This site is down a long tarmacced road a couple of miles from Penrith centre. Whilst it feels remote, the M6 and a rail line runs very close to the site (in fact you pass under both on the way in)so its not as quiet as you would think. Noise is however, not really a problem.
Penrith itself is a very pleasant town to visit with a good range of shops and easy parking.
On arrival at the gatehouse, we were met by an extremely courteous woman who went through the formalities and allocated our pitch.
The site was full during our stay. We had booked a pitch with awning.
The pitch itself was small with what I assume was once a grass area but was now pretty much all mud to erect the awning upon. Space to put the car was extremely tight.
The toilet facilities were reasonably clean, there is a well stocked shop and a bar/ restaurant.
There is a very pleasant riverside walk around the site and plenty of opportunities to walk the dogs.
The site is very large, and filled with a large number of static homes. In fact this is what the parks primary business is. The touring pitches appear to be an adjunct. If you approach your stay from that point of view then you will probably enjoy you stay as indeed a number of people who I spoke to really liked it.
There were a number of seasonal pitches dotted around. Some were well looked after but a fair few were a bit of a mess with bits of old wood and junk on the pitch surrounded by weeds.
To sum up this site review, it's not really my cup of tea. Site dominated by statics, touring pitches very much on the small side and lots of seasonals looking 'unkempt'.

We were two adults with a two berth touring caravan and we came here with the idea of using the site as a regular base so we could see our grandchildren and family who live in the area. In the end we disliked the site so much we left a day early.
The facilities were reasonably clean except for the chemical WC emptying point which wasn't cleaned during the three days we were there. It was vile.
The site was well maintained with the grass cut and the litter collected although the un-emptied bins were all overflowing when we were there.
The area for touring caravans to which we were sent was really chaotic and frankly awful. There were few designated pitches, ours wasn't signed at all so we just guessed where to go and finished up on a very sloping pitch. The touring area was a crazy mix-up of tents and caravans and also doubled up as a play area for children so it was very noisy all day and into the evening because the children seemed to have no other open area to go to let off steam, apart from a nearby place with play equipment. They were hardly to blame for the noise just bad design.
Units were very close together so parking was a chaotic problem and this made access to our pitch very narrow between vehicles when we arrived.
Our pitch was less than 20 metres from a football pitch with a low fence around it, again really bad design layout. This meant that footballs were frequently landing in the camping area and had to be retreived. This coupled with the other football play going on all around us all afternoon and evening, meant that we were constantly disturbed by children retrieving balls from under our car and caravan until dark and we were
Always worried at the prospect of one hitting us and causing damage.
It was evident that many of the occupants of the tents around us were there to drink from lunch time, all though the afternoon and then back to the site pub in the evening for the proverbial skinful. So we had loud voices and the thud thud of music until after 1am when we were there.
The rules such as they were, were not enforced anyway. There were no officials around to enforce them, no rules at all regarding ball games, children on cycles and powered scooters were allowed to run amok on the site and dogs barked endlessly. Dogs were also exercised on site by some owners.
As far as we are concerned, we have learned our lesson and that is to give Lowther Holiday Park a very wide berth indeed from now on.

Great site, very friendly staff. The facilities were fine, apart from the shop closing for 4 hours in the middle of the afternoon with no notice, which wasn't handy, as we needed supplies. Take a walk to the top of the site, there's a forest walk up there which is lovely. There's loads of wildlife, the first thing we saw was a red squirrel, and also a hare was running round the site. Amazing. Be careful where you pitch, we were under some trees, so everything got covered with crow poo, including the car, which is still marked. Lesson learned!

What a find. Fantastic site, great location, friendly staff. Great shop and pub on site, lovely riverside location, and woods to walk in. We only stayed one night, but we will definitely be back! Wish we could have stayed for longer. They even have a dog walking area, take your camera as it's so lovely. It's a bit like a holiday camp, but that's no bad thing, we really enjoyed the inclusiveness.
We're going back next time for a week with the grandchildren, plenty to do, and lots to see.

Nice site easy access of m6 close to Penrith town centre for supermarkets shops and takeaways angel lane chippy is brilliant. The staff at lowther are very friendly couldn't be more helpful and the entrance is staffed 24 hrs in case of problems. The toilets and showers are clean the kids will play for hours in the river. The only thing that spoils it a bit is the touring pitch es are on the small size and close together and the roads between could be better marked but the staff are a credit to the site owners will return

We absolutely love this site and have stayed three times with friends in the last year. Fantastic location, so much to do, beautiful scenery and wildlife. Child friendly. Staff so friendly and helpful. We'll definitely be back. Ideal for those with dogs as the walks are lovely. Outdoor swimming pool is very close by when the weather's good. Stream running through the site which is good for bathing/dinghy's (under close supervision as it can be quite fast when there has been heavy rainfall).

Great (though wet) weekend.
Went for the duck weekend and kids loved it! Play parks, a football pitch, a river and a games room- kiddie heaven!
Activity weekends only £40 for the weekend too- cracking value! Shame the A66 is such a pain of a drive, else we'd be there far more regularly!
Facilities great too, inc a bath, which my 3 year old really appreciated. In saying that there isn't much she didn't appreciate!

We love this site. It is our weekend getaway as is only 90 mins from home. This weekend was a change of booking as we couldn't make the original September booking but via email, the site managers were extremely helpful in changing our dates.
Our pitch was one of the few smaller pitches as we didn't book an awning this time. Most pitches are large with hardstanding for the van and grass next to it, and enough space between that you don't feel on top of one another!
The part we love most about this site is the on site facilities. Our 5 year old loves deciding which of the 3 play areas she will go to first, we love the fact the on site pub is next to one of the play areas (great meals available in the evening), and the shop is very reasonably priced and seems to stock everything you could possibly leave at home!
Toilet facilities are very clean and enough of them for the size of site.
Penrith is a great day out, with lots of local shops and great stops for coffee and lunch. We also love Brougham Hall - go and have a latte at the cafe, and make a donation to the restoration of the hall. And nowhere is off limits at the Hall so you get to see everything, unlike some restoration projects.
We also love Lowther Castle and went for the first time just as restoration had started so it is great going back and seeing the progress being made.
We took advantage of the free storage this weekend and so our van is still at Lowther and we are going up again on Friday till Sunday for only £38 - bargain!

We spent 5 nights at this lovely campsite and would thoroughly recommend it. Having read the previous reviews I was very pleasantly surprised to find excellent facilities. There are plenty of shower and toilet facilities, not once did I find them to be dirty or in short supply. There are 2 blocks and when one is being cleaned the other is a minute further walk along the path. The cleaning times are clearly displayed so easy to plan around them.
Being that we were there in a peak period (26 Jul-1Aug) I would have expected some queues for facilities, but not once did we queue. Did not find the key thing a problem, just got to remember to take it with you! We paid an extra £5 deposit so we could get an extra key for the toilet blocks - which I would recommend doing.
The campsite itself is lovely, our children aged 9, 6 and 4 thoroughly enjoyed the parks and football area. Some tent pitches are on a slope, but a lot are flat. Water and electric very close. Lovely walks around the capsize.
Excellent shop on site which sells everything you could possibly need, very friendly owners. The pub is also very nice, not tacky - modern and clean.
Agree with previous review about tourers, the touring area is very crammed and shaded with tall trees.
Personally think this site had got some undeservedly bad reviews recently, the plus side of that being a very nice surprise on arrival. Would definitely go back.

Just got home from Lowther park after a lovely week, This park has everything you could want for a brilliant holiday.
The forest and riverside walks on site are unspoilt and lead up to lowther castle, the site is quiet and peaceful yet has 3 play areas and a football pitch for the kids.
The facilities on site are excellent. Staff can't do enough for you. There is a very well stocked mini market, take away and pub restaurant you really don't have to leave the site. I will certainly be returning very soon.
