In my opinion the toilet block is appalling, yes it does smell strongly of jeyes fluid which seems to be poured daily onto the porous concrete floor, but this does not make it clean (just fume filled).
Two of the toilet cubicles had dirt on the walls which was not cleaned off during the two days we were there. The cubicles are also so tiny that you have to reverse into them (I am an averagely sized person).
The washing up block is generally run down and so dingy that we didn't want to use it. I didn't summon up the courage to take a shower, the block was dark and males and females shared the same facilities which put me off.
The site is situated next to a busy main road that did quieten down a bit during the night but was hugely noisy from 6am, mind you by then we had already been awake for a couple of hours due to the crowing of several cockerels and from a lot of banging and clattering.
We kept our children well away from the 'friendly farm dog' mentioned in other posts. The dog may well be harmless but it wasn't your usual border collie!
The location is good, not far from Buxton where there is a good selection of restaurants and take aways. The views from the site are pretty but the site looks much better on its website than in real life.
With regard to prices, the website stated £1.50 per child but on arrival we were told that this was incorrect and the real price is £5 per child! This was a considerable difference for us given that we have 3. I do not consider £25 per night for non EHU good value at all!

We stayed at this campsite over a busy May bank holiday. Overall it was good, with some nice views and within a five minute drive of Buxton. The site itself is arranged into tiered strips which were quite narrow; consequently we didn't have a huge amount of space around our tent, and the cars driving on and off site came quite close to our pitch, so I couldn't really relax when the children were playing outside.
The showers and toilets were fine, but by the end of the weekend they were pretty dirty and could have done with a clean. The toilet roll ran out during the afternoon each day and was only replaced the following morning (although in fairness, I think the rolls were being taken away by other campers). The showers were nice and hot. The washing up facilities were spacious with large sinks, but again could have done with a bit of a clean over the course of the weekend. There was a dog on site as others have said, but it did no harm. There were also some lovely chickens who came each morning to share breakfast with us.
All in all, I would probably return here, but not on a busy weekend as I felt the cleanliness suffered a bit. I would also park on one of the lower tiers for a bit of extra space and less site traffic.

Just spent 5 nights at this campsite with lovely views over Buxton and the surrounding hills. The showers were the hottest I have ever come across and they were free. The facilities are basic but meet a campers requirements.
The owners are friendly and helpful and visits from the gang of chickens, cockerels and a duck made you feel great and they love to be fed and this made it extra special for my son.
Will definitely be back to this campsite and it is great value for money being £12.50 per night for 2 adults and 1 child with electric hook up.

My husband, myself, and two children stayed at this site from 19th nov to 22nd. We only stayed here last minute, due to the site we had booked at Keswick had flooded,(this was the weekend that Cumbria had the bad floods.) When I phoned, the Owner didn't give any details, and so the only idea we had of this site was from previous reviews on here. The Weather was, and had been wet all week, but the owner said to pitch anywhere, but appeared put out when I said we would be arriving about 8pm, she said she would prefer us to arrive in daylight as there were no lights, fairly difficult as it goes dark early.
As previously stated, a small sign on the brick wall, and we overshot, and had to come back to find it on foot. Not the best road layout, and large rocks had been placed by the edge. We chose our pitch, all seemed to be grass. Manoeuvring into place proved difficult and we were becoming stuck in mud. We finally pitched for the first night half on the track.
On inspection the next morning we found the last two pitches on the top level were harder standing (they looked like part of a disused track), so we moved there.
The rest of the weekend was great, we walked into Buxton, there was plenty going on, as it was the Christmas lights turn on, they had a Beer festival, and an indoor fair, even Father Christmas, and The Ice Queen. We found everyone extremely friendly, and taxi back to the site only cost £3.
We appreciate this weekends weather probably was extreme, but this site is open all year round. They need to increase their hard standing areas, and improve drainage, we expected mud, but not to be stuck in it! We possibly would go back to this site, but mainly due to its location near Buxton.

This is a lovely basic campsite. We have been twice & plan to visit again next year, we are even holding our wedding reception there!
The owners are lovely & friendly. It is not over commercialised. The toilets & facilities are kept very clean & the showers are marvellous after a busy day.
The views & surrounding area are spectacular. I know from talking to the owners they have loads of plans for the site.
A playpark would be brilliant but our girls just loved exploring.
The only down point is it does need a bigger sign.

Had a lovely weekend at Cold Springs
It's a quirky little place.
The facilities are a mixture of very modern excellent units (toilets/showers) in a very basic setting (old bare barns). There is no pampering here so if you like your comforts, then this is not the place to go.
There are 2 separate sets of toilets and showers. The ones in the group area are much better and the showers (power showers) are fantastic in terms of performance. The toilets and showers are housed in the most basic of surroundings though with just whitewashed breeze block walls, bare pipes,no mirrors, or tiling, or hand dryers or even soap (in one of the toilets).
Toilet paper was supplied and was replaced
There is an undercover washing up area with large ceramic sinks. No plastic washing up bowls. So bring your own if you need them.
The hot water in this site is plentiful.
The drinking water tap outside the toilets sprays everywhere in different directions. You have to develop the knack of filling your bottles.
There are 2 washing machines and upstairs rooms over the facilities with games and sofas. There is also another large room as part of the group area with vending machines (hot/cold drinks and snacks).
It is a cheap site if there are just 1 or 2 of you. But as a family of 4 we didn't think 20 quid a night without ehu was exactly cheap to be honest.
However
The things that makes this place so great (and which totally made up for any negatives above) are:
That you can pitch anywhere.Particularly if you don't want ehu which is located on the top tier.
It is in a absolutely fantastic location for walking. The Goyt valley is just next door plus you have Buxton just down the hill. It's in a good place to explore the peaks in general.
Lovely tiered site overlooking beautiful valley
You are left to your own devices.Owners very laid back.
Kids loved the 'play' rooms with jigsaws and paper for drawing
The chickens roaming around. Also rabbits and sheep
It's peacefulness. The tiered aspect also means that you cannot even hear other people higher up on other levels. We pitched on the second to bottom tier and we hardly saw anyone else.We had just countryside all around.
Would I pay 20 quid for such basic facilities again? You bet :-)

Just been to Cold Springs farm with 8 of my 18 year old friends and had an amazing time!
It was one of the best campsites I have been to and was only £5 a night!
The showers were warm and the toilets were decent, evethough they ran out of toilet roll, the showers didn't work on the last day and there were lots of flies in there!
There were recycling facilities for cans and glass, which we filled up!
We were noisy past 2am in the mornings but the campsite was quite empty and we were in the bottom field so nobody could really hear us!
Buxton was closer than I thought from reading the rest of these reviews, you had to walk up a small hill on the way back, and there was plenty to do in Buxton. We went swimming, hung out in the huge park, looked round the shops and the shoppin centre, and there was an iceland and a co-op. We also ate out in the local pubs which were cheap and cheerful we got 2 meals for a tenner! or a pint and a pie for a tenner, which were both good deals.
There is a cattery and kennels at the top of the site so you can hear the dogs barking in the morning if you pitch your tent too near to that, but we were at the bottom and couldn't hear a thing!
The only major problem of the trip was the midges as there were millions! Luckily we took a bbq with us so we lit that every night to sit round and keep them away!
Overall was a really good 3 nights and would go back again =D It was worth every penny we paid for it, just make sure you have your bug spray and toilet roll!

We loved the views and the easy walk into Buxton. The site is easy to miss, so a bigger sign would be helpful. The facilities are adequate, showers nice and hot and free. We were a little put off by the kennels next door and the cockerels, next time we will take ear plugs!

A well laid out site, with good basic facilities at a bargain price.
Views are excellent and is local to Buxton, but the walk back up 'long hill' would be too much for some.
Reviews said there may be a problem. Insects ate us alive, had to stay inside tent once sun went down. No amount of insect repellent or citronella candles could help. (Early evening barbecue smoke helped to keep them at bay at first).
Sat night was bad, but most people left during Sunday, so we we the main dish on their Sunday night menu!
Would not return to this site for that reason only
If you have to venture out on the site after dark (to the shower, toilet etc), wear long trousers, long sleeves and a hat, take a fly swat too. And bite cream for the morning after!
Everything else was just as we hoped for.

We have just returned from a long weekend staying in our tent at Cold Springs farm. On arrival the weather was awful with heavy rain that had been falling for a couple of days. We were welcomed by the owners who were really friendly and helped us to find a pitch that was not too muddy or waterlogged.
After pitching our tent we sat and admired the views which were really lovely, over Buxton and the peaks. The facilities here are extremely clean and well kept although a pair of flip-flops are recommended for the showers as the concrete floor is a little rough. The showers were lovely with really good pressure and lots of hot water. The toilets were very clean and it was so nice to have good quality loo paper which was replenished at regular intervals along with hand soap and paper towels.
The resident alarm clock (cockerel) got us up nice and early every day and the owners friendly Dogs paid us a few visits whilst we were there. All in all this is a lovely place to stay and the owners are lovely people. This is a working Farm and people should be aware of this when booking. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and plan to return in the near future.
A really good place to visit is Pooles cavern in Buxton as this is a lovely tour and not at all hard going. Anyone who is intending to visit the Blue John Mine should be very aware that this tour is VERY hard work with steep uneven and slippery steps all the way down (300ft), this is also the way back out and is extremely hard.
