This is a beautiful peaceful campsite.
We enjoyed our one night stay here and did a lovely walk from the campsite.
We did not meet the owner but the warden John was very attentive to a problem we had with our Motorhome water pump and went above and beyond in an effort to solve the problem. Much appreciated.

"Peace, perfect Peace"
The site and facillities are clean and well cared for by Sheila and John who welcomed us to the site, we being
Very mature novices to Motorhoming were grateful for their helpful advice.
Ellisland Farm (Robert Burns) is close by. Drumlanrigg castle at Thornhill is well worth a visit as is the
Bird Sanctuary at Caerlaverock castle. Ae Forest is also close by, Galloway Forest a little further.
Arriving late, we stopped off at the Solway Gate Restaurant (on the outskirts of Dumfries 8 miles from Red Squirrel)
And had a welcome hot meal.
We highly recommend the Red Squirrel Campsite.
Thank you,
J & C Ch

A small friendly and adult only quiet site in a pretty spot. Grassy pitches with hook up.
Only 1 toilet and separate shower room. Spotlessly clean.
Multipurpose cooking and cleaning room.
Honey for sale made on site by Hamish.

This is a lovely site, nestled in the hills. It can take about 10 outfits on the grass field. It's quiet and so you can hear birdsong all the time.
There can be midges although that's not why the hamlet gets in name; its' a corruption of 'Mids' (I think. Margaret explained to me why it's called Glenmidge and it's got nothing to do with the little blighters!)
Shower and toilet block are very clean.
Hamish keeps (a lot of) bees and you can buy honey.
New wardens, John and Sheila, have recently arrived and are lovely.
It's a super wee site and the cycling and walking s superb. Good cafes in Thornhill.

Lovely owners who helped us when we got lost on the way there.
Small campsite ideal when your travelling.
Showers and toilets were fine.
Would recommend for people travelling as a stop off.

Red squirrel site was fantastic. The warden and owners were very helpful and welcoming.
The site was clean and well cared for. Red squirrels were seen as well as Red Kites and a fox while on a walk from the site.
I will definitely use this site again

Situated 8 miles north of Dumfries, this idilic place is a couple of miles from the main road, down in a valley, surrounded by forests and hills.
The hosts, Margaret and Hamish are a fountain of knowledge of the area, they gave us a map of a local walk, which was scenic and historical. Seeing the red squirrel was a bonus. The homemade honey was amazing!
Looking forward to returning soon 😊
