Just got home from a three night stay at Cold Springs Farm with my husband and 2 children aged 12 & 7. We went mid week and the site had lots of room for us to pick our speck. I loved the views and the way the site is set out on 4 different levels.
The toilets and showers are pretty basic but spotlessly clean. The showers are free and there is plenty of hot water. The children loved the vending machines which sold snacks, cans of pop and hot tea/coffee etc.
A cockrel, 2 hens and 3 sheep wander daily around the site which our youngest child found very entertaining. There is no playground on the site but we didn't miss it as there was more than enough room to play ball games with the kids.
The owners seemed very friendly and helpful.
We went into Buxton and found various places to stock up on supplies (if needed) and the Pavillion Gardens is a five minute drive (or 30 mins walk) away from the site. This is a great place to take a picnic and let the kids play on the park etc. There is even an indoor baths for those rainy days.
We have been camping for 3 years and have only visited 1 site more than once but I am sure we will return to Cold Springs again soon.

Had a wonderful week long stay at Cold Springs which was well worth £4.50 per person per night. The toilet and shower facilities were superb as they were newly modernised and cleaned at least once a day. There was plenty of space to pitch a tent and you could choose wherever you pleased. The atmosphere was very friendly and the couple who ran the site were most helpful to us. There was plenty of room for washing up with three large sinks in a little annexe and washing up liquid was also provided. It was a lovely quiet location with stunning views overlooking Buxton and definitely worth a visit in the future.

Friendly and relaxed. Good views and fab showers. Just had one night but turned up unannounced and found a spot for two-person tent and car, no bother.
Good facilities block, including common room. Paid in the morning, only £4.50 for one person. The couple who, I assume, own the place sold me a cup of tea, a slice of toast and piece of melon. They don't normally sell food but I didn't have a cooker with me and it was much appreciated.
Great base for walking and biking. Will be back with family.

We booked our pitch a few weeks back requesting EHU, (4 adults + 12 & 2 year old). On arrival we were told we could basically pitch where we wanted. Not convinced we had a spot reserved but we got sorted no probs on the top tier with EHU. Really friendly site and got some sound tips from other campers as this was our début outing. We found the fact that there were no pitch limitations brilliant as we were unsure exactly how much room we needed for our Hartford XL. Obviously the site becomes quieter after 10pm but still plenty of people sat outside their tents having a drink and chatting, all very relaxed. We also took two cars and this was no problem. Facilities were great, 3 showers, and toilets well stocked, plenty of room for washing up and a vending machine plus drinks machine available 24 hours. I didn't see a specific playground but plenty of room for kids to enjoy themselves. Site is situated about 1 mile from Buxton centre although there is quite a hill on the return journey! No pub/shop nearby if this is what you are looking for. We will definitely go back and would highly recommend this site.

On arriving at Cold Springs Farm we were greeted by a friendly oldish lady, who basically took our money off us and told us to pitch up anywhere. We pitched up next to one of about 9 electric hook ups on the farm. There was plenty of room for us and our friends so we were able to pitch next to each other. All the electric hook ups are on the top tier with a further 3 tiers without electric. The place itself for our 2 girls (9&7)was spot on, with plenty of farm animals roaming about and loads of space for badminton, frisby etc. At one point I saw a stoat rolling 1 of the many eggs you see around the farm! The cockerel does get a little annoying at about 4.30 am but hey ho!
The on site facilities are adequate with 3 power showers and believe me if its cold outside you will not want to get out of them. There is a drinks and chocolate machine, plenty of space to wash pots and a sitting area upstairs.
Buxton is exactly 1 mile down the road, but is a bit of a hike coming back up!
All in all we had a great time and would definitely go back even though the weather was absolute pants.

Lovely and relaxed campsite overlooking Buxton, you can choose your pitch. Good clean facilities with plenty of hot water, loo roll and soap it never ran out. The views are really pretty. There is a bit of a walk downhill to get to Buxton making the return walk a bit of an effort. No campshop on site. There was some noise from the working Farm and the dog kennals but this did not bother us at all the dogs only bark for 10mins at a time. We will visit again.

Even though Cold Springs Farm wasn't our first choice for a one night camp last weekend we ended up here by default! (The other site wasn't what we expected!)But we were so glad that things worked out the way they did as Cold Springs Farm is a gem!
We arrived at the working farm and were shown by the lady (now known to be Ellie!) to the 3rd tier down to pitch our tent. We'd almost finished when Syd (the owner/farmer) drove up and said that a school had booked this pitch but after a few words everything was sorted and there was still plenty of room for the school to pitch next to us!
Cold Springs Farm is built on the side of a hill with beautiful views over the valley and they have obviously spent a lot of money landscaping the site into tiers; some with hook-ups for caravans, the rest just basic well kept grassed areas.
Our party was a total of 3 tents but this site mainly caters for large groups such as the Duke of Edinburgh awards or school groups but this suited us down to the ground as we knew we would not have to have 'lights out' by 11pm! Don't get me wrong, we're not young teenagers, we're actually grand-parents but our whole ethos of coming camping is to enjoy the outdoor life and to chill after a hard week at work and we do this by sitting round our chimenea (which was allowed seeing as it doesn't burn the grass), having a few glasses of wine and putting the world to rights!
The facilities we thought were fantastic; exceptionally clean with plenty of soft loo roll (not Izal, for those who are old enough to remember that nightmare!)and lots of lovely handwashes and even paper towels for drying our hands! As we only went for one night and had showered prior to arriving we didn't use the wash facilities but they looked nice enough! There was even 2 vending machines which I thought was a brilliant idea with everything from soup to bars of chocolate, to cold drinks to snacks and they were very reasonably priced!
The site is situated about 3/4 of a mile out of Buxton which is a fab Victorian spa town with plenty to see and do but take note that the walk downhill is not an issue but as for uphill. You decide!
All in all this site was just what we were looking for and we will return as much as possible. Syd even flagged us down before we left to ask us what we had thought and to apolgise for the earlier confusion regarding our pitch which he didn't have to do and to tell us a little more about the site. Cold Springs Farm is a lovely site run by lovely people.

We spent our bank holiday weekend camping at Cold Springs Farm, having booked 2 or 3 weeks previously. We specifically booked in advance as we have a large van and a dog, and we know some campsites do not allow either. This was not a problem, we were told both were welcome.
However on arrival at the site we were told that we could not park the van on the campsite. This was not too much of a problem, as there was a car park. Our friends who we were camping with had also been told they could not park on the site (They had small cars) however there seemed to be many other cars parked on the site. One rule for one and another for everyone else perhaps? NOt sure.
But then another problem - dogs. Having opened the van to get the money to pay, the owner saw our dog sitting on the seat and proceeded to tell us that dogs were not allowed on bank holidays. (Why only bank holidays??)Having driven for 2 hours to the site we were now had a problem. We had specifically asked if dogs were welcome and we had been specifically told yes. Eventually the owner accpeted that the dog would have to stay, but said she was not resposible if her 3 staffordshire bull terriers got into our tent, as they don;t like other dogs. But yet again, the following day we came across many other dog owners with their dogs. We were beginning to feel the owner had something against us!
As we pitched our tent we felt extremely irritated by the welcome we had received. Having read such good reviews on this website, we had expected a warm welcome. Unfortunately what we got was a rather rude welcome. The phrase 'its not what you say, but the way that you say it' springs to mind.
Despite this we had a lovely weekend camping. The facilities on the site were clean and well maintained, although not adequate for the number of campers, having only 4 showers. Buxton was beautiful and the site is ideally located to take advantage of what the town has to offer.
We will be returning to Buxton to camp, however we will not be returning to Cold Springs Farm. We will seek out a warmer welcome elsewhere.

Just been for one night to Cold Springs Farm in Buxton, It was fab. We had cold winds and rain. But who cares. Beautiful area perfectly situated within easy reach of Buxton town centre, and surrounding towns. Toilet blocks were really nice, vending machines, music playing. Showers 1st class, washing machine and dryer! upstairs theres a room with seats to sit in n have a drink and socialise. The cockrels I found amuzing, maybe not at half 4 in the morning but hey its a working farm its to be expected. They call to see you in the morning and see whats for breakfast. Owners really nice, and the friendly dog. Good views and an all round nice camp. Will definitely use it again maybe next time with my bigger unit and electric hook up. For £4.50 per person it was good value, easy to find follow A53 from Buxton past 2 small roundabouts the its on the A5004 past the hospital, I found it easy and I'm not very good at goegraphy.

I visited Cold Springs Farm on the August Bank Holiday weekend. Having phoned many sites weeks beforehand and being told that they had no vacancies I was unsure that a pitch would be available as the proprietor of CSF didn't want to accept an offered deposit. Fortunately there was plenty of room on my Friday arrival and I was offered a cracking pitch with a great view of the surrounding hills and Buxton itself. The site, built on a hillside has large terraces mostly giving pretty flat pitches, the ground readliy accepted my tent pegs with a little "persuasion" with the mallet. By Saturday afternoon the site had pretty much filled up with new arrivals, to the point that one small tent had pitched on the cusp of a connecting slope between terraces. This didn't look too comfortable to me. The facillities where adequate, but with only 3 (good & hot ) shared showers available, it was the early birds who avoided the enevitable morning queues. The gents toilets are a strange arrangement , having only 1 hand basin next to the urinals meant that anyone needing to wash their hands would have to either wait or go without if somebody was having a hand wash/ cleaning their teeth, strangely one cubicle had a hand basin inside which would obviously become unavailable if the W.C was being used. There are 3 pot sinks for cleaning dishes etc, beware though that if the hot water tank is full and heated, the hot water is very hot indeed. Unfortunately 2 of the sinks each had a tap handle missing so if you don't "bag" the middle sink, take some pliers to turn these taps on/off, At this busy weekend there didn't seem a lot of space for children to run around etc, but even though full, the site didn't feel cramped with designated pitch boundaries. I only heard the kennels next door at times I guess was feeding times, so no problems there. Far more of a "pain" was the pesky cockrells anouncing a new day next to my tent at 0530 am ! A small price to pay for a good little site with adequate facillities, cracking views, friendly staff and only 1 mile ( downhill ) to Buxton and its attractions. My recommendation is to go, I know I'll be back soon.
