First time camping and went with a recommendation from a friend on this one. Wise move, excellent site, could not of been better and would go back again. Tent pitches decent size and the field in which they were in was right next to the children's play area and football goals, great when you want to chill by your tent but watching your children at the same time. Toilets and showers were fine, clean and maintained.
The shop on site sells a bit of everything, really handy. Popped into the site pub for a drink, nice atmosphere. We were lucky to have great weather so we did not sample the food in the pub because we were doing our own barbecues the whole weekend.
Destination of the campsite great, easy to access pooley bridge, Ullswater, and so on. On leaving the campsite on the Sunday asked a member of staff to recommend a good place for Sunday lunch, she recommended Lowther Castle aprox 5 mins away, best sunday lunch Ive had, lovely home made food and great place to eat. Great weekend all round.

We have visited this marvellous site around six times now and we simply love everything about it. The location is beautiful and thoughtfully set out with the river Lowther running along the entire length of the park. This Park is only a mile or so from J40 of the M6 and easily found. Wildlife is in abundance and many red squirels are easily spotted running freely throughout the campsite. You pass under a very impressive railway viaduct on the tree sheltered drive up to the park. The security here is excellent and staff are very friendly and helpful. The children's play areas are very safe and well constructed. The Pub on site has great meals and choices of fine ales for those interested. T here is a varied mixture of Log Cabins, Static Caravans, Residential Tourer pitches, Standard tourer pitches and a large tent area (although this does have a gentle slope at the top end of the site). This site has probably the best dog walk you will find anywhere. All in all this site has virtually everything we like about a Campsite which is not overcrowded and noisy even at peak times, although booking is essential to avoid disappointment. Very Highly Recommended. (10 out of 10 for us!)

Have returned from Lowther after 4 nights.
What a lovely site. The pitches can feel a little close together but the stunning surroundings more than make up for this.
There quite a lot of seasonal pitches here but you did not feel out of place. Toilets and showers immaculate. Cleaned at certain times each day. Did use shop but my hubby did and said it was quite reasonably priced. The pub on site Squirrel Inn does bar food and takeaway. Did not eat there but what I saw food looked nice.
Several playgrounds for children and also games field.
Surrounding area lovely. Five minutes from Penrith so handy for shops. Nice walk from site to Lowther Castle through wood.
Would definitely return.

This was our second visit to this park, and again we were not disappointed.
The toilet and showers very clean and well maintained.
Great on site facilities, well stocked shop as well as the Squirrel Inn that serves food as well as take away.
Had my mum who is a wheelchair user, it was great, we walked along the river side.
A great base for exploring the Lakes with easy access to the motorway.
Look forward to going back again.

First time I've been to this site and let me say now it won’t be the last; the site is very well maintained.
We were staying on the tent field which is right across the other side of the site next to the children’s play area, Bmx track & Football pitch so some noise through the day, not too much of a problem at night while we were there. The pitch could also have been a bit flatter, Recommend you take some heavy duty ground hog pegs as it was very rocky in places and could not get pegs down far enough. I did notice after a very heavy thunderstorm that lots of water had collected on the pitches by the road side.
The toilets were a fair walk from the tent area, and you had to have a key (available at office £5.00 deposit) which was slightly awkward between a large family, but were always spotless and never crowded and there is a small freezer outside the middle block for icepacks (which I thought was a nice touch)
The minimarket on site was reasonably stocked with all the essentials’ and prices weren’t too bad. The pub on site (Squirrel Inn) served the normal pub foods, averagely priced we used their take away facility one night which is cheaper and enjoyed the meal back at our tent. There’s also a KFC on the roundabout very close to the site.
The area around the site had some lovely walks with fantastic views. The river Lowther that runs down the side of the site is great for the kids on a hot day and Fly fishing is available for £5.00 but if your into course fishing there’s a great pond (Whims pool) which is less than 10 minutes drive from the campsite and is well stocked with all the usual course fish including some nice sized carp (£5.00 a day, rod hire and essentials like bait, hooks & line are available at the house).
Over all we had some of our best days camping here and would recommend it to anyone who likes the Lake District and wants a good clean site.

Well what can I say.
Went to Lowther Park for the week (last week) and had the best time ever. Obviously the weather helped but the site itself is fantastic.
River Lowther running right through, kids fly fishing (5 quid for a licence), walks take you right through the Lowther Estate and the views are breathtaking. The site facilities were spotlessly clean with an abundant of shower cubiles which easily fits an adult and 2 kids with its seperate step down section of the shower. Showers free and well warm! Pub, great beers, meals not mega cheap but great to have on hand if you really can't be bothered to cook, does cheaper versions for takeaway.
We stayed on a hardstanding pitch slightly shaded by the trees which was great although pitch spaces were closer together than we expected and did get a little cramped while trying to manoever off once hooked up to leave.
My 6 year old was bold over when a cheeky red squirrel decided to run through his legs while he was stood in the woods - amazing! Loved the walk to the castle and had a fab meal at the Punchbowl in Askham, what a gorgeous village. BMX track for the kids, loads of adventure swings etc and a footie pitch - altogether perfic - in fact going back late August.
Hmmm I had to think twice about posting the review as half of me wanted to keep this secret - definitely the best site we have stayed on so far and after looking at the rest of the reviews it seems that this site has got it just right!

This was our second visit to this site but the first with the children. The reason we came back with the kids is because we thought they would like it and we weren't disappointed! The kids had a thoroughly great time, the playpark was great - well looked after and very safe. The walks through the forest or along the river are excellent. The site has lots of statics and some beautiful pine lodges with tents in a smaller (but perfectly adequate) area. All pitches have electric points included in the price. The showers and toilets are very clean with a depositable key issued on arrival so very safe, there are two blocks and they are both closed in turn for an hour and a half every day for cleaning which shows the excellent level of service. The washing up areas are in the same blocks as the showers and have three large sinks with lots of hot water - also very clean here too. One of the blocks even has a freezer which is only for ice packs - a nice touch we thought. The staff are very friendly and helpful, I arrived with no cash for the key deposit and was given the key anyway. The pub on site is great although we didn't use it this visit as the kids were with us but if you sit outside I hope you like bats as they fly in and out of the wooden exterior of the building! There is regular live entertainment in the pub and it has its own play area for the kids. The shop is fantastic, very well stocked and reasonable prices with friendly helpful staff. The surrounding area is very nice, its a short drive into Penrith and Windermere is easily reached from here as well but we didn't feel the need to leave the site! The site is literally minutes from the M6 so very easily reached. This was the first time we have camped as a family and we couldn't have picked a better site to start with, perfect peace and tranquility even WITH the kids!

We took our three young children here (6, 4 and 2) and we enjoyed it so much in May that we went again in June. Great play parks for the children and we felt at ease letting them play on their bikes etc.
There are lovely short walks through the forest and along the river so take your dinghy and nets! The park was kept beautifully clean, plenty of toilet facilities and there was always hot water at the fantastic sized sinks for washing up. Staff were always friendly and polite.
Easy to find off the motorway and the manned entrance made the stay feel secure. Don't forget to take £5 for your (refundable) deposit for the toilet key! Ideal for tents, trailer tents or caravans - everyone will feel at home here. There are some harder pitches than others. Although they were all on grass we found our second visit on a different pitch did better with rock pegs - just a minor point!
This is definitely a fresh air, walks and playing football kind of place although there is a great pub on site too. We'll be going again!

Our first visit to this site and we were impressed. The toilet /shower block was clean and checked at regular intervals, the showers were free and warm (after a few press's of the button)my only complaint was that the shower block itself was cold. The shop was well stocked and reasonably priced. The pub had entertainment some nights, there was food available till about 8.30. There was seating outside as well as a nice play area. The touring pitches were on gravel in amongst trees which was nice, from our caravan we could see Red Squirells running around. The site was patrolled regularly by security staff, all the staff we spoke to were friendly and helpful. We left a day earlier than we had booked for and were offered a voucher for another night !that must be unique,I thought their pricing was very fair as they do not charge extra for awnings or dogs and the fee per night is for up to six people. I would certainly go back.
