub you need to book as they get very busy. We didn't eat at the Red Lion but the food looked good also.
Grizedale forest is good for a day out as there are plenty of walks ranging from pretty easy to quite strenuous. All said this is one of the most enjoyable sites and caravan holidays we have had and cant wait to go back.

We arrived mid week un booked. We did not need electric so we went in to the right hand field. We had a full choice of pitches as there was only one other visitor in the field. We chose a hard standing as the grass areas were very wet - no surprise as it had rained for a week. One draw back is that field is bounded on 2 sides by the main road.
We had previously been staying at the head of Langdale and so we did notice the traffic noise in the early evening. Local farm lad seemed to be enjoying driving up and down in his new tractor. The problem was easily solved - we went to the pub. We visited 3 pubs (very easy level walking) all 3 were dog friendly and we had a good crack with locals and tourists alike.
Staff very helpful and looked up number of local vet as our hound had eaten mouse poison hidden under the seats at the pub at Outgate. If you want one of the best pubs in the world go to the Tower Bank Arms at nearby Sawrey. Toilets and showers were spotless and the water was invigoratingly hot. Make sure you go to Grizedale Forest and look for the Art Works. And take a rod to fish in the nearby Esthwaite Water.
A good site - we will be back as soon as the weather picks up.
Cost us £16 for campervan 2 adults and a hound.
