We stayed over the bank holiday.
We pitched on field 6 with no EHU, there were only 4 other tents on the filed so it was very peaceful.
It was busier on the fields with the EHU's.
The toilets are a bit of a walk away but were always clean when we went to them.
The shop was well stocked and the play area was just what my 3 year old son wanted.
Loads of things to do close by apart from Alton Towers, so go and see the white peak area.
There are a few nice country pubs close by too.

As most people who have stayed at this site we stayed due to how close it is to Alton towers.
It would be near impossible to find without a sat nav as it is on lots of windy one way roads! !
The site, as the name suggests, is / used to be / still is a quarry. This seemed to cause two problems to us when we went to this site.
1) When it rained, instead of the water being soaked away it just sat and the grass was very wet and almost swamp like by the end of our stay!
2) When trying to put up our tent we found it difficult as we only have standard pegs, this meant that most just bent as the land was very rocky.
The first pitch we were given when we arrived was inadequate for the size of our tent and seemed very expensive for what we had paid, if we had pitched there the tent would have lead right out onto the road. As well as this the first pitch had lots of dug up bits on the edge where cars had been coming past.
After talking to the owners we were given two new pitches in a lower field which were equally as wet but had more space.
As far as we saw during our stay there was one toilet block near the lower fields - and a portacabin a long walk from the upper fields. The toilets and showers were very clean when we stayed
I think if the weather was better maybe we would of enjoyed ourselves more but some things the weather can't change!

We selected this site for the reviews that we read. Quiet, clean and well run.
When we arrived we were told that our pitch was water logged thus we were moved to the late arrivals pitch, which was on a slope (we had to hold the cups on the table to stop them slipping) and stayed there for the duration. We had no visit as suggested by the staff to see if all was well. I did go into the toilet after the cleaner had been in (porta cabin) and he had mopped the floor but had done very little in the way of cleaning the toilets. I did see some people pitching their tents on top of mud patches in one of the small sites which must have displeased them some what.
It is within easy reach of Alton towers and about 15 min drive to the park. The site is quiet but on our first night I did have to ask a tent full of girls to keep the noise down (2.30 am). It was slog to walk to the pan wash area from our pitch and then some times no hot water.
The owls are vocal at night but the kids loved to hear and see them (a glimpse only) A new Morrisons supermarket has just opened in Cheadle which is good for supplies.

We booked Quarry Walk specifically for its location relating to Alton Towers, which, if you have a good Sat-Nav or good map is only 10 mins away, however, we doubt that we would use this site again. We used the sites own directions to arrive, during our stay our Sat-Nav chose a wonderful array of narrow lanes to approach the site, none of them particularly enjoyable if towing.
On arrival we were told all the site rules mentioned in previous reviews, we were pleased to hear that there was a 5mph site speed limit. Imagine our surprise at the number of vehicles that blatantly ignored this.
We had heard that there were some nice walks within the park; we were therefore surprised by the lack of an available site plan. When asking at reception we were told that the only available site plans were stuck on the desk in front of us or on the notice board outside. Neither of these showed possible walks. Please, it wouldn't take long to improve the plan, photocopy it and hand out if requested.
Being an old quarry the site suffers from the weather, when it's dry it's dusty, when it's wet it's muddy, be warned take your wellies if it's likely to be wet.
The toilet block is acceptable, clean (immediately after cleaning) and warm although the showers were not always hot. Our only gripe here is that 3 toilets and 3 showers in the ladies and the same in the gents is no where near sufficient for a site of this size. The floor became dirty very quickly and although a mop and bucket was available in the gents no one except the cleaner appeared to use it. The distance to the toilets for the people in tents is huge. This adds to the site traffic as people use there cars to get too and from the block.
Finally, the play area, our children (9 & 4) enjoyed it, be prepared for all the sand that will come back in their shoes though! as the entire base of the quite large area is sand. The only gripe our children had was that there was no place to play with a ball.
On the whole the site was OK if simply stopping for Alton Towers, it wasn't a very pleasant site to simply sit and relax.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at quarry walk. The site is in a nice quiet location but does taking some finding as our sat nav was taking us ups some very narrow/winding roads so would suggest contacting the sire if you have a large caravan/motorhome as these roads may be unsuitable. The site is approx 15 minute drive from alton towers and approx 5 minutes to cheadle where there is a supermarket, bank, chemist etc.
The pitches are sized so make sure you book the correct pitch as there is not much spare space.
We stayed on field 3 which is not too far from the toilets/showers and reception BUT BEWARE if you are booking field 6 or 7 you will probably need to drive to the toilets especially if you have children.
The only downside of this site is he toilet/shower facilities. The main block only has 3 toilets and 3 showers for ladies and the same for men so are very crowded and easily a 30 minute wait each morning for a shower.
Overall a nice site if you are visiting Alton Towers. Fairly cheap pitch prices, not great toilet facilities.

We booked this site due to its close proximity to Alton Towers, upon arrival myself and my husband found the staff pleasant and helpful however when we reached the rest of our party in our camping field they were not so positive. On a very wet weekend the field was very boggy and drainage seemed inadequate. As others have mentioned there did seem to be a lot of rules on site, while sometimes this can be beneficial it did feel a little like a school trip! I accept that rules are rules and must be obeyed but when you are told that you are allowed BBQ's and then told that you are not allowed to sit around the BBQ after you have finished cooking as this is then considered a fire it did seem a little ridiculous.
Toilet facilities closest to us were in a very dirty and very basic potakabin they were also a long walk away, there were much nicer facilities on site but these were even further away, choose your camping field carefully. The nearest washing up facilities were inside the ladies toilets - not the nicest place to be cleaning you pots and pans and other facilities were at least a 10 min walk away which is not ideal in the evening as the light is fading.
Generally the proximity to Alton Towers was great however unless you are planning a visit to Alton towers there is little else in the area

When we arrived they had no record of our booking and we didn't see any staff during our 3 night stay.
The site is spread over a wide area. We were put in field 6 which along with field 7 is quite a distance from the toilet and shower facilities.
The campsite as a whole is well looked after and has a small play area.
It is in a good location for Alton Towers.
If you're towing a big caravan I would use the directions from the website as my sat nav took me through some very narrow country lanes.
We went to The Raddle Inn (as recommended on the quarry walks website) on the way back from Alton Towers. It is an unassuming pub with fantastic views and even better home cooked food.

This site was a huge disappointment. On arrival we were not made to feel very welcome by the two ladies in the 'reception'. On finding our pitch in area 5 it was waterlogged and muddy, the receptionist was very unhelpful, she eve claimed someone had camped on it and had just left - anyone have a tent that could be pitched in muddy puddle! - and begrudgingly looked at another one. Thankfully a more than helpful gent sorted us out.
Area six was flat and in a lovely setting BUT 5- 6 min walk to facilities along a very flooded, potholed road with nowhere to step off should a car come. Top toilets hut was a mess having no steps up to door, two shower units not very clean. Facilities down in the caravan/camper area were warm and clean and much better.
On the upside the kids playpark was fab but due to our pitch the kids couldn't use it unless we drove them down and when we needed a doctor staff were very helpful indeed.

Picked this site up from the AA 2008 guide where it gets three pennants. I was a bit worried when I read the reviews here and whilst I can see why some people might have been unhappy my personal experience was generally a good one.
The site is in a fantastically rural and quiet location, as others have said I would have struggled to find it without sat-nav. When we arrived we were given a warm welcome on to the site and were walked down to our pitch, which we had booked in advance on-line, by a member of staff.
Although the welcome was friendly there did seem to be a lot of rules, don't get me wrong I was not unhappy with this as I like a quiet life and if everyone is required to stick to them then it makes for an enjoyable experience for all. The staff came around later in the evening to ask how things were and to make sure that everything was in order.
Our pitch was in a field at the foot of a tall slope and was perfect except that our neighbour had pitched in the wrong spot and was looking right into the door of our tent. To the owners’ credit she noticed this straight away and offered us a different spot on the same field which we took, unfortunately our next neighbours were pretty noisy but the site cannot be blamed for that.
The pitch was a little tight and the ground stony in places making it a bit difficult to drive pegs home but it was lovely and sheltered so no complaints. The field that we were on was reasonably close to the facilities in the valley which were really very good with warm and clean showers, I had no problem with these. However I did have to use the portable facilities by the shop when I was leaving and I must say that if I had been on the field that was adjacent to these I think that I would have been pretty unhappy, they really were pretty dirty and basic. In addition to this there was a really big skip near to these that had a distinct whiff; it had been a hot busy weekend and it was very full. Whilst on this point the bins in my area were not emptied over the weekend and rubbish was piling around them by Monday morning.
My son made use of the play park which was very good and we managed to squeeze in a couple of the woodland walks around the site. These were lovely and the woods were full of wildlife, there were loads of very acrobatic squirrels in particular. As we had used the site as a base for Alton Towers (4 miles away) this was a lovely antidote for the razzmatazz there.
On balance I would recommend this site because the staff were so friendly and the location was so tranquil but users will need to be careful when choosing which of the fields to camp on, the bins and portable toilets really need some attention.

Excellent toilet and shower facilities, but not too many of them. Hair dryer, hand soap, shower curtain (so your stuff doesn't get wet), seats and hooks and no push button showers! Staff were neither good or bad.
My only criticism is the caravan/camper area, where you get hard standing pitches - it is all hard standing! Our pitch was opposite the cabins and I felt we were parked in a car park, no privacy, no space.
Great spot for alton towers camping, but not if you want to sit and relax, unless you like looking in a cabin window or a cliff face.
