This is a lovely site, there is a mixture of Statics, Tourers & tents. From the moment you drive up to the gate until the time you leave the staff are really friendly & efficient. There are plenty of water points and chemical disposal points, if you are on the camping section it appears to be on a slope and is also furthest away from the amenity blocks. There are some lovely walks along the river or in the forest which the river runs along the side of, our dogs loved the walks. My only criticism would be the weekend we were there they seemed to be cramming tents in all around the touring pitches and because these pitches are hard standing the tents were pitched on the grass which meant they were very near to other outfits which could in my mind have been a fire hazard. We sat outside the on site pub & had a drink, they also serve food there and we had a takeaway one night which was reasonably priced. This is a site I would highly recommend

As with most other reviews for this site it is positive. After spending years in tents this was our first ever time in a touring caravan. From the moment we arrived we knew it was going to be good, the staff at the reception & the well stocked shop made us welcome & were very helpful. The Bar / Restaurant staff were friendly, the food & atmosphere was very good. Toilets & showers were very good & there was even a bathroom to use if you needed a soak after a day up the hills, only criticism was that you were allocated one toilet key so if you wanted to go when one of your party was already there you couldn’t! I don’t know why they have a key system as it is a long way from casual passers by. The pitches were amongst the trees so you didn’t feel as though you were in pretty little rows. There was plenty of good areas to walk from the site, along the river or through the woods to see the beautiful castle. The site is easy to get to being just a few min’s from the M6 it also a good location for touring around the Lakes. We will certainly be going back.

This is a fabulous site. We loved every minute of it so much so we are seriously considering using the park for a separate residential tourer. We have already made arrangements to do this possibly in 2008 or 2009. A beautiful site set in a very pleasant location next to a river, within one mile of the M6.

Our second visit to this site and will certainly go again. Beautiful setting amongst the trees with mostly fairly level pitches, on the touring caravan area. The pitches are hard standings, and I do mean hard. Rock pegs are a must, and a good hammer. That said there are plenty of toilet/shower facilities within easy reach and are warm and very clean. Lovely walks on and around the site with lots of wildlife. Look out for the red squirrels. Good play area for the kids. The shop is excellent with just about everything you could need and has a reasonable range of caravan/camping spares. The bar seemed popular, but we did not go in as we had our dog with us and they don't allow dogs in the bar. There is an outside seating area, which we did enjoy on our last visit, but this time it was a bit cold to sit outside. We did get a takeaway one evening which was very good but a bit pricey. One thing which really stood out on this site was the friendliness of the staff, who make you feel so welcome. Would definitely recommend.

We have just spent the weekend here. It is a lovely site, right by the river. The plots were spacious and well sited. The staff were pleasant and friendly and the shop on site sold everything we needed. We didn't use the club but it seemed fine. There were lots of very clean toilets, warm showers and even a bath in each block. However the toilet/shower blocks are unheated! As there was wind, hail, sleet, rain and snow over the weekend the very low temperature in there made them less inviting than we would have liked. Having said that we will definitely be going back - just in warmer weather.

Spent 3 nights at this site, first day of their season and we were the first in through the gates. This is a lovely site however I would imagine it will get busy later on in the season. Staff helpful and very plesent. Toilets spotless. Large site where there are good facillites fro kids as well as the dog walkers. Location- excellent. 2 miles from Penrith and close to motorway links.

Access to the site is via a long wooded drive way and although the site is teaming with wildlife it’s slightly let down by noise from the M6 motorway just over a mile away. The site is composed of mainly static and seasonal pitched caravans set amongst trees and it can look somewhat messy in the rain. Compared to the static and seasonal caravan pitch areas, the camping area is relatively small. The electrical hook up pitches are on a slight slope and to close together for my liking. The non electric tent pitches are on an even steeper slope. The grass is pretty thin in places with the occasional rock poking through, hence plenty of bent tent pegs. The camping area is also adjacent to two childrens playgrounds. For a young family its great as the children could play away from the tent, yet we could still see what they were doing. Two facility blocks are a short walk from the camping area, with each block having plenty of modern Toilets and Showers. A key access system and CCTV help to restrict access to the block. The squirrel inn has a bar and family room, with Sky TV for sports fans. They provide good quality food but with the usual high prices. The campsite shop is the best I have ever seen. It has all the usual items, plenty of camping and caravan stuff, the home baked cakes are excellent and the staff are friendly and polite. On balance we would go back.

Great site excellent value for money on the weekend deals. Site is great for family's or small children, 3 parks on site, lovely river where you are able to fish and see lots of ducks. Lovely walks on and around the site you will see lots of squirrels ! The toilets and showers are great lovely and clean and there is enough of the blocks on site. The bar on site is also very nice family room included. Great shop lots of choice. only down side if any for this site is it can get a bit crowed and the pines off all the trees get on your car and caravan. We will be going back to this site and would pass on information of this site on to friends.

We spent a very enjoyable weekend here, it was busy (site full) caters mainly for statics and long stay vans. All staff, residents and campers very friendly. We have two retriever dogs, who enjoyed a daily swim in the clean River Lowther, but they where disappointed that the dog walk was closed, and confused as numerous signs said go to dog walk for your poo poos. We had a lovely corner pitch, with some pine trees and red squirrels coming to visit. The toilet blocks were kept clean and there was always plenty of hot water. On the whole a very busy site, would we go again? definitely, but I will take my hammer drill to put the awning pegs in.

Just returned back from my first caravanning break from here. Had a wonderful time and weather. Just had trouble putting up my awning as I hadn't done it before and it hadn't come with instructions, very nice maintanence gentleman helped. I liked the site and I'm glad I asked about pitches, as I was given on arrival one under the pine trees, but asked if I could go by the play area which was good for me as I have two little ones. But it was on grass (rock hard) and slightly sloping, but I'd reccomend this area as it was really quiet when I was there and there is access to the walk through to the castle ruins, although the walk to the showers was quite a way, and tv/ phone signal difficult. The shop sells absoulutly everything, but the pub didnt do meals out of high season. I would return there.
