Just spent 3 great nights there, fantastic location, the staff where very helpful, particularly the young lady who my wife asked for directions to Aira Force, she didn, t know but rang her mum who gave directions!
Brilliant. A great walk through the woods alongside the campsite. Only downside for tent users was the location of the toilet block, especially as I had forgot to pack the portaloo!
Didn't venture into the restaurant and bar which I was told was rather good. Preferred to bbq and watch my daughter play in the play area.
Would definitely recommend this site even if you only use it as a base, as we did. Oh and the site shop would put your local supermarket to shame.

Only stopped 1 night as we were on our way home
Lovely site but felt there were just to many caravans on and too close together. Lovely drive up to the site, facilities were very good and two lovely dog walks through the woods which my dogs really enjoyed.
Convenient for Keswick and Penrith and good pubs and walks. Wardens very helpful and I think the stickers for the caravan and car and the key for the toilets, showers is an excellent idea as you will not get people who use the facilities but are not staying at Lowther.

Just come back from 5 days at Lowther (Tuesday to Sunday):
Good points: Great base location Fairly quiet during the week Excellent shop Flatish pitch with good EHU
Bad points: Noisier at the weekend with no enforcement of camp rules Showers were cold three days out of five
Overall we enjoyed our stay, but with a little bit more care and ownership it could be a great site.

Visited this site for a week at Easter with our two children and arrived to find the touring area fairly quiet. The touring pitches are gravelled and set within a small woodland part of the site. Come Good Friday the site filled up and felt overcrowded. Despite it being very busy there was never a queue for the showers.
Good points:
- The river. A short stroll through the statics to a beautiful shallow, clean river. Our two children (5 and 3) had a wonderful time paddling and spent many hours trying to catch fish (to no avail!).
- The play areas. One larger area at the top of the site and a smaller one by the pub.
- The Squirrel Inn. Nice to sit out and enjoy a drink whilst watching the children play in the play area.
- The roads around the site are great for cycling.
- The shop. Really well stocked and fairly reasonably priced.
- The location. 5 mins off the M6. Very easy to get to and find!
Bad points:
- Toilets although cleaned daily were not sparkling.
- Hand dryers not working in either toilet block.
- The large area for seasonal tourers appears not to be managed by the site owners and is pretty scruffy.
- The food in the Squirrel Inn disappointingly to be avoided - at all cost!
On the whole we had a great week (helped in no small part by the beautiful weather) and will no doubt return despite the afore mentioned negatives.

Myself my wife & our 3year old daughter stayed at this site last week. It was our first camping trip as a family & mine in nearly 25 years. The site came recommended from a friend who recently stayed there.
All in all we loved the site and will definitely return. My daughter loved the 3parks and spent many hours there. The toilets & shower blocks were clean & warm. Basically they did the job so no complaints.
We also visited the on site pub as my daughter wanted to play on the park there. The pub seemed nice but we didn't stay long enough really to enjoy it.
There is a on site shop that as a fantastic selection of goods & at reasonable prices.
We also found the caravan owners very friendly and help full especially mark who is a seasonal holder near the football pitch. We was made to feel welcome by all really so there is no bad comments about the place.
It is also worth the short drive into Penrith a pay the town a visit it's well worth it.
I definitely recommend this park & I'll certainly be returning again.

We have just returned from a week here and in all honesty I could not recommend this site, but it has the potential to be one of the top ten sites in the uk. Fantastic scenery great walks and lots of wildlife to spot, EHU was good no problems with tripping out and plenty of water and waste points around the site, also plenty to do in the local area off site.
The down side. A lot of the pitches are on the small side, I could not reverse directly onto my van to couple up when leaving due to the pitch opposite being taken, I was at such an acute angle I couldn't couple the electrics up until I had moved forward and no I am not a novice at reversing. Some had to push their vans into place as there was not enough room to manouver between their pitch and the van opposite. There are no proper boundaries to the pitches so some people tend to take up more space than they should, meaning late arrivals having to squeeze in.
One of the shower blocks had hot water for the sinks and bath but main showers were cold. The site has rules but no one took any notice and no one enforced them, I had balls hitting my car and caravan and saw children riding bikes between the caravans, this was despite there being a good play area for children. I know children's behaviour is down to the parents but at no time did I see staff take any action to enforce rules.
I was told by staff that the main share holder is retiring and selling up, and the head warden is also retiring, I hope this happens soon as most of the staff seemed excellent just in need of good leadership, maybe this was why there was an air of complacency.
The site has a large area for lodges and statics which was clean tidy and looked after, but the area devoted to seasonal pitches looked like a cross between a gypsy camp and a squat again I think down to lack of leadership.
The setting is fabulous, woodland walks plus a river running alongside. It should be a crown in the jewel of caravanning

Went here for a few days away in August. Its very easy to find and very close to the beautiful little town of Penrith. The site has a lot of static vans and playparks for the kids. The site shop is the BEST I have ever seen. It sells everything and its prices are excellent. There's a family pub and restaurant and although I didn't eat there, the food looked lovely and prices were reasonable. Bar prices were average too.
The tent field was slightly sloped, but not too much that you are sleeping in a slant. Well maintained and good mature grass. Shelter comes from trees at the back of the site. My only criticism with regard to the tent field is that The tents could probably have been spaced a little further apart, but it wasn't so crammed that you felt claustrophobic. It was more for the fact that we could hear an angry mum shouting at her kids every morning at 7.30am.
The Shower block was spotless and I like the fact the cubicles had space to get dressed. There were also plenty of showers, so no queueing for a shower every morning. My biggest criticism of this site is where the showerblock is. Its quite a long walk from the camping field and when you arent great on your feet like my wife, its a very long way to go to the toilet. They really need to build even just a toilet nearer the camping field. Its too far away!
Other than this I cannot fault the site. A fantastic addition to your camping holiday is that you don't need to be off site till 10pm. I wish all sites offered that option.

This is a smashing campsite that I'd struggle to fault at all. Having to have a key to the toilet block is probably the only criticism I could level, but it's more of a minor irritation than anything else (especially when you forget it).
The site has three play parks, (each aimed at different age groups), a very good games room, a football pitch, plenty of grass and woodland for the kids to explore, a (sort of) BMX track, a good bar which serves food, good size pitches, plenty of room and a well stocked shop open at very reasonable hours and the staff are brilliant.
It's an ideal site for young families - we were there for seven days and only left the site on three occasions and the kids never got bored.
There's a country walk along to Lowther Castle with a river running alongside which in parts is shallow and calm enough for the kids to have a paddle. If you do get bored Ullswater / Pooley Bridge et. al. are only a kick up the backside away and there are plenty other attractions roundabout.
Although I'm not the type to go to a place more than once I'd definitely return to this site.

We have been to this site many times, we had our first caravan holiday here, so when we got the opportunity to return, we were looking forward to it.
The pitches are quite spacious, and most of them set around trees. On this occasion we did feel hemmed in as our neighbours seemed to take over every bit of available space, but it didn't put us off.
The site has a great little pub, I would advise you get there early if you want a seat, it gets really busy. We had a couple of meals, very good!
Yes there are lots of kids around on bikes, but I think its nice to see them having fun.
The facilities are clean, but you do share them with a lot of wildlife (more than I remember)
The nearby river provides a beautiful walk and many birds can be seen, we spent ages watching a heron fish.
It is ideally situated for Penrith,Keswick and other wonders the Lakes provide.

I stayed here for two nights on an EHU pitch with a friend and our young children. The ground is level and well drained and the toilet and shower facilities are excellent, as are the three different playgrounds on site. The shop is well stocked, reasonably priced and the site is extremely accessible from the M6.
Unfortunately, there were lots of children/teenagers racing around the site with no supervision. This continued until late into the night with no curfew for noise that I could see and somewhat tainted our stay.
For an easily accessible well serviced site, I would recommend a stay here, but if you have young children who go to bed relatively early I would suggest finding a somewhere quieter.
