What a great week we have just had at this site. The greeting was friendly and the single pitch within the quarry was perfect, as we had a dog with us. The kids didnt use the new improved playpark too much because of the enbankment around our caravan was perfect for rescue games! The toilet block was clean, the faded signs could do with updating. But this could not take away the atmosphere of the park. We enjoyed long discovery walks within the park(some cliff edges so beware!)and just up the road is approx a 3 1/2 hour walk around Croxden Quarry or a 2 hour walk to Croxden Abbey. Perfect if you are just visiting Alton Towers or not wanting your mobile to work! Look forward to doing it again next year if not sooner.

What a beautiful site, we had a small tent field which we shared with another family nice and private. It was peaceful and relaxing after a hard day at alton towers.I noticed that they were installing a new toilet block near to us which was better than walking to the other toilets and the baby changing facilities were excellent.I would definitely recommend this site for a longer break lots to do and see and nice play area for the kids.

We are a group of families with children and adults without children. We have stayed at quarry walk a number of times and have always really enjoyed our time there. It is true that the tent/rally fields are a long way from the amenities and play area, and that the combined shower / toilet is annoyingly impractical, if you need the loo when someone is having a shower. For these reasons we consider the price for tents a little steep. Also the staff tend to do so many checks around the site that it can be intrusive. However, the site is in a lovely setting with woodlands all around. The children have a great time and barely use the play area at all, even though, having recently been updated, it's a relatively good one. This is particularly helpful as we wouldn't feel safe letting the children go to the play area unsupervised - there are cliffs with pretty steep drops between the rally field and the play area if you venture from the paths. So, although there are some problems with the site, it doesn't put us off and I would advise others to give it a go too.

Just come back from this very picturesque camp site. Lots of rabbits running around and very beautiful. Unfortunately not for those who need toilet facilities near by - all toilets a long trek. Some concern at quantity of toilets and showers when busy too. Very nice greeting when we arrived but then didn,t see the shop open any other time we passed it. On the Friday our peace was shattered by an influx of tents - too close together really, including screaming babies and a dog. All in all a good week - lovely and quiet during the week, but once Friday came around I was glad we were going. The kids loved the playground and exploring and watching the wildlife around us.

Well what can I say about this site? I'll say it's brill as myself, the wife and 85 year old mother in law have been here four times and the staff are really really nice and friendly and have always treated us as 'friends' more than customers. To be honest, it's always worth pulling our caravan for 5 hours or more to get the welcome we always get. The site itself is very very pretty with walks all around it and it has a really clean toilet block. The outside washing facilities could be better but its only a slightly minus thing. They have a small shop in the reception area which seems to stock the things you may need in an emergency and even one or two luxuries. We are not going back this year as we worry about the mother in law getting a little wobbly on her legs but we can't help but feel a little disloyal by not actually going back this year. However, we shall return. As for the area around the site? Cheadle is a lovely market town and Alton Towers is under 2 miles away. Give it a try I'm sure you'll like this site.

We stayed at this campsite over the Whitsun holiday and would most certainly agree with a previous review stating that the site definitely lacked atmosphere.
Upon arrival at the reception you are immediately given the "rules" of the site by the owners, which was as helpful as they remained throughout our stay.
The facilities were minimal, with three toilets for women and two for men as well as one communal toilet situated close to the reception which had a code for entry at night which we were never given. It seems as though people with caravans are catered for over and above people with tents.
However, the attractions around the park are very close, which is about the only good thing about this site.

Just got back from a very wet visit - we went up primarily for Alton Towers and as I'd not got organized early enough most of the campsites nearby were already fully booked. Greeted with a warm welcome and a very steep bill for £96 for three nights camping! I thought this quite expensive as the site isn't particularly well equipped. It's nicely laid out, in an old quarry - as the name would suggest, but I think mainly aimed at the caravan market, and campers seem to be a poor second. The toilet block (consisting of just three loos and three showers each for ladies and gents) is clean enough, but a very long walk from the campers fields. There is also one 'bathroom' next to reception (a toilet and sink and shower all in one room) but as this is the nearest to the camping field, it's always engaged. The shop is just a few shelves of basics within reception and very overpriced (£1.80 for a bar of chocolate) We also ran out of camping gaz on the Saturday and couldn't find anywhere within ten miles or so who sold it, or was open! Cars are not allowed on the top field, apart from setting up, and packing away, so each time we went in or out we had to carry everything across with us. However, site is very well situated for Alton Towers, just about 4 miles.

I arrived at the site, which without a satellite navigation system would of been hard to find as there wasn't any signs and signed in. The staff were very friendly and gave a warm welcome. They were also very helpful with local area details. The shop sold a small variety of sweets, some tinned foods and a few other basic things such as drinks, feminine products, toothpaste.etc however I didn't notice and bread or milk. The site was very clean and there were plenty of bins provided in the tent fields. I was located at the back of the camp site which was about a 5 minute walk to the front gate. From what I noticed, log cabins were being built and a few were already up and running. Setting up the tent was quite a pain as the ground was fairly rocky and it was hard getting the pegs fully in but luckily it wasn't windy and we put them in as best as we could. The staff often walked around the campsite to check everything was in order and seemed more than happy to stop for a chat. The campsite was very peaceful except a party camping next door who had a guitar and barbecue and was a group of teenagers celebrating an 18th birthday but seen as we was celebrating a birthday ourselves it wasn't too bad. Just behind my tent was woods and trails to walk round which was really good, especially in the dark. Walking to the toilets wasn't very inviting because of the distance and extremely poor lighting, however the toilets themselves were very good. They were nice and warm and kept very clean and there was always paper towels and toilet paper available (the toilets are closed between 12:30 and 13:30 everyday for cleaning). In the local area there was Croxden Abbey, however we choose to walk about 2 - 2 1/2 miles to Cheadle (passing 2 pubs, a small park with see-saws and other activities for children and a local shop) where we caught a bus into Stoke On Trent and had a lovely day looking round the shopping centre, shops and museums. I even ordered a take-away on our first night. We got take-away menus from the staff who were very helpful, although we had to stand at the front gate to get a mobile phone signal before we could ring. It would of been nice to see a payphone. There was also a children's playground which from what I saw as I walked by, the children staying there loved and it looked very clean and safe. Other visitors to the campsite were very friendly and I often got a 'morning' which was very warm and friendly. Overall I think the campsite was excellent and with my favourite part being the woods trail and I really want to go back there and I should hopefully be seeing the campsite again soon!

Quarry walk has a pretty camping field, but it lacks atmosphere. I would describe it as a soul less place. It caters for touring caravans really and tents seem to be a second thought. The 3 camping fields share 1 toilet and shower which is contained in the same room- terrible set up, and only cleaned once a day, not pleasant. We were lucky in that we were close to it but if you are in the highest field its a good distance to walk and not lit up at night. Our field was on top of a sheer cliff face with no fence for sfaety and only a small warning sign that was covered by a tree branch- not safe for small children. The play area was a long way away and not very good. The owners/managers were friendly people. Our field was on a slope and all pitches were subject to terrible flooding when it rained. The shop stocked some provisions, but no milk, bread or papers. The good thing about the site was it was sheltered and there were no hard and fast rules

Having friends come to visit from a distance, myself and my husband decided that it would be nice for the four of us to spend a night away, camping at Quarry Walk Park. Although this site is only around twenty minutes drive from our home, we had heard many great reviews and going from their website this place looked wonderful. We emailed to make our booking, and everything went fine, until we were told that they must receive payment prior to arrival, over the telephone but they do not accept Visa Electron which is the only card myself and my husband have access too. Now this started to worry us as we were unsure of whether this was going to jeopardise our visit. Luckily our friends had an alternative card and were able to pay the week before we arrived so that was ok. When we arrived at the park on Tuesday morning we were very happy with what we saw. The staff were friendly and helpful, the campsite quiet and spacious, there was a shop onsite where we could buy any essentials we may have forgotten and we were looking forward to a relaxed Tuesday and Wednesday. We drove to the area of the site we had been told to, pitched both tents and set up our little BBQ for a spot of lunch. We were surrounded by hills and trees, the setting was magnificent and we were all very relaxed and enjoying our day. After lunch we went for a walk around the site. the toilets are a bit of a trek from the tent area. We went and bought a few things from the shop to amuse ourselves with and then headed back to our tents and just sat down to relax with a glass of wine. No problems up until now and we were having a most enjoyable day away from the chaos of normal life. That was until some gentleman (campsite staff!) approached us and told us we had to move our tents and cars to a different area as there was "a party booked in for five nights" who wanted this space. His manner annoyed both ourselves and our friends, and we felt that we were being treated inferior as we were only staying one night. Did it really make so much difference whose tent was where? Anyways, not wanting to spoil our peaceful days, we moved as instructed to the adjacent area and re-set up our belongings for what was hopefully the last time. This time we stayed where we were. Enjoyed our day and night relaxing with a quiet drink, playing cards, and generally doing what friends do, enjoying our surroundings, the local wildlife (birds, sheep and rabbits) and the peace and quiet. The only real negative issue we had with this site was how far the toilet/shower block is located from the tent area and the fact that after dark there was no lighting whatsoever surrounding our area or leading to the toilets, especially when the road/path is lined with trees on either side. Personally, neither my friend or I felt comfortable walking from our camping area to the toilet blocks alone. I would suggest that this may be a safety issue with room for improvement. All in all, this was an enjoyable break, even taking into account the points we have raised. The one thing I will say is that it is fairly obvious that tents are not treated with the same respect/importance as caravaning visitors. Either that or they saw two couples in their mid-twenties and assumed that age would be an issue.
