Just spent the Easter weekend at Cold Spring Farm with friends ( two tourers)' on a positive note the views are fantastic and the owners helpful but sadly that was it! The site is situated next to a boarding kennels with the dogs howling and barking from 7am till very late at night. The facilities on site are very basic I could not get any hot water in the shower even though I let it run a good 10 mins gave up in the end and used my caravan. The Elsan Point has a tap that doesn't work so you have to use the drinking water tap hose to rinse out you toilet cassette ( must be a health and safety issue there ) The site advertised fishing on site the pool was very difficult to access and had never been stocked with fish, the Owner couldn't remember the last time anyone used it a big disappointment for me and my mate as we had planned to fish while the wives went shopping in Buxton. The electric hook up could only have been 6 amp as when ever you had any 2 electrical items on the power would trip really annoying on cold nights. I thing the owners should review their charges and charge a more realistic price for the basics it provides or in this case not. Without the company of friends it would have been a very disappointing outing. Would not recommend or return in the future.

Stayed for 2 nights over the weekend as a group of 7. The layout of the campsite is tiered so we setup on the lowest tier which gives a lot of privacy and reduces noise upsetting other campers. The top areas are all easily accessible just the road to the bottom tier is a little steep. Cost was roughly £5:50 per person per night. The facilities were very basic but suitable, toilets were more or less clean although there wasn't any toilet roll for the first night, the owner brought some in for the following day. There are 3 shower cubicles which are outside the toilet area and used for both sexes so could get a queue, the water was difficult to get to the right temperature but was nice and hot and there is no charge for use unlike some other campsites.
Handy location just outside of Buxton, walkable if required but we were lazy and drove. Lots of daddy long legs about and got bitten a few times by bugs but that's to be expected outdoors.
Owner has two small dogs which are very friendly and came down to our campsite in the mornings, spotted dog mess on the floor once as the dogs do wander about freely but this was cleared up next time I had passed. Electric hookups for caravans and alike are only available in the top fields nearer to the toilet block.

We visited Cold Springs Farm in Buxton early spring last year the weather was OK. That's why we wanted to be close to a town so we could call in to good pubs and find good places to eat after a full day of walking in the High Peak.
This was a great weekend getaway lots of good wines and real ales well served and beautiful countryside.
The Camp site itself is basic, it's a no frills place but this is reflected in the price. Owners are friendly, showers are nice and hot, wash room for pots is dry and indoors which is good. Facilities are what we expected. Camping pitches are level. We cooked breakfast on the BBQ with Great views.
If you want a camping countryside retreat, close to Buxton town with all the luxuries (you can walk or drive if you don't have the time to walk) and back to the tent for life outdoors cuppa under the stars.
There are caravan pitches too if you want the views and don't want to share facilities.

Stayed at cold springs for 2 nights over the bank holiday weekend to test our new caravan out. When we arrived we found a spot and parked up, the weather was rubbish most of the weekend but cleared up a bit on the sunday.
As it rained a lot the drainage on site wasn't good at all as the mud was so slopey and as soon as you got out of the caravan your feet were an inch deep in water I'am so glad we didn't stay in our tent as it was very muddy.
I cant comment on the toilets or showers as we didn't use them but the husband said I wouldn't of liked them they just smelt a bit and was cold.
The owners were polite and friendly but didn't see them much as this is a working farm! Not very quiet as you are based next door to some kennels and dogs barking most of the day and night,
Overall the site is in a nice area over looking fields and farms about 5mins drive to the centre of buxton and pooles cavern which is an interesting place to visit.
Would return if the pitches were more graveled it would on been easier and a lot more cleaner.

The toilet's in the main block could have been cleaned and maintained through out the day, they looked dirty and wasn't well stocked.
Dogs where allowed to run around the camp leaving dog mess.
Pitch was ok pegs went in no problem but wasn't well lit when needing the toilet during the night.
Early hours in the morning we had to contend with the rooster and the dogs barking from the nearby kennels.
The lane that leads onto the farm had several pot holes could do with filling in.
Vending units didn't work and wasn't stocked.
Will not be going back to cold springs.

Stayed August Bank Holiday (very wet, very cold, very windy!).
This is a basic, rustic working farm campsite (although I saw very little in regards to the farm). This must be remembered when staying here and can be noticed by certain basic areas lacking such as daily cleaning of the showers/toilets and maintenance of site (1 shower was merely a dribble and came out scolding; also number of potholes in campsite track).
The negative points: No water taps around campsite so have to go to toilet block. Plane noises of the flight path were loud - as were car noises from road (however catty/kennels noises barely audible).
A proper track to continue down to lower level terraces would have been good especially during the wet weather on grass. Advanced warning by the owners about the wedding when booking would have been good, esp as the music went on until 1. 30am!
The positives: Price! £10pn for 2 with a tent. Close to Buxton (20-25 min walk, not 10-15 as they claim- also remember that it is on a hill). Nicely situated for walks and good views. Terraced plots are a nice feature. Great if you want cheap and cheerful.
Overall quite pleased with the campsite, if you want basic and pay basic prices you can't expect everything to be perfect. Location was good for those wanting to be near Buxton or walks.

Just spent a bank holiday Saturday at this site and despite the poor weather conditions and a very full visitor list we were made up with this site!
We used it for a stop over after a full day in Buxton and found it to be as previous reviews had stated. A medieval wedding was in full flow that night(no problem!) as they finished their celebrations by 12 midnight.
Pitches were level and pegs went in easily, no hard core 2' underground! but we were on upper tier and the cows in the shed were a pain at 4am (why were they in there at this time of year!?)Aircraft were no problem as was kennel.
A little more info as to on site facilities would be helpful ie. , use of family barn, extra toilets, fishing ponds and bus facilities.
May we suggest by providing a leaflet on arrival this would assist the camper. This would have been useful to us but now were being picky!.
All in all a great camping experience!

Rather windswept but you can't really blame the owners for the shape of Derbyshire and at least it kept the midges away.
Perfectly adequate but we got an earful for making a couple of ruts in the grass on leaving. It had been wet in preceding days apparently but we weren't told beforehand that there was anywhere we shouldn't park.
So with customer care like that we won't be going back.
Buxton is delightful and only a mile down the hill. A bit short of chips on a Sunday evening though but they do have cheap Pimms at the opera house.

We too were there for the Bank Holiday and it was wet and windy. Having a loo and shower on board saved the damp, muddy trek to the loos! Hard standings with EHU were available for about 10 units and were pleasantly almost level on the terraces.
We didn't notice any aircraft noise but that is probably the benefit of insulation in caravan / camper.
The entrance / exit onto the main road was a bit busy and access onto and off the site could be interesting with a big van as the route down to the site zigzags around the farm buildings, but we had no trouble.
Facilities were basic but what can you expect for a very reasonable price. Friendly welcome, including Diesel the dogs muddy paws!
Would definitely visit again as a great centre for exploring the Peaks and with the proximity of the town making shopping easy. Plenty of camping / outdoor shops in Bakewell.
The newly opened Monsal Trail for bikes and walking was not far away and made a great trip to Bakewell.
Just hope for better weather next time but this was a Bank Holiday in England!

This was only our 2nd time camping as a family with the 1st time being 2 years ago. After deciding to invest heavily in camping gear and a fortnight in Newquay in august we decided we wanted somewhere not to far from Doncaster to have a trial run. We chose cold springs farm after reading the reviews.
We found the location perfect for what we wanted, which was a day on the Tissington trail with bikes on board and a day at Carsington reservoir once again with the bikes. Buxton was a 20 minute walk away or 2 minutes in the car.
The toilet and wash room facilities although dated were fine and in good working order. It was a really quiet weekend with only a hand full of other campers but we had a really good time and the views were amazing.
We didn't see much of the owners after our initial meet but that wasn't a problem, we like to be left to our own devices.
It cost us £20 a night for 4 of us with EHU, a real bargain and we would have no hesitation in going back. Cold springs farm is a really good quiet camp site in a great location for travelling Derbyshire
