Lowther was our first experience as campers, where we stayed for one night to 'see if we'd like it'. We borrowed equipment from my brother, so weren't classed as the seasonal campers! We arrived and the lady at reception gave us a pack with local things to do among other useful information, and politely pointed us to our pitch.

The site was quite busy, but the pitch we were given had an EHU (didn't use it) and loads of room. We only had a little 3 or 4 man dome tent but our neighbours had a big tent (as did everyone!) and seemed to have plenty of space. I think we got a few strange looks putting such a small and dated tent up, but it wasn't long before our neighbour came and offered the lend of their electric pump for our airbed - after using the foot pump for 10 minutes before realising the missus hadn't put the plug in I wasn't best pleased with her!

After we got the tent up we took a drive to Keswick - a town we've grown to love. It's got a great market place stretching the length of it and some bargains in the camping shops surrounding it.

When we got back to the site we wanted to go for a walk - the reception had some detailed instructions of places to walk to, so we opted for the 6 mile journey around the nearby Lowther village. The shower/toilet block was clean, and had plenty of availability - there weren't any queues the few times we used them.

After we got back from a meal at a local pub we decided to use the on site bar. It was pretty busy and had a vibrant atmosphere. The lager was as expected, but the prices weren't. I was expecting something more expensive but we paid no more than we would have done at the local at home!

On the night, we could hear people talking and laughing until around 3am, but nothing that kept us from sleeping, and nothing that was ever rowdy. We had a breakfast at the restaurant on site the next morning and it was great - I'm a big eater but this kept me going until tea time. It really isn't like me to miss dinner altogether!

We had a really good experience at Lowther, and although not one of the cheaper sites we've seen it was still worth the money.

We've since bought a bigger tent and more equipment, and we plan to make camping a more regular holiday now thanks to our experiences at this site.

Stayed for one night on stopover. Phoned to book a place, told no need to. Presumed not very busy. Arrived, asked for booking details, told of phone call above. Basically this was complete nonsense and I was lucky (unlucky) to get a space.

Beautiful park with nice facilities. However a group of about 5 in a tourer van spoiled it for many. Shouting and singing from 8pm until 2.00 am at least - I fell asleep exhausted. Phoned park no at 1.00am, spoke to Warden who seemed totally uninterested.

Left park at 10.00am next day and the offenders were sound asleep in their caravan and hadn't ven been asked to leave. Lots of good sites around - avoid this one. Sorely let down by 2 staff members. Others were very nice.

Excellent facilities and beautiful location. Lovely walks and bike rides. Made very welcome. Pub and restaurant on site welcoming and child friendly. Food was fantastic and really good value for money. The pitch we were given was perfect. Great to see wildlife and the children thought it was great. Would recommend this to friends

Just returned from this site. WOW! Loved it! Already planning next visit.

Site well maintained, toilet blocks and washing up area spotless, with loads of hot water.

Great play areas for the kids, well stocked shop and prices not bad. Same goes for pub on site.

Staff always very friendly.

Superb walks from site and great for bikes.

Highly recommended.

We were allocated a pitch on arrival and given plenty of info on the site. When we got to the pitch there was lots of space and level.

The toilet block and showers (free) were very clean, they are about a 100m ish walk away from the camping area.

The pub on the site is nice and also serves food, although we did not eat in the restaurant the menu looked nice.

There is a shop which stocks all of the basics.

You can access the site from 8am on the day of arrival and do not need to leave until 10pm on your departure day.

Site security is very good and security barriers at night.

EHU available.

Overall a good site, will be returning.

Stayed at Lowther Caravan park for the easter egg hunt weekend, and it was great ! We were very lucky with the weather, lovely and sunny.

Everything is great with this site, cant find a negative to say about it, staff very friendly, site lovely and clean, loads of toilets, showers and great little rooms with a bath, toilet and sink in, great for bathing the kids.

Loads of space for kids to play, football pitch, bmx track, walk / bike ride along river.

Squirrel inn is smallish but nice atmosphere, the restaurant food is very nice and the do a takeaway service til 9.30pm. Kids are not allowed in the bar area but they have a family room. There's also a games room with table tennis, pool and some video games.

As mentioned by other poeple you can arrive at 8am and leave for 10pm, amazing!

Definitely going back to this one and soon !

We come here every year to the themed Halloween weekend. I must say the site location is wonderful with a stream and woodlands beautiful for walking. If I had the money this would be the perfect place to purchase one of the log cabins.

The weekend itself is wonderful all the caravans are decorated with Halloween items and kids go trick or treating. They have a Kids party on the Saturday at the on site pub (you have to pay for tickets £5 per child) where all the kids get dressed up and the best one wins a prize. (Some adults dress up too).

The shower blocks are clean but a little too cold for my liking and the water is none adjustable so if you like really hot showers go into the private bathroom that has a bath and us the adjustable shower in there.

There is a laundrette on site along with a well stocked shop, games room and park.

The theme weekends are amazing value seeing you have up until 10pm to vacate your pitch. £35 for 2 night for upto 6 people and a car plus awning. They do get booked up really quick especially the Bonfire weekend as we have never managed to get a pitch then.

Love it here and will continue to go for a long long time.

Stayed here for three nights midweek which was great. Plenty clean and free hot water showers. The site is large with lots of trees which look great, however there in lies the problem, we selected our pitch under a pine tree which to cut a long story short weeped sticky stuff onto our caravan and car which in turn gave the wasps a field day, they were everywhere, so lesson learned we will try not to park under trees in the future. On a brighter note the caravan site is lovely, good shop with lots on offer, great walks round the site looking at all the different types of static and log cabins, a river runs along the edge of the site with loads of ducks and imagine our delight at seeing red squirrels. There is a lovely walk to the rear of the site that takes you to a ruin, worth doing. The site is near Penrith with loads of shops and eating places. We ventured into the Lake District and found it just too busy, no where to park and other half becoming grumpy so it was back to the tranquillity of the site. As the weather was really good we managed to book an extra night (Friday night) and it then became very busy with new tourers and campers arriving and of course the weekenders to their static homes, so if you like things quiet go during the week. This is the only site that I have visited that lets you arrive as early as 8am and leave as late as 10pm all in the price.

 Absolutely brilliant site!

The site had a lovely atmosphere with a good mix of tents and tourers, there are also some statics and lodges on site. The pitches were spacious and coped well with the rain we had while there. It is a very well kept site, with lots of huge hanging baskets and the grass is neat and tidy. We found it to be subtly lit at night, not too light but light enough for you to get to the loos without needing your own torch.

The facilities on site were excellent, the showers and loos were plentiful, always very clean and well stocked with plenty of loo rolls and hand soap. Showers nice and hot and FREE!

For the children there are four play areas on site and they were all very well maintained and thought out, something for tots and teens my kids who are 10 and 13 absolutely loved the parks. There is also a games field for ball games, frisbee playing etc plus an indoor games room (for rainy days) with ping pong table and video games again my two loved this facility. A BMX track is available for use too so if you have space in your car then take the kids bikes, unfortunately we didn't take them as we had no space, which was a shame as the site itself is perfect for bike riding.

We found the staff to be very friendly and attentive, every day we saw a warden checking for litter, but tbh people on the site were very good at not dropping it. The on site shop is brilliant, very well stocked with the usual groceries, plus camping equipment and souvenirs, ice creams and slush. I liked the fact that the shop prices seemed very reasonable and we used it quite a bit during our stay. There is also a wee pub on site that does meals and take away meals, we sat outside one evening for a dring as we had the dog.

There is a river that runs through the site with facilities for fishing and paddling and dinghy floating. There is some beautiful walks through the park and directly from the park alongside the river into the village of Askam which is very pretty, our dog really loved these walks and it was even better as it meant we didn't have to leave the site in the car for dog walking.

There is plenty of wildlife on the park we saw red squirrels, bunnies red deer and bats and lots of birds, it really is a beautiful place.

There is a KFC about a 5 min drive away, which came in handy and also a Morrisons, (the car park here does get very busy, so time your visit right)

We were booked to stay three nights, but had to leave a day early, I really couldn't believe it, when a day later in the post I recieved a credit note for the night we lost, which I thought was fantastic customer service!

We will definitely return here, we all enjoyed it so much, the kids only came back the tent for feeding times, the rest of the time they were playing in the parks. I really can't recommend it highly enough, if I were to be ultra critical the only thing I can think of is there is a light on the EHU unit, that couldn't be switched off and unfortunately we pitched our tent with the bedrooms closest to the EHU and the light did keep my OH awake. (although I quite liked the light)

As others have wrote this is a lovely well laid out site. Great for the kids with loads for them to do. Lovely walks from the site to the castle and next to the river. Toilets immaculate and plenty to go around, no queues. The only down side for us was the weather. It rained a bit everyday and nearly all the pitches are under trees so the rain drops were very noisy and non stop. But I would still go back.
