We stayed here for 3 nights of a week long break in Cornwall, we choose this location due to the good walking from the site and the proximity to Heligan Gardens (dog friendly!). All I can say is what a lovely surprise, we visited a few years ago and hadn’t been too impressed as the site seemed expensive and the wardens weren’t very friendly but what a difference a couple of years make!
Where campsites in general have gone up in price, this has remained competitive. The site is beautiful and really well maintained and the wardens were so friendly. Booking online is easy but we were a bit confused about the pitch grading for levelling so when we arrived we queried whether we would be able to move if we couldn’t level up, the wardens couldn’t have been more accommodating, they even offered us their step to help our old Labrador get up into our van. In fact we needn’t have worried as even the sloping pitches are only marginally sloping.
Since we last visited a footpath/cycleway has been laid taking you from the campsite all the way to Mevagissy, this can made into a circular walk taking you back up to the campsite via the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Lobbs Farm shop.
Whilst the facilities block isn’t really modern, it is clean and well looked after offering laundry facilities as well as pot wash, free hot showers etc. Everything you would need for a longer stay.
I loved it here and felt a bit sad to leave after only 3 days.

A lovely site! Perfect for visiting The Lost Gardens where there's a cafe you can visit without going in to the gardens. There's also a farm shop next door which sells superb fresh food (and local wine!)
The facilities on the site were good and the views beautiful.

I am from Chesterfield in the north midlands and was brought up with an annual holiday in Cornwall back in the day some 30 years ago as a family we stayed at Pentewan sands and after a stroll around this site I am so glad that I found Heligan and chose this little site for our holiday. I booked months in advance and could not do this online as we have a disabled son to consider. The folks that I spoke to were very helpful and gave me all the information that I needed and we booked a pitch with electric and this holiday was probably the best experience we have ever had.
Our pitch was just below the shower block and was not totally flat but gently shelving, but we could see the sea over the fields and as we had excellent weather we had some fantastic sun rises.
The site as a whole was small and very welcoming with all the facilities that we required, bathrooms always clean, laundry good, disabled wash room was excellent and pot cleaning area always immaculate.
By 10pm at night fellow campers respected each other and there was no noise apart from lots of owls which is what I expect and the skyies with so little light pollution are out of this world.
Whilst we were there we made many a short hop to Mevaguisey, we did Goran Haven, The guys on the Meva to Fowey ferry were fantastic with our lad in the wheelchair and we were so lucky in sighting porpoise and dolphins. We also made a trip to Flambards and they were much better with disabled users than my local theme parks. We also hired a disabled bike from Bridge Bike Hire of Wadebridge a strange contraption that held the chair on a platform in front of you and you powered it from behind, it was very hard work but made a fantastic day out to Padstow along the Camel Trail.
Fantastic holiday and one that we will revisit at the very same campsite very soon XXXXXX

We arrived late, and the wardens helped us out in checking in the next morning. The pitch was level and had an excellent internal location and view, even though we had to amend our booking a few weeks prior. The playground is great, and there are lots of fresh water taps around.
The site is next door to the Heligan gardens, and a short drive from the Eden Project. It was great to just be able to walk through the fence for Heligan and be there. If you like, you can also get breakfast and lunch from Heligan. The on site shop was well stocked. Do take note of the driving instructions they provide, the little backroad from Porthpean to Pentawan really is unsuitable even though the GPS says otherwise.

We booked plot #1 (non-electric tent-only pitch at the Southern end of the site) for a week in our canvas ridge tent. This plot had good views down the valley to the sea and over the bay to Rame Head (when it wasn't raining!). The plot was a good size, gently sloping and tidily mown. Easy to get tent pegs in! An added bonus were the rare breed cattle and pigs, presumably from the Heligan estate, in the field below our pitch.
Booking via the website allows you to choose your pitch for the particular dates - this was very handy, allowing us to select a pitch where we would be a distance from the play area and without too many people walking past.
Other reviews mention only 3 showers for each sex, but the facilities have been extended since then: the gents had 4 x urinals, 4 x toilet stalls, 3 x showers, several washbasins and one small room with its own basin & chair. I understand the women's facilities were similar. A separate hut contained a further 3 x gents and 3 x women's showers. The showers had push-button timers, with no additional charge for hot water.
There was a separate disabled/family washroom and a laundry with washers and driers, plus a freezer for ice-blocks. 6 x sinks for washing-up, with plenty of hot water, completed the plumbing facilities.
Sadly the weather for much of our trip stymied us in exploring the local area on foot, but the farmshop in Heligan Gardens provides a good range of food and a smattering of basics for camping catering. There's a (separate) cafe/restaurant in Heligan Gardens too, but we didn't try that. Instead we drove the couple of miles to Pentewan where there is a basic cafe/teashop (Little Bay Cafe), pub etc. Of course Mevagissy has loads of pubs and cafes, too.
We had a couple of evenings in the sun sitting out looking over the sea. Although the sun did drop below the trees behind the site an hour or so before sunset, later on it reappeared underneath the trees, giving us a final half-hour of sun before it finally set.
A good, well-organised, tidy site -- I'd happily re-visit.

This is are second visit to camp site, lovely location, beautiful views, lovely grounds, clean and well kept grounds. Staff are really helpful and friendly. Just a bit disappointing that the washing up water could have been hotter and the showers could do with some improvements. Shower buttons don't stay on long enough and they don't drain away between usage. Would definitely return to site.

We stayed here for four nights to visit the Lost Gardens of Heligan and explore the area. We were met by a very friendly and informative warden. Lovely warm welcome and given lots of literature on the local area.
The campsite area itself is immaculate. The staff are constantly gardening and tidying the grounds. My only criticism of this site is the shower block. Always very clean and fresh but could really do with a refurb. Also only 3 showers in the ladies. Plenty of hot water and the radiators always on so lovely and warm. I just feel given the immaculate surroundings of the site the shower block let it down. But this would not prevent me from returning.
There is a path directly from the site leading to Mevagissy and Pentewen Sands. It's an easy walk there but we got a taxi back from Mevagissy £6. 50. We also walked to Pentewen Sands which was a beautiful easy walk around 3 miles. We caught the bus back to the site as very uphill.
I should also say you can walk directly to Heligan Gardens entrance from the site and use the restaurant and visit the farm shop without paying entrance.
The sea is in view from the site and there is a small play area for children with climbing equipment.
I would recommend this site for visiting the local attractions.

Stayed at Heligan Woods as part of a holiday in a rented Motorhome. What a lovely site. Beautifully maintained with lots of clean facilities.
I loved the ease at which we could book a pitch and choose interactively on the internet exactly which pitch we’d like. We had a large grass pitch (number 39) and it was huge with a lovely view down the valley to the sea. The site was well laid out and didn’t seem crowded even though it was pretty much full for the time we were there. Plenty of showers available and a nice covered washing up facility.
The site is right next door to The Lost Gardens of Heligan and you can walk through a gate at the back of the site to get to it.
The site was perfect for us as once parked up we could walk everywhere. The walk down in to Mevagissy is great as it’s an enclosed path meaning we could walk down with our dog off the lead without the worry of her darting in to the fields of livestock. The walk to Mevagissy takes approximately 45 minutes though uphill on the way back so possibly slightly longer! Mevagissy is lovely with lots of shops, pubs and restaurants being dog friendly.
We also did a walk from the site to Pentewan then along the coastal path to Mevagissy and back. The walk from the site to Pentewan took about an hour and was a lovely walk down through the woods and then along the river in to Pentewan itself. After a cream tea at The Cove Café and a drink at The Ship we walked along the Coastal Path to Mevagissy. You cannot go on to the Beach with Dogs at Pentewan however it’s easy to access the Coastal Path…just walk up the road out of Pentewan as if you were heading towards Mevagissy and the Coastal path is accessible right at the entrance of Pentewan Sands Holiday Park. We did this walk on a beautiful dry and sunny day – it’s probably not one I’d do after or during rain as the path is very steep and uneven in places. It took us about an hour to walk from Pentewan to Mevagissy although we did have numerous stops to take pictures as the views were stunning.
We will definitely return to this site as it ticked every box for us.

Lovely relaxing site, with the Lost Gardens literally on the doorstep. As others have said, you can use the tea shop and farm shop there without having to pay entry to the gardens.
Wardens couldn't be more helpful - we were originally booked onto a grassy pitch which, when we actually turned up, was a bit too sloping for our motorhome to drive in and off easily. The Wardens kindly moved us to a more suitable, more level, pitch with the added bonus of a distant sea view. Bear in mind when booking that there are a few very sloping pitches. Facilities were as you would expect, with plenty of hot water for showers and dish washing. I never had to wait for a shower but on the morning of our departure my husband did - to be fair it was the start of the main holiday season and he didn't wait for long.
Mevagissey is a pleasant 40 minute stroll along a good pathway (might be a bit muddy in places in bad weather) but a steep walk back. We used Dave's taxi, £6. 40 for the ride back. Plenty of friendly pubs to choose from - we ate in the Fountain, small pub with a small menu but huge portion sizes. And very tasty too!

Stayed on a non-electric pitch, all had great uninterrupted view. Plenty of space for large tents albeit on a slight slope but you get used to it, nothing to worry about. Rooks are great to watch and you soon get used to them squawking at silly hours of the morning. Very peaceful campsite (without kids that is) and great staff. Very clean, more than adequate for camping. The few kids that were there seemed very happy playing and cycling around exploring.
Just watch out for the speed cameras around St. Austell.
Eden half hour away. Good location for visiting Cornwall.
Camp wifi kept dropping in and out but I had good O2 3G signal. Virgin Media not so good.
More than happy to stay there again.
