Just had to say what a terrific site this is.

So peaceful and friendly, you are made to feel so welcome by hamish and margaret, the owners, who live on site.

Set in a lovely wee glen with a real homely feel to it.Very dog friendly with great walks for the dogs and the owners.

The barn is set up to give folks in tents a good covered area to work in, a godsend when it is raining. The toilet facilities are spotless and all hot water is included in the price.

Eight miles from dumfries and 4 miles from thornhill, a takeaway hotspot.Local pub is pretty good as well.

This is one site I will definitely be going back to.

Excellent campsite in tranquil countryside just North of Dumfries, a little bit off the beaten track but easy enough to find. Only one toilet and shower ( very clean ) but quiet site so this was enough. Friendly welcome from Hamish and his wife even though we arrived late. Camping pitch was flat with superb views of surrounding hills. Only stayed one night as off to Turnberry for the golf the next day but we will definitely be back for another visit.

What a lovely little site, Hamish and Margaret were really nice people, made you very welcome. We do not have any negative comments about the site. We would definitely go back, Hamish keeps bee's and sells the honey which is first class.!

A lovely small site with very friendly owners. The site was easy to find; Tom Tom took us right there. There are no defined pitches but it is very flat. The ground is hard & we needed the hardened steel pegs for the awning. There are red squirrels & buzzards around. There is only 1 toilet & 1 shower but both were clean with lots of hot water. There is a large shed with washing & cooking facilities including table & chairs; ideal if you're camping.

What a little gem of a site friendly and secluded with everything and more for a holiday in a tent, with free use of the fridge, microwave, kettle in the barn and the owners could not be more helpful if they tried, a fantastic few days spent in a very secluded haven.
Will return at the drop of a hat, one of the, if not the best camp site I have ever had the pleasure to stay on.
Just down the road a great little pub, the auldgirth inn, with great meals and friendly service.

This was the quietest (and therefore the most relaxing) site we have ever been on, and I'd recommend it to anyone who needs to de-stress and unwind. About one vehicle an hour passes on the single-track road, and it's a small adults-only site. So the only noises we heard were the birds, most notably a raven and a buzzard having an argument in the sky (contrary to another review, there are no eagles in this area, sadly) and several owls - that's a real treat nowadays, as was the dark starry sky with no light pollution.
The owners are an interesting couple and live on site, you are made to feel very welcome, and you pay on departure. There's one loo and one shower, but I only had to wait once - and there's plenty to read while you wait in the next door workshop, which is thoughtfully set up for use by tenters: microwave, kettle, table; local honey and eggs in the honesty box. Off-lead dog walk is up a track into the woods.

There's easily enough for a week's holiday here - walks (borrow a laminated map) and cycles from the site on quiet roads (the bicycle was invented 4 miles away at Keir Mill). The towns of Thornhill and Dumfries, Drumlanrig Castle, Charles Jencks's amazing Garden of Cosmic Speculation at nearby Portrack (open for the Maggie's Centres on one day a year, steel sculptures made at Glenmidge Smithy), the Henry Moore and Rodin sculptures sitting out in the open fields at Glenkiln near Shawhead, Andy Goldworthy's Striding Arches and cairns near Moniaive, fishing and kayaking in the Nith, the RSPB reserve at Caerlaverock and the beautiful coastline of Kippford and Rockcliffe within easy reach. I wish I'd found this site sooner!

This is a wonderful campsite, the wildlife around the campsite is amazing, red squirrels at your doorstep and wildlife all around you on the campsite, with buzzards overheard. A small campsite and only one toilet and one shower, also included are washing-up facilities, all with hot water provided, however the facilities are immaculate and site is reasonably priced also Hamish the site owner cannot do enough for the campers.

Plenty to see and plenty to do, Castles, Abbey's, and historic buildings. Plenty of space for the children to play in and excellent shopping in nearby Dumfries, including a large Tesco supermarket. It was a long way to travel from Wales but I would definitely stay again.

This is an absolutely fantastic campsite in a really beautiful countryside setting. There are relatively few pitches and the toilet, shower and washing up facilities are adequate.
The owners couldn't have been more helpful and friendly and we would definitely recommend this site. We will also definitely be back again!

Difficult to add anything extra to what has already been said. Stayed for a couple of nights en-route north and found it a cracking little place. Ideal for special interest, nature, cycling etc. Again, owners couldn't do more to help and make you feel welcome and we were lucky with the weather. Would use again.

A wee gem of a site! Secluded, beautifully peaceful, the perfect place to switch off from the world. Margaret and Hamish wonderful and helpful hosts. Facilities well maintained with lots of little extras, especially for campers, which we haven't seen anywhere else. We had a lovely holiday here. And there are NO midgies, despite the name!
