We picked this site after reading the good reviews on here, for our first overnight in our new (to us) little Romahome, we wanted to check the hookup etc whilst not being too far from home.
We arrived late afternoon without booking (I would book if going again, as the gentleman managing the site told you it sometimes got quite busy at weekends) On this occasion there was only one other campervan on site.
The site consists of a small field with EHU points around the perimeter, and we were told to camp wherever we fancied and were given a short tour of the facilities. We picked a nice spot next to a red squirrel feeding box. The fees were £12 for the camper and £3. 50 for the EHU.
The site has one toilet, and one shower, both clean and well maintained. Also a large barn with cooking, washing-up facilities, a washing machine, and some seating.
The site is in a lovely spot, well-sheltered and just next to a quiet country lane, along which cars went past infrequently.
It was a very clear night and the sky was just spectacular, we saw plenty of shooting stars and sat out watching the universe go by in a lovely peaceful location. During the day, we also saw some of the local red squirrels feeding at the boxes on site. Lovely!
We would definitely return to this site, it was in a lovely location, the site 'manager' was welcoming and helpful (offered to look for some WD40 when we were struggling with the legs on the van!), and it was just so peaceful, felt like we'd had a week away after just one night in this idyllic setting.

I have been here twice now and this is a gem of a site. The owners are very friendly and make you feel welcome.
The site is small and has one toilet and one shower, so if it is busy you need to go early. There is a barn which is equipped with a kettle, microwave, double burner cooker and a washing machine. The site is kept spotlessly clean.
To get here you need to travel along narrow country lanes so caravanners need to be careful. The local shop and hotel is 2. 5miles away. There is a restaurant in the hotel which serves good food at a reasonable price.
Red Squirrels frequent the site and if you are up early in the morning you can see them feeding from two food hoppers.
Looking forward to coming back here.

Used this small site en route from Ardrossan ferry.
An ideal stopover a few miles from Auldgirth.
The owner was very friendly and chatty. He promised us red squirrels and delivered! - our pitch was between 2 feeding boxes and we enjoyed our squirrel watch waking 6 am to catch them feeding at the boxes - a real treat!
Grass pitches with electric hookup -just another campervan and a tent pitched whilst we stayed so plenty of room between us.
Basic toilet and shower facilities but very clean.
Did not see/use the other facilities as previously described in other reviews.
Would use this site again
A quiet adult only site - tractors from a neighbouring farm could be heard along the near road but did not cause problem to us.

Just returned from a weekend camping at this idyllic site. If you are hoping to get away from it all then this site is very peaceful. The owners are wonderful hosts and are very attentive to their visitors. Only one toilet and shower which wasn't an issue when we stayed as site was very quite but could be an issue at busy times. Campers well catered for with barn like building equipped with fridge, freezer, 2 ring hob, microwave, kettle, toaster and washing machine. Also table and chairs if weather is wet. We had a fabulous time and would definitely recommend this lovely little site.

What a wonderful little site. The owners are so helpful and the site is kept clean and tidy. You can get full TV signal and internet/phone signal from this site.
There is only 1 shower and Toilet with a spare toilet at the rear of the house if needed and these are kept very clean and well stocked, there is no issues with having to wait to use these as it is a little site and no overcrowding.
There is a family of Squirrels which visit the feeding boxes and are a treat to watch.
There is walks from the site and it is very close to mountain MTB seven stains centres and other attractions.
If you like peace quite and neatness this is the site for you, we are planning our next trip this time with bikes.

What a lovely site. Less than 2 miles off the main road in a beautiful spot. The owner could not be friendlier or more helpful.
The site is small and flat. Showers etc are clean, fairly basic but perfectly adequate. There is also a large area with cooking, washing and drying area. The red squirrels are the icing on the cake, being fairly tame and feeding close to the units. A great site to wind down at.

Just returned from a 5 night stay at Glenmidge. This is a fabulous site and run by the nicest people. Thanks Hamish, Margaret and Tom. The weather was mixed but that did not spoil our trip to the area of Dumfries. So much history in the area it really demands a second visit. Facilities excellent. Red squirrels a treat. Other visitors on the site were very friendly. Ate at the Thornhill Inn and The Auldgirth Inn, both had really nice sensibly priced food and good real Ale.
A nice drive to Rockcliffe on the coast is recommended as is a visit to the museums at Dalbeatie and at the John Paul Jones Cottage.
The site is compact and occasionally there can be noise from farm traffic and early risers, but this did not spoil the experience for us. The cafe at Auldgirth is also good and really inexpensive. We had take away home cooked jam scone nearly every day. The night skies were not at their best due to the weather but I understand are wonderful when the sky is clear

Arrived home today from 2 week stay at Glenmidge. Hamish & Margaret are friendly & welcoming, there if you need them (contact no. If they do manage to have some time off) but leave you to enjoy the peace & quiet of their well looked after retreat.
There maybe only 1 wc & 1 shower but for the size of the site this should be more than adequate. We have stayed at slightly larger sites that only have 2 showers, and lets face it, if you have a caravan or motorhome you usually have the facilities to do your ablutions.
I have never been so close to a red squirrel to watch its antics and had a great time watching him/her watching me and diving in and out of the feed box.
Although we did not use the pub at Auldgirth who serve food, Hamish did recommend it to us, we were too content once back on site after golfing/sightseeing that we didn't want to go off again. Your needs are catered for right down to a toaster.

We chose this site as not never been on adult only site, as we like peace and quiet. (We have children, so done it and have worn the tee shirt). Nice area, though the roads were rather narrow coming and going. Facilities were adequate, the added advantage of an enormous chest freezer and fridge, microwave, it also had a very large barn with large table and bench forms which the back packers used to eat in, you could hang up wet clothing also. Friendly couple and fresh honey to buy. The only thing I would say is on a windy day, the site is rather like a wind tunnel and when its gale force. Hang on to your tents.

We only stayed a night on our way back from Skye.
What an amazing little site.
There was only one other pitch occupied.
We had a nice flat pitch with ehu. The facilities are nice and clean, with the addition of books, maps amongst others in a shed at the side.
Hamish and his wife are lovely, really nice people.
You MUST buy some of his honey, it's great.
It is a very quiet site with the added attractions of the red squirrels. Hamish has feeders for them in the trees. They woke us up at 10 to 6 in the morning, banging the lids down on them. They were about half a metre from our caravan, and aren't afraid of people. They just go up the trees and watch you.
It's in a good location for walking and cycling.
We went into Dumfries in the evening, it's 8 miles away.
A wonderful, quiet site with fantastic owners and great value for money.
Don't forget the squirrels
