We moved to this campsite to be near Alton Towers, having not read any reviews as the site we had originally chosen was too far away and not suitable for campervans really. I am surprised by these negative reviews as we had a brilliant time here.
We were on pitch 14 which was near the shower block and near the playground. The play area is really good and full of adventure play equipment/ assault course style for kids. The showers took a long time for the hot water to come through and as with many campsite (we find anyway) the hot and cold are the wrong way round.
The £10 deposit for the key fob worked well for us and we were told barrier opening times at check in. The roads leading to the campsite are narrow but are fine if you go at a slow speed.
I would not hesitate to go back here. It was close to Alton Towers but the pitch was quite pricey.

Not that bad guys! We stayed here 2 adults, 4 children 23-25 March 2012. Barrier key £10 first impressions were good, receptionist even gave us a courtesy call beforehand. Not too helpful on local information when we asked though.
Had no phone service on, 3, 02 or vodaphone but the park is very secluded, with your own secluded space, lots of trees and wildlife which we found great!
Washing up facilities quite basic but adequate. Toilets were 3 toilets / 3 showers each male and female, cleaned everyday and spotless. Shaver points, free hairdryer and electrical sockets.
Small shop on site. But opening times was hit and miss. Tried the fish and chip shop in Tean -best fish we've tasted (our opinion!).
Local walks around park and beyond was nice and quiet, road down to pub and local shop (30 minutes). The Queens Head staff were very friendly. Served meals here but didn't sample.
BEST children park we've found since touring so far, and there's a hidden rope swing (just need to look!).
Plenty of rubbish bins, although not recycling as far as we could see.
Didn't want to go any further so can't comment on local attractions.
For a weekend, you must visit.

When we arrived at the site we were impressed with the security barrier into the site. Checking in process was easy and efficient and the lady who checked us in was helpful.
However when we arrived at our pitch on field 7, we realised that it was a long walk from the toilet block and the field was enclosed with woodland. There were approximately 10 pitches on the field most of which were taken mostly by families with children ranging from 1 or 2, to mid/late teens.
Later exploration found a path directly from the end of the field to the toilet and shower block but this was quite steep up hill, unlit, would be slippery when wet and was enclosed with woodland on either side. I would not have felt safe walking up this in the dark, let alone letting children walk up it in the middle of the night. It was a 3-4 minute (timed, not exaggerated) walk from our tent to the toilets.
The toilet block consisted of 4 toilet cubicles, 3 showers and a pot wash area. These are situated in a portacabin. They are shared male and female, and again, I would not feel happy with children sharing toilet areas with opposite sex teenagers / adults. Although the block was obviously thoroughly cleaned every day, the smell was dreadful and when we left at 11am people were still queuing for the showers.
Consequently we left after one night, did not receive a refund for the further 3 nights we had booked and would never return to this site again, or recommend it.
Good point is that it's approximately 15 minutes from Alton Towers but we found the 20/25 minute drive from Forestside Farm where we moved to perfectly acceptable.

A site with almost a captive audience for Alton Towers.
Once you are here you are reluctant to leave due to the close proximity of the adventure park and the fact that there are no refunds.
The lady on reception needs customer training as when we booked in there were a number of campers making complaints.
The camp site is quite large where shared facilities are used in porta-cabins. The cabins were a bit smelly and there was no sign of cleansing work being carried out.
The walls had holes in them, mbut the worst of all the toilets did not flush!
The pitches were rocky no matter where you pitch, but we got around it by laying on our extra air bed.
This site has the potential to be a real winner and make someone a fortune. It is a shame it's not the current owners.
Like the other reviews I would not return, unless it was under new ownership.

Have just returned from a 5 night stay.
The location of the site is very good and close to Alton Towers, which a lot of people were staying on the site for. We were on field one the pitch was the worse I have ever stayed on in over 40 years of camping, more soil then grass and its full of rocks and the pitches are far to small. We had to clean up litter from the pitch before we could set up camp.
There are two showers/loos/wash up areas on the site. Near reception, they smell terrible and the locks on the doors are very hard to open. Wash up area is ok and there is sockets that you can use.
Other area near log cabins, showers are a lot better, wash up area no good as no light at night and all pots slide as its just wood as a drainer.
The litter on the site is not good.
Be aware there are a lot of pot holes on the site road.
On the first morning we wanted to be away at 8am. Alton Towers calling, could not get off site as the barrier was locked and not unlocked until 8. 30 am. When I went back to the site in the evening I went to check the times of the barrier and not even a sorry from staff.
Cheadle is a short drive and good place to stock up on food.
We as a family will not return to this site.

We had a 3 night stay at Quarry Walk and felt we had to submit a review to calm the fears of any potential visitors put off by the amount of negativity about this site. We stayed at The Star last year but were put off by the increased prices. Booked at Quarry Walk and we were worried by all the bad reviews. Our expectations were low but we actually really liked it. At £15 a night for us, it was great value too.
First impressions were very good. Lovely setting amongst birch woodland with rustic reception building at the entrance (which is quite easy to miss but put the postcode in satnav and it's spot on).
Reception was ok, can't complain and didn't experience any abruptness from either of the two staff members. £10 deposit for barrier key fob. Shop stocked with the essentials (no alcohol though) and a few toys/gifts/sweets.
Our pitch was in field 7 at the far end of the site. It felt a long way from reception in the car but there is a footpath through the trees that makes it just a 3 or 4 minute walk to the showers/toilets/washing up/reception.
Pitches are well marked and there is designated car parking close by, although some took it upon themselves to still leave their cars next to their pitches regardless. This is not the fault of the campsite though.
The ground was indeed stony (the clue is in the campsite's name!) and thin tent pegs stand no chance. We had the best results with plastic pegs, although when we took them out at the end of our stay, many were too twisted to use again.
Facilities: The single toilet/shower room adjacent to reception did seem to be the best option. There is the much maligned portacabin toilet block that is cleaned once a day but let's face it, it only takes one person to come in right after and make a mess, and the place seems filthy again. Not the fault of the campsite but mucky individuals. There is a mediocre smell of sewage around this block but what do you expect in a remote location like this? They've probably not got proper drains.
There is another toilet/shower block near the caravans/log cabins (where the nice play area is located). This is a brick building and seemed better than the portacabin.
The washing up room seemed pretty clean when we used it. Yes there is a hole in the wall but that doesn't stop you washing up!
We found the site to be very nicely laid out, although the tent pitches could've ideally been a little more spaced out in our field. The site is very pretty and located in a very scenic area. The walk through the woodland at the east of the site gives some nice views across the valley but does have steep drops so take care with children.
We came away having had a great time and consider it to be one of the better campsites we've stayed at. Don't be put off by all the negative reviews. Each to their own. Give this one a chance. We would be very happy to stay here again.

On first arrival the site seemed in great location and looked like it would be a good site. Receptionist was abrupt at times but overall friendly.
We paid our £10 deposit for the barrier gate, showed them our electric to make sure it was suitable for us to use on their site, our pitch was field 2 pitch 6b which is the field closest to reception,
toilets are unisex and for the whole of the first day and night they stank of sewage but seemed clean enough, the shower and toilet block attached to reception was a much better option for a shower.
Showers and washing up area had big holes in the walls but again clean and adequate.
Took us forever to pitch our tent due to the massive rocks all over our pitch and all pitches were the same, shop seemed to have most things but never bought anything so cant comment on prices.
Overall I don't think we would stay again

We have just came back from quarry walk. Through the country lanes to get there was lovely and the site itself was very secluded and beautiful. I felt the lady in reception was quite abrupt on our arrival, but put it down to someone complaining as we checked in.
The drive down to field 7 was very bumpy but expected. A little disappointed by the size of our field, I thought the map on the website was very deceiving.
We had trouble putting tent pegs in the ground because of rocks and stones in the way. Water was available at every tent field. Be careful letting the kids wander off as some of the woodland has cliff edges.
There was a lovely play park for the kids but quite a walk right round the other side where the caravans pitched.
I thought the thing that let this campsite down has got to be its facilities. There were only four toilets and three showers in a porta cabin, for the tent pitches, and these were for both men and women to use.
The toilets stank of sewage which got worse each day and a handle had fallen off one of the shower doors which was still not fixed by the time we left six days on.
The washing up room was small but clean, but no plugs for the sinks. We chose this campsite for the close proximity to alton towers only a 20 minute drive away.
Nearby cheadle is 5 minute drive away and has a morrison's which came in handy. Overall iI would not stay here again.

We went with another family ( had their own tent ) this was a first for both of us. They got there first and warned us about the narrow lanes and location nit being the easiest to find using their sat nav.
On arrival we were greeted with a not very helpful receptionist. She did her job but not in the nicest of ways. We had a large tent already, for which the pitch had been booked for, but on a whim purchased another the day before going. We were hoping the size was ok. When we asked what we do if the new tent is too big for the pitch the response we got was ' you only have the pitch you booked and it's marked out ' I tried to explain our concern and asked what happens if our guy ropes go outside the marker a little. Again not a nice response but not helpful either. We were given no map or directions to our field, just told down that road, the road split o few meters in !
So after meandering around and taking a few wring turns we found it. Worried that our tent may be tampered with if we broke the rules we didn't use guy ropes on the side so we were definitely within the markers.
The ground, like others have said, took the lives of quite a few pegs. Take the right ones for very hard rocky ground, the name of the place says it all.
The shop was good for tourist leaflets and sweets and that's about it.
The showers / toilets were ok. If it had been busier we might if had a problem. Having read other reviews first we looked for the shortcut and found it.
We went out and away from site each day we stayed there so nothing more to say really. It was generally clean, bins were not over flowing. Would have been nice to park car next to the tent rather than the end of the field, but we knew this when booking.
Will we go back - no. Not unless it's the last option and we really need to

We had an awful experience at this site. We stayed there because of it's proximity to Alton Towers but will definitely find an alternative site next time.
We stayed over the first May Bank Holiday weekend and, although we couldn't arrive until the Saturday afternoon, we had to pay for the Friday night as well. This is pretty standard and we were fine with this. However, even though we made it very clear on booking that we would pay for Friday but wouldn't arrive until the following day, we received a very curt phone call on the Friday evening asking us where we were.
When we finally arrived on the Saturday we were 'welcomed' with a similar tone when they couldn't find our names on their arrival list, because we were still listed as Friday arrivals.
Apart from the lack of customer service, the ground destroyed so many of our tent pegs because it was so stony and the facilities for the tent fields was a unisex port-a-cabin with three smelly toilets. A set up which meant there was no way we would let the children go to the toilet on their own. Also, they were situated at the front of the site, quite a walk through a wooded area, away from most of the tent fields. The showers were OK.
In contrast to all this, on our last evening we decided to take the long stroll to the children's playground which was situated among the caravan area. It was not a distance we would allow the children to do on their own because they would be so far away from the tents. However, when we got there we discovered a very good playground and, to our amazement, a really lovely toilet/shower facility, a world apart from the unisex port-a-cabin near the tent fields. Not sure if that makes sense when so many caravans have their own toilets and showers.
