Like other reviews I can see why this site is the perfect stop over on a long journey. Don't misunderstand that statement because this site is fantastic but perhaps just a little caught between the Cotswolds and the forest of dean.

So many footpaths nearby but many overgrown and underused, people obviously stick to the more obvious walking attractions west and east. Newest itself is easy walking distance and has everything you need if a little tired looking, great butcher/deli though.

Site itself is lovely and really homely. Would definitely recommend and value for money too.

We visited the site for a long weekend, on arrival we were greeted by the owner who was very helpful and pointed us in the direction of our pitch.

The pitch was level and well maintained and hedgerows give welcome protection should the wind pick up.

The toilet and shower block were lovely and clean with plentiful hot water, and the large shower tray was great, nice touches with hand towels and soap at the sinks.

Great location and great site to explore the Forest of Dean and further into the Brecon Beacons.

This site is on our list that we will visit again

Also we had two of our dogs with us and we're made to feel really welcome.

Thanks for a great weekend

Booked here last minute after leaving an unsatisfactory site, a really nice welcome everything was explained we were given our pitch number in the adult only field.

Facilities:

Shower and toilet block clean and some lovely little touches proper towels and good quality hand wash and hand lotions. Problem being only 2 toilets and 1 shower in both ladies and gents this became a problem for my husband, there were 4 people in front of him to shower and remember this is June and a weekday in August it must be a nightmare he used the family bathroom with 1 toilet and 1 shower. He said the water was hot and there was plenty of it.

Rubbish areas: there are 2 with crude recycling bins.

We walked into Newent along the country lane, no footpaths and it's was about a 30 min walk each way.

No shops are pubs etc nearer.

Would we go back I don't think we would.

This is a beautiful, small, quiet site. Beginning with the few negatives, pitches aren't as big as some other sites and there is only one shower per gender. However the shower is lovely with great pressure, a push-button that lasts a good 20 seconds each press, nice temperature etc. The amenities block is laid out rather like a house, in that the bathrooms are not dissimilar to what you might have at home and there's also a kitchen with microwave, mini oven, kettle, coffee maker, washing machine, sink, iron etc.

A lovely feature of this site is that there's no set check in or check out time. So you can arrive or leave at your leisure. We were even encouraged to stay around on our day of departure. We stayed with a group of friends using four pitches in total on the family field. This is mostly flat, the grass is kept immaculately and nobody will be far from the toilets because it's not a large field. The field is lined by high hedges which keep the worst of the wind out. Fire baskets are available with wood also for sale for those nice camping evenings.

There's a little 'honesty box' with locally grown eggs which are superb. And also a charity box in the bathroom with a few snacks. The co-op at Newent isn't far away with Gloucester and Tewkesbury reasonably drives away for supplies or a day out.

Site staff are very friendly, the site is very child-friendly though without any specific facilities for play. However there's lots of grassy space to run around, play games etc.

It is worth noting that the site has recycling facilities for glass, card, plastic bottles & tin cans.

So this isn't a huge site with leisure facilities but it is a lovely place to spend a night or two if you're in the area or to spend longer if you're camping with friends or want to explore the area. Thoroughly recommended.

Just to confirm everything that is said below - beautifully maintained site with immaculate toilets and shower - although there was only one of each we never had to wait but the site was not particularly busy so this may be a problem when full.

Newent is a nice little town with a nice selection of pubs, restaurants and shops - good ales in the George but average food and very good ales in Cobblers micropub but watch out for the limited opening hours - walking in town is fine along the public footpath.

We will go again.

This is our 3rd visit to this site and not the last. It's a spotless site, well tended and the owners are laid back, there are site rules but they're not beating them into you with a big stick.

The gate onto the lane takes you to walks down into the orchard, Newent is about 1. 2 miles away with ample shops. Weston's Cider is about 6 miles and well worth a visit for the tour and. CIDER!. I'll Be Back.

Just returned from this little gem of a site. First impressions of the site were - quite and well maintained. We were there for a celebratory birthday and had booked the whole of the family field.

Pitches are large and grass is very well maintained. The owners were so friendly and relaxed, didn't mind us erecting a gazebo.

Nothing was too much trouble. I forgot my shower towels and tee towels, not a problem, 3 towels and 2 tee towels sent down to me free of charge. Newent town approx 5 min drive with a fairly large co-op supermarket amongst other shops in a high street - some friends of ours brought some meat from the local butcher, very good quality.

Will definitely be returning to this lovely well kept friendly site.

We came across this site by simply trawling the net for sites within a 50 minute drive of home that we could easily get to on a Friday evening after work. We were very impressed with this site. The gardens are well maintained and the pitches clean and attractive. Lovely rural setting surrounded by market gardens etc.

It was easy to get to. The site was quiet and relaxed. Mind you, we were on the Adults only side. This is on the left as you enter, the family side is on the right. This side looked very different to the adult side. If you are an adult who wants a quiet site, I recommend the Adults field.

My complainants are few and minimal. Firstly, the access to each field would be difficult for a large double axle caravan. Secondly, the site only had one toilet block with 2 toilet cubicles and one shower cubicle for the whole site. This was probably not enough. The toilets were clean with nice touches. The towels were a nice touch but frankly they needed changing by the end of the day. I am not sure that they were.

After everything though, would we go again? That would have to be a definite yes. The site is beautiful, the owners nice and approachable but hard to find when it came to paying!. No arrival or departure times is great on a nice day. I would highly recommend this site. Definitely worth a visit.

We have just returned from a Bank Holiday weekend break at this lovely campsite - it's a well maintained site, with clear adult and family pitching areas. The lady who greeted us was lovely, and generously lent us towels when I discovered I'd left ours at home.

The nearest shops, pubs and cafes are about a 30 min walk across a public footpath, but it is an easy walk. The area could feel rather remote, but with the backdrop of the vineyards, and more rabbits than Watership Down it is worth it.

The facilities are all there, iron, ironing board, washing machine, microwaves, free showers, fridge - you are left wanting for very little.

We would definitely go again.

Just returned from a fantastic weekend. Our third time at this site and it is always good. A warm welcome from the owners who are keen for you to get settled in rather than badgering you for payment like many places.

Pitches are generous in size and grass well cut. EHU's are well located and easily reached with a standard cable. Chimineas are available and firewood crates are £5 each which are just about enough for an evening. The toilets cope for the size of the site and are kept very clean with towels changed daily. There is also a family room with toilet, shower and a selection of kids toys.

There is no dedicated area for the kids to play but space in front of the tents if you are careful and every time we have been communal games of football and cricket have broken out which is a great way to meet other people.

A public footpath runs past the site and Newent is approx 20 minute walk where you can find some reasonable pubs, local butcher, banks, small supermarket, etc. There is also a lovely lake and kids play area. Not an awful lot to do within walking distance of the site, but for a long weekend or a spot to just relax this site is great and we will be back again soon.
