What a wonderful site, lovely staff, lovely setting, spotless toilets and showers. Fabulous farm shop just outside by heligan gardens. It was very wet while we were there but the site was well drained. We where in a tent and no problems at all. We would like to return.

Thanks to reviews here stayed at this site in August 2006 for a few days.We loved it so much we came back for a whole week from August Bank Holiday this year.
Because of the site's links with the much bigger (and less personal) Pentewan Sands site down the road Heligan Woods manages to be well run and has a real intimacy that's hard to ignore too.
The main tent area has generous pitches that feel even bigger thanks to the landscape of rolling fields heading down towards the sea in the distance.Yes, some pitches have a slight slope but this at least means you won't wake up in a pool of water if you'd insisted on something spirit-level flat.
I'd say the wow factor of this site comes from the way the site nestles against the Woods with open fields drawing your eyes to the sea. In the evening we watched a full moon rise from the water to be met by a chorus of hooting owls as the stars came out. I felt like I'd been to another country when I finally got home!
If you want a late-night disco and 'entertainment' you will need to look elsewhere. For a peaceful stay (with or without children) in a great setting you'll do well to find a site as good as this nearby. Minor quibbles (and I mean minor quibbles) that stop me scoring Heligan Woods with the full 10/10 would be:
- Shop and reception opening hours are quirky but, to be fair, clearly stated.
- A booking fee (£7) was required when booking a pitch. This smacked of concert-ticket like opportunism - sorry.
- The male toilet area has wash basins too small to wash both hands at the same time. I kid ye not! Fortunately there are proper 'grown-up' wash basins near the showers 6 feet away.
I recommend the walk/cycle down the path to Pentewan accessible near the entrance to this site. It may too far for young kids to walk unaided but older kids with bikes would be fine, and the pub at Pentewan is good enough to look forward to at the end!Give the car a rest, and allow a half day if cycling or a full day if walking.
Thanks to the other UK Campsiters who recommended this one. It really does work you know.

We stayed here for the first time last week and our only regret was that we had to leave after 3 days to move on to our next site. This was everything you could hope for - quiet, excellent views, great pitches, adequate shop and clean toilet / shower facilities and ideal for all that Cornwall has to offer. We'll definitely be back in 2008 but this time it will be for much longer!

We saw this site at its worst! It was wet when we arrived and the pitches are well used with bare patches. Of course, it was a mud bath with all the rain! Worse for the people in tents. Once it had all dried up it was fine. Good showers and toilets and washing up facilities. Plenty of space between each pitch and nice rural and distant sea views. Overpriced for what you got though. Lots of nice places to visit.

This site is wonderful. We stayed in June with our 1 year old so it was just us and about half a dozen other tents and the odd caravan. Very peaceful and tranquil and the facilities were superbly clean and easily accessible. The Lost Gardens of Heligan is literally right on the doorstep and Mevagissey is walking distance (although a bit hairy on the road). There is a pathway through fields and woods down to the village. A good all round shop on site for essentials and having the facility of the sister site Pentewan Sands which has its own beach (although a bit livelier than Heligan!) We'd definitely go back!

A lovely site! 10 quid a night with electric was the best value campsite we found! We were the only ones on the site so peace and quiet!apart from the crows, owls and pheasents! Some of the pitches were sloping but we managed to get a very flat one. Imagine gets busy in season. Owners nice and friendly.

I really enjoyed my stay here despite being worried beforehand by the amount of smallprint / rules on the booking form that it would be a bit 'regimented'. On arrival I found it to have a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Yet it was organised. Everything was well set out, pitches not too close together, and the toilets/showers/dishwashing areas were clean and well-maintained. The view from the tent pitches was lovely, looking out over rolling fields to the sea. We took our dog along and were at no time made to feel unwelcome. The whole stay was a pleasure - can't wait to return! The only 'con' I can think of is that it wasn't cheap - but I have stayed on other sites which cost as much but weren't half as nice.

We stayed for two nights at the start of a tour of Cornwall. Main purpose was to visit The Lost Gardens of Heligan, for which the site is excellent, literally next door. We had not booked in advance, and received a warm welcome, facilities were good, and the site was almost empty (end September) so we had our pick of the pitches, got a view of the sea, but needed chocks as the pitch was a bit sloping.
We got the bus from Heligan woods car park into Mevagissey and walked back, which was a bit of a hike in the dark! You can also use the facilities on their sister site Pentewan sands (you get an access card) which is right on the beach.
We would certainly use this site again.

We've stayed at the Heligan Woods site twice in 2003 and 2004 when we'd left it too late to get a pitch on their sister site of Pentewan Sands which we've been going to for donkeys years and love. But as we also love to be close to dear little Mevagissey for our sea fishing from the harbour it looked like Heligan Woods or nothing, so Heligan Woods it was!
We found the site to be absolutely spotless with lovely warm showers at any time of day with the toilet blocks being cleaned regularly at the advertised times so you knew in advance when to steer clear, (although the cleaners do say to yell if you're desperate). The first year we went there,as well as the small well stocked shop there was a little take away with tables and chairs outside but sadly this had gone the following year but we were still left with the adequate little shop. Don't quite understand how the review from M53G seemed to think that the shop had gone in June 2004 unless it was suddenly able to be staffed by the time we arrived, but it definitely was there!
The staff on site and in the shop were wonderful, nothing was ever too much trouble and they were always ready with help and advice, (not to mention sympathy when our old girl suddenly developed a mysterious spasmodic leaky bit).
We looked forward to our freshly baked baguettes and croissants each day and the cheese and bacon slices were to die for.... Knowing how much cholesterol they had in them, that's probably quite apt! But ooh, they were scrumptious.
Our 23year old son and his girlfriend also spent the first week at Heligan Woods and they thoroughly enjoyed it, barely venturing up to Pentewan for the ameneties as it happened, quite content to lounge around the van taking in the glorious views and watching the TV when it got too dark.
If there were any down sides to the Heligan Woods site, it would be that a sink suitable for the odd bit of hand washing would be a good idea, (although the launderette on site has woondefully efficient washing machines and tumble driers), and it wasn't close enough for us to be able just to wander down to the beach for our early morning fishing as we do on Pentewan as we fall out of bed. Somehow it's not quite as spontaneous when you've got to drive to get there. Otherwise it's a great site and very peaceful at night, which is a boon for oldies like us who need our sleep. And would you believe it, that even after having stayed at this site twice - we still have yet to enter the beautiful Lost Gardens of Heligan! Many others do though and with this site being in such close proximity to them, we saw them nipping back to their caravans/tents for lunch and returning in the afternoon, so they must be pretty spectacular! Should make concerted effort to see them this year while we're on Pentewan Sands,(only for my early morning stroll down to fish!).

May 2005 I found the facilities and cleanliness of this site to be faultless, friendly staff. It should be noted that all pitches are on grass and that quite a few are sloping. My level pitch was fine and had the usual hookups adjacent. Very quiet, even with minor road adjacent and pleasant setting. Literally a 30 second walk to get to the Lost Gardens of Heligan - £10 for a night, with electricity was a bargain !
