A hidden gem! If you are looking for a 'posh' site with shops and entertainment this is not for you. It is for those who appreciate it's beautiful secluded location, it's practical facilities, spotless shower and toilets, and friendly owners.
There is access to a large shed/garage. In it are a variety of appliances for campers use - microwave, kettle, toaster, hob, washing machine.
There is provision for washing and storing bikes. All around the red squirrels play. Fabulous!
The field is flat, and hook ups are available. Would love to go back.

We've just returned from a thoroughly enjoyable night at this wee gem of a site. We were really lucky as the sun was shining the whole time but the location of this site would impress in any weather.
We were greeted with a warm welcome on arrival and given the choice of any pitch as we were the only ones staying that Friday night.
There is a lovely secluded grassy area with elec hook up available as well as harder ground for heavier vehicles.
The facilities were spotless and there is a wealth of local info available inside the campers barn/kitchen/wash-up area.
We also took advantage of the nearby forest track for walking the dog - would recommend this walk as you gain height very quickly (but without much effort) and are rewarded with stunning views.
We will definitely return to this site later this year when we can hopefully stay for longer as there is so much to do in this area.

This lovely little site is well worthy of all the other positive reviews it has received.
Warm welcome from Tom, Hamish and Margaret. The other campers were also friendly and cheerful despite the rather dreich weather.
Toilet and shower were spotlessly clean. Shed with cooking facilities was a godsend as someone in the party had forgot to pack the gas!
Although the site is in a rural location, it is not far to the main towns of Dumfries and Galloway.
It is excellent value at £12 per night including electricity and we look forward to a return visit.

This is a fantastic site, even the bad weather did not spoil our visit, loads of wildlife we were lucky enough to see lots of buzzards, red squirrels and a couple of weasels. Great for dog owners lots of walks.
You must visit the shop in Auldgirth, my husband loved the bacon and haggis buns. Loads to do in the area, and plenty of places to visit.
Hamish's honey is fab you must try some, wish I'd bought more.
Even though there is only one toilet and shower you never had to wait for either, and they are always clean with plenty of loo roll. We will be going back.

Excellent, this camp-site lives up to it's description & reviews!
Amazing views, facilities are clean warm and welcoming. We were lulled to sleep by a bubbling burn and an owl calling and awoken naturally by a cockerel crowing-bliss!
Wonderful night skies!
Thornhill has an excellent Chinese take-a-way, for latecomers, wonderful choice of independent shops in the day, and welcoming locals!
Added bonus of being an 'adults-only' site, and the campers/caravanner's, seemed to all be like-minded, and self-govern themselves, therefore eliminating the need for the site owners to pin up lists of 'do-nots' all round the site.
The morning after we arrived I felt that the everyday stresses of life and work had dissipated!
Finally- Hamish's Honey is well worth the £4 per jar.

This was a fantastic adult only little site with very friendly, easy going owners. We had great weather which always helps but even so site was ideal for us.
Great facilities for size of site including use of a microwave, fridge etc if you want it, very clean toilet & shower, dog friendly & great walks from site. Very reasonably priced.
Not for you if you want peace & quiet but perfect if you do. We leave close by but will certainly be back
Well drained, flat site, with hook up if you want it.

Stayed for just a night, simply rang the night before and was lucky to get a pitch. Site well signposted and only a couple of miles from main road.
Delightful location, surrounded by hills and woodlands - a real feel of being isolated. Grassed site very well kept and level. Delightful site owner who lives just opposite the camping field.
Good value at £12 for hook up and spacious pitch. Toilet and shower immaculate, also access to a barn with washing/cooking facilities.
We were lent maps and given directions for circular walks starting from the site. Watched buzzards circling overhead in this scenic adult only paradise.

A lovely site with very friendly and helpful owners. We took up the Spring Fling offer and stayed for £80.00 for the week which was excellent value for money.
Toilet and shower facilities basic and clean, although only 1 of each you were rarely waiting for either.
The barn is a great idea providing storage, drying, refrigeration and cooking facilities. There was also a small library with leaflets and maps of the local area.
Shops about 15 mins away in Thornhill or larger stores in Dumfries a little further.
Excellent walks from the site including a forest walk opposite the site
Owners and site are dog friendly.
An excellent gem of a site for getting away from it all and enjoying some peace and quiet, will definitely return.

My wife and I spent three nights at Glenmidge Smithy where we found the owners of the site to be very welcoming and informative about the surrounding area.
The facilities are excellent and include both a toilet and shower area which are kept impeccably clean, an indoor barn area where you can wash your dishes, wash your clothes and have the use of an electric hotplate, microwave and kettle.
Charges for the use of the washing machine were very reasonable as was the charge for each night stay. The site itself is in a secluded spot so if you like peace and quiet then this is the place to be.
There was also plenty of information about the local and surrounding areas. There is a shop approximately two miles away where the staff are very pleasant and the prices very reasonable.

This was my first camp trip and this site was recommended to me. I read the reviews before hand and felt safe before I visited the site. On arrival I was really surprised how small the site was and how friendly other campers were. I travelled alone (female) on my cycle so with this in mind I felt very safe at the site.
The site is exceptionally clean and well equipped, I was travelling very light on my bike and it had all I needed there. Dove soap and andrex in the toilet, that's better than my house!
The other campers were very helpful to me, I was away for the day and nearly lost my tent, so thankfully the guys pegged it down for me!
Would definitely recommend this site.
