We only stayed for one night on this site but the warm and friendly welcome we received from Hamish & Margaret was gt.
The site is quiet but the surrounding scenery is lovely and the red squirrels! Well worth the trip
We shall be using the site again

Lovely secluded small site. We saw red squirrels, eagles and herons! Very warm welcome, Hamish even gave us some tape to mend our tent pole which had broken in the wind by Loch Lomond! Pub at Auldgirth is ok, surrounding countryside very pretty. The ground is hard as has been mentioned, you've just got to bash those pegs in with a mallet at an angle. Also could do with an extra loo. But the drying barn (we needed it!), and toaster were very nice touches, as were the laminated walk cards.

Lovely site, ground very hard for tent pegs but possible by putting them in at an angle. Warm welcome by Hamish and family. Watching red squirrels at 0600 worth getting up for. The only problem being one toilet/washbasin/shower on site which makes for long queues when site full. Really quiet.

Booked for Easter, however we had major problems on our arrival - our van had an electric glitch. Hamish was very helpful and tried to help us solve the problem but we were not able to - so after about an hour we decided to head home and try and sort the electrics out. Can not comment much except to say the site seemed clean, tidy and the toilets were immaculate. Many thanks to Hamish for his help and we will try to visit later in the year.

This is a perfect little 'adult only' site in a beautiful setting, surrounded by peaceful woodlands and hills. It's easy to get to and within a short drive of Dumfries. The site owners are really friendly and helpful which is nice. The single toilet and shower are good and very clean. The site also has facilities for campers to cook, wash-up and dine in one of the outside buildings. Pitches are grass and level but beware the ground is very hard! Think campers may struggle a bit.
Some very pleasant walks from the site and plenty do in the area.
We would visit this site again.

My wife and I have just spent 10 days at Glenmidge Smithy with Hamish & Margaret and we would just like to say that we would recommend this site as one of our favourites. It is situated 2 miles from Auldgirth along a minor road and a someonwhat narrow descent into the hamlet of Glenmidge. this is at the head of the glen towards Dunscore. The scenery around here is oustanding! Hamish can tell you of all the walks around from 2 miles to 5 miles duration, and is a mine of inspiration as to the local wildlife, mountain biking in this area is also very good! The site itself is very level with very good drainage, the shower & toilet are of 1st class quality & cleaned every day. There is also a washing machine and sink area + table & chairs if you are minimalist camping, all in the dry! There are 2 pubs within 2 miles all serving meals, Dumfries is about 10miles away.a great place to visit. The highland gathering was great fun!
