This was our second vist to this site, and we were both very disappointed this time round. The gents toilet block was out of order due to a refurbishment, so we had to share the ladies for all our ablutions. ( Not nice for both sexes), And even then there were workmen doing some maintenance in the ladies. We were NOT told this when we booked it up OR When we arrived. Why couldn't they have done the work during their closed season. Having said that, the site is brilliantly situated for the ' Lost gardens of Heligan'.
We have marked it down due to the toilet blocks, and not being told.

We stayed here for 1 week, and whilst the site is well maintained it does have a 1980's feel about it, which meant our 1987 caravan felt right at home. Access to the water and grey water disposal was ok; what confused us was that the electric outlets are right next to the on site roads, which does make getting a large unit onto the plot a difficult task as we had to assist another camper in getting his on to his plot. The play area is very popular with the kids, however a cautionary note the sand in the fall off areas when wet will stain their clothes so if it has recently rained expect grubby little urchins to return.
Whilst visually the plots look reasonably level take lots of extra blocks to level your van as our front was nearly waist high once leveled, and ours was one of the better more level plots
The site is very well located to the Lost Gardens of Heligan, and other attractions in the area so there is plenty to do.
Another note to bear in mind is that whilst you can use all the facilities at the sister site Pentewan Sands, there is a charge for using the pool at £4. 75 per adult/day and £3. 75 per child/day.
The staff were friendly and very helpful, and are available to deal with life's little emergencies as they arose on the site.
Would we return, No! the site wasn't for us and we have booked into Pentewan Sands next year as it has more to offer for a family.

Had a fantastic stay at this site, as the previous review, there was a staff shortage due to sickness, but as we had booked online and reserved our pitch we just found our pitch and set up, a few mins later the warden popped over to see us and we had a nice chat with him, we had a nice distant sea view and a tree for some much needed shade due to the very hot weather. Lovely site, very clean toilets and showers etc. The farm shop at Lobs farm, just over the footpath was excellent and very well priced, Heligan gardens is a very nice way to spend the day exploring but a little pricey at £11 an adult. Mevagissy is such a pretty small harbour and good for Mackerel fishing, we stayed for 3 nights on our cornish tour in our camper and had the most perfect weather for the whole 2 weeks, we will be back next year.

This is a splendid, well cared for site right next to the lost gardens of Heligan. It's beautifully landscaped, and we had the added bonus of seeing a family of swallows fledging from a nest next to the toilet block, which was in immaculate condition. It's on a national cycle route, with easy access to Mevagissey and Pentewan, which has a nice pub and a splendid beach. Regular buses to Gorran Haven, Mevagissey, St Austell and beyond stop right next to the site. We paid £19. 50 a night, which was excellent value given that this is a superb site with first class facilities. We can't fault this site in any way.

We stayed at Heligan woods in early July before the main school holiday with our 3 and 4 year old children. We were on pitch 17, next to the playground. The weather was hot and sunny throughout our stay.
We loved staying here - it's our first major camping holiday as a family and it worked really well, of course the weather helped! This site is literally over a track to Heligan gardens which are amazing and we visited several times. Mevagissey is the pretty fishing town nearby but it's cramped and very full of people so rather off-putting to be honest. The beaches nearby are great - we used the one at Pentewan, owned by the same company as Heligan Woods and with a vast, flat campsite next to it. Too much like a city to stay there but the beach was lovely, gently sloping and good for kids. The sand is quite gritty so doesn't blow in your eyes but is a little rough on the feet! We also went to the tiny beach at Carlyon and another at Gorran Haven. All are shallow and sandy.
While we were there, the campsite didn't have anyone on reception and the shop was shut due to a staff shortage but we could always find the off-duty warden. The week before going, I had to change our dates twice and did this with the very efficient and friendly staff at the Pentewan site. It was maybe a quarter full while we were there. Onsite, they have 3 push-button showers in each side of the toilet block and 6 toilets. This was fine when I was there but I imagine it gets a bit crowded when full! There's also a laundry room (£4 for a wash and quite expensive dryers - I hung mine up though) The wash is only half an hour long so don't expect dazzling results! There's an ironing board and iron there too. We found the bathroom very helpful - one full size bath and one half size for single children or babies.
The playground was lovely with stuff suitable for just-walking babies to 10 or 12 year olds. There are baby and kid swings, a climbing / bridge / slide for little kids and another for bigger ones. There's sand all round the play area so it's good for digging in too.
Our pitch was completely flat but most have a bit of a slope - nothing terrible but the booking bit of the website tells you which pitches are flat or sloped as well as which are all grass; half gravel, half grass or have electricity.

We stopped for one night as we were travelling through and wanted to be near Mevagissey. The site is very tidy and well kept, a little too tidy for my liking, I prefer a site that’s a little more rustic.
The shower block is excellent and kept very clean. Pitch sizes were ok; our pitch was good, however, some of the others are smaller and you would feel very snug with your neighbours.
Location wise it was close to Mevagissey and there is a 45ish minute walk. It’s also right next door to the Lost Gardens of Heligan, there’s a gateway in to the car park.
My own fault but I didn’t check the price before we arrived and felt it was high and also strange that there was no difference between EHU and non-EHU pitches.
If we were in the area again, we would consider this site but would also look at the alternatives.

This is a lovely lovely site. In early June the planting on site of Rhododendrons, Azallias and grasses matched those in The Lost Gardens next door.
Its a very relaxed site with really great staff who were always about but very low key. Very helpful and knowledgeable about the area but not intrusive. We had 4 fab days here and could have stayed longer. Being next door to the gardens meant you could pop back for lunch and put your feet up for an hour. There is a lovely farm shop at the gardens so really good fresh food was on hand and the local buses all called at the gardens. Despite all this the site was very peaceful and the few people who were at their static vans were all happy and chatty.
The walk to Mevaggissy was another joy as the hedgerows were teeming with wild flowers and dog roses. We did get the bus back up though.
Toilet facilities were spotless and the laundry facilities very good.
You can probably tell that I am a gardener and this site and Helligan gardens next door certainly knocked the socks off the Eden project.
This was a highlight of our tour of Cornwall.

We spend many weeks checking sites in Cornwall for our 2 week holiday. On receiving the very smart brochure we think this is the one for us. So off we go to Cornwall with the site already booked. On arrival at the site we find that the reception/shop was closed. A sign tells us that opening hours are 9-10am and 5-6 pm evenings. Still never mind, we find our pitch number 63 and set up. It was a tad tight, so the next day we look round the site for a different pitch. The site, was less than half full[to our surprise]so a new spot was found. Heligan advert quotes that you can see the sea. Yes, but with binoculars. The site boasts 5 star and alan Rodgers highly recommended. I think this star rating was done by an employee as it is certainly NOT 5 star This site is, at most 4 star, and only just that. The toilets are from a bygone age. Old fashioned, with cracked tiles and washbasins impossible to get your hands in because they are so tiny. Taps are the press to get water and immediately stop dispensing water as soon as they are released. The toilet compartments are so narrow that a large person would find it difficult to enter. The showers are typically 1960 ish The only way to get water is to keep your hand pressed on the plunger, thus unable to shower properly. All in all this site could be quite pleasant, but it looks as if the management is concentrating more on their other site, pentewan sands. One other thing which I did not like. On booking, I was advised that there was a compulsory £12. 50 cancellation fee and a £7. 00 booking charge. I immediately objected to having to pay £19. 50 extra for something I did not want; they relented in the end when I threatened to book elsewhere. Would we go there again, probably not.

What a good clean site with spotless amenities and a reasonable cost @ £17 per night, inc. Hook-up and a small dog. Staff very friendly and accommodating. The site is managed well and the majority of sites have a good view of the nearby hills. The site is a good stopping off point for Mevagissey, St. Mawes and all the beaches and coves you would want to visit. There is a Garage/Shop just 2 miles away in the village of Pentewen which is good for most essentials. The pub in the village, being the Ship Inn, was a good stop off for food and had a good selection of hand-pulled beers. Nice place to sit and have a meal or just a drink in the beer garden as well as in the pub. Thanks.

What a lovely site! A great old-fashioned feeling about it, thoughtfully planned spacious pitches, and all the facilities our young family needed - even the luxury of a bath, so much nicer for toddlers than a shower or a bucket! Washing facilities spotless and plenty of washing space, hanging hooks and hot water.
Playground is visible from lots of the pitches, great for older children to have a little freedom whilst being safe, and plenty of space for running and games.
Beautifully landscaped, lots of trees and well cared for grounds, we were on pitch 12 on a busy may bank holiday, very slight slope wasn't a problem at all, and a couple of small trees framing our unexpected sea view!
A friendly welcome and helpful suggestions of places to go. Mevagissey is a delightful little place, we could have spent a lot more time pottering about here, lovely for an evening wander. We also visited Gorran Haven, tiny beach rather crowded at high tide but lovely nonetheless. Eden great for a drizzly bank holiday monday, (check online for discount vouchers its quite pricey!)
Highly recommend this sweet site in a lovely spot, hope to return
