We've just returned from a fab weekend at this campsite. It is one mile outside of Buxton, an easy walk. The views are stunning as was the drive up from where we live. We found this campsite with no problems at all and were met by a member of the family that runs the campsite and we were told that we could pitch anywhere we fancied.
The pitches are in a tiered style with the EHU's on the top level nearest to the toilet blocks. The other pitches are all levelled off but drop down towards a lovey pond. The toilet blocks, as stated in other reviews are very basic and could do with an upgrade but there's free showers with loads of hot water.
This campsite is next door to a kennels/ cattery but to be honest this was not a problem at all and we didn't even hear the dogs/cats, as some other reviews mentioned that they were a problem where noise was concerned.
This site is under the flight path for Manchester airport but again, the planes are not even noticeable at all.
Loads of space for the kids to run about, they loved to see the hens walking about as it is a working farm.
Overall, great little find,a real back to basics camping experience- we'll definitely be going back!

Stayed here over the May bank holiday for 3 nights.
The first thing that hits you is the fantastic view, as said before the site is situated on a hill-side overlooking Buxton. It`s been landscaped into 4 tiers which are very flat and well kept other than a bit of sheep droppings, the sheep do wander around the site when they`re feeling brave and the lambs were beautiful.
Pricing is a bit confusing but we were simply charged £5 pppn (under 5`s free the only exception). The site is good value at this price.
Once we were shown our pitch (which was ample size for our tent and 2 cars, the xl tents would be a little tight) we were left to our own devices, the site is very laid back.
The toilets are basic but always clean and well stocked. Yes the floor could probably do with some sort of coating (it`s concrete and cracked in places) and the roof leaked in the odd place. But there was always plenty of hot water and as said before the showers are to die for. And free! (there are only 3 but 2 more in the group toilets, we used these as there were no groups in that weekend).
If you are a proper camper these facilities are more than adequate, if you`re expecting hotel-like bathrooms book a hotel.
Buxton is a lovely town with plenty to offer and only a mile away. There are also good walks nearby.
As for the noise I cannot understand anyone complaining about planes / dogs / main road. The main road is the other side of the farm, about 50 yards from the top tier, you can barely hear the planes even when you can see them flying over and yes there is a kennels next door but we never heard barking once, maybe we were lucky? The only noise on this site was one morning the sheep were a little curious but they didn`t hang around long. There are worse ways to be woken.
As usual we took plenty of insect repellent. We never used it once ! Dont think i`ve ever said that on a camping trip yet.
All in all I love this site. There are not many sites I go back to, I like to try new areas but this one I will definitely visit again. And again.

We stayed for the May Bank Holiday.
The site is nice, but it's on a hill and the wind was very strong (luckily our tent stood up to the wind).
We were charged £20 a night for two adults and two children (our third child was free as he's 5) - according to their website we should have paid £12 + 1.50 per child, so £15 a night - bit annoyed that she upped the prices but as we had friends who had already pitched, we had no choice.
The shower block is in a barn and not very family friendly. The cubicles are small and a big grim to be honest.
We as a family ended up being put the first night by DoE. and the second night by a group of 30 18-30's.
We won't be back to this site I'm afraid

As usual very welcoming, we could pitch up almost anywhere, we were told that D of E were on the bottom field so advised not to pitch down there which I thought was very good.
Toilets and showers are basic but are clean, soap and toilet rolls are provided which is good. There are lovely views when looking out of your tent, love the new puppy and diesel is still as friendly. But the sheep did wake us up at 5.30am but expected from a working farm next time I'll remember my earplugs.
It's only 1 mile from Buxton town centre which is good for the shops and pubs and the pub meals are good and reasonably priced.
Cheap and cheerful A1

Nice little site, more geared towards tents than caravans, only 7 pitches for tourers, although all 7 have electric hook up and are hard standings
The site is part of a working farm but the owners are very friendly and helpful as are some of the livestock, the farm cockerel and 2 hens visited our 'van on both mornings of our stay
The toilet and shower facilities are a tad basic but perfectly usable and clean with plenty of hot water
Buxton and all it has to offer ie Bars, eateries, shops etc are only a few minutes walk away, took me and the missus about 15 minutes (1 way)but we were in no hurry. Castleton, matlock and ashbourne are also only short drives away as is chatsworth house
The views around the sight are stunning in most directions.
Although we enjoyed the site as a whole, there were a couple of little annoyance's which could have been bother some on a longer stay, 1/there is a boarding kennel right next to the site and at the time of our visit they had some very vociferous guests that were whining and barking at all hours of the day and night.
2/the site is right under the flight path for manc' airport and at times the noise of over head planes was very loud, (annoyed my wife more than me as I was fascinated watching the planes pass so low over head)
3/ the site is right by the side of a very busy main road and at times the road noise was a bit intrusive.
Even given the little annoyances I would recommend this site to anyone,as it is really good value for money, it cost us just £25.00 for a 2 night stay inc electric and awning and an ideal place to use as a base to explore the area from.
We'll definitely be visiting cold springs farm again

As I said in my last review that we would return and we did. We came back yesterday after having a fantastic week at this site. Although we did have a few rainy days it didn't spoil our holiday.
We love this site and no doubt we will be returning again.
As before this is a basic camp site and that is why it is so cheap.
Buxton is a wonderful area with wonderful views.
Chatsworth House is a must, we took a picnic with us as we went round the house and the gardens this time. The house takes about 2hrs to walk round.
So if you are looking for a wonderful site to stay in Buxton choose this site, but please remember this is just a basic campsite and is well worth the money. We paid £12.50 per night which included electric hook up. You wouldn't find this cheaper anywhere else.
Thank you to the owners for a wonderful time, see you again soon. If I could I would rate this campsite more than 10 on everything

I have just returned from my best ever camping trip staying at Cold Springs Farm. They are one of the very few campsites to take group bookings. We had about 25 tents and 2 caravans in our party. The children had an amazing time with all the animals and being allowed to hang around in the barn when it poured down with rain. The views were beautiful and we will have to go back again as we did not get time to explore the area! We set off fireworks and chinese lanterns and had no complaints!
The showers were great and always had hot water, toilets always had toilet paper. Vending machines were very handy.
The communication and hospitality of these farmers was second to none I would highly recommend anyone using this site.
The only single complaint from any of my group was the difficulty in finding the site (but it was dark and raining).
As for the payment we were more than happy to pay £5 pppn it was worth every penny.
P.S. There was not a single midgy in sight all weekend

Cold Springs Farm has lovely views, flat pitches, friendly hens, and the best shower head I've ever found on a campsite! We had a wet but enjoyable weekend, and the kids loved playing in the stream.
However, the pricing issue needs resolving and quickly! We were charged £1.50 per child but only after reminding the owner that this is what is stated on their website - he wanted to charge us £5 per person over the age of 5.
To make up for this three of our group of 5 were charged an extra £5 per night for pitching larger than 4-berth tents. The owner seemed embarrassed and confused by his own arbitrary pricing policy, and this really coloured our view of this otherwise adequate campsite. My family of 4 paid £36 for two nights, which we felt was steep for the pretty basic facilities available.
Sort out the pricing and we will consider returning!

Back in my review in June 2009, I said we would return. We have twice this year, 2010. Both have been wonderful.
Cold Springs Farm campsite is a gem. Apply all of my previous comments - June last year - to the present. Its a very friendly place, with stunning views, is great VFM and is very close to Buxton and Peak District attractions. Its a 25 minute walk into Buxton along a pleasant, leafy route.
We have been very lucky with the weather; the two visits this year have had superb sunshine/hot/blue sky, and this site and its views are quite lovely in the sunshine. The Goyt Valley in front is a picture.
Different (?) places to visit. Up the Cat and Fiddle road (Buxton to Macclesfield A537). Stop at the C & F, and take in the view: Wow! The Cheshire plain. Jodrell Bank is clear as day. Manchester Airport is visable, and North Wales and Merseyside viewable on a clear day. Turn off the A537 past the C & F, down an unmarked side road to Macclesfield Forest. Fabulous, unspoilt countryside, and with several reservoirs and stopping points. Bird life galore. A pub at the far end of the reservoir looked fantastic.
Buxton has a good shopping centre, with multiple supermarkets and attractions. The website to peruse is

A visit to the Home and Colonial olde worlde store in central Leek is an experience. Food, but different. Its a real Tardis, and VFM bargains galore. My mother reckons they used to be an original chain store. I think she means in her Millwall days in the 1930's! Check out

We enjoy an evening out in Buxton, which has a good atmosphere. The Old Clubhouse is a marvellous place. See

Right next to the Opera House.

The Eagle was visited in Market Place, where we watched the Uruguay v Ghana penalty shootout. As for England.
The Kings Head is also superb.

The Sun Inn is a must, and right in the old centre of Buxton

However.
I cannot understand some recent negative comments about Cold Springs campsite. Look better in the photographs? I cannot agree with that. The dogs? Two Staffies, both of whom are incredibly friendly. The toilets and smell? They are perfectly adequate, as are the showers. If you want luxury accomdation, I suggest you stay in a hotel, and pay for it! As for the prices, specifically children, look in the website for the site
It clearly states prices in there, including for children. Children up to 5 go free, and 6 to 10 are £1.50 per night. It couldn't be clearer. People really should go by the most accurate information available, not hearsay.
I may have some sympathy if you have multiple children in the 11 to 16 age group. Extra 'adults' are charged at £4 per night, as clearly stated. So I cannot understand how a fellow camper was charged £5 per night per child? There isn't an option for that.
Perhaps the owners could review their policy there, if necessary. A group of 2 adults and multiple children (2 or 3) could have a reduced rate?
In the words of General MacArthur in WW2, 'I will return'. Again, in our case.
Do note: the site do not allow dogs.

Stayed at this campsite from 02/06/2010 till 05/06/2010. When we arrived we were greeted by the most spectacular views we have ever seen. It is a 3 tier campsite and also has a hardstanding area for Caravans. There are 5 Showers with plenty of hot water and free and clean. The toilets are clean and supplied with plenty of toilet roll. With in a mile radius of town are all the shops you need. A good central base for plenty of places to visit, which include Caverns, Gardens, Nature Walks, Adventure Activities and Manor Houses.
Left alone to get on with what we what to do, plenty of farm animals on site to keep the children amused so long as you don't mind the early morning call from the cockerels.
We have already booked to return to this site again in August, looking forward to returning.
