Lovely little campsite next to a river. Very clean toilets and showers. Showers 50p for 10mins hairdryer 20p. Friendly owner and a pub across the bridge. Booked for 4 nights enjoyed so much stayed extra night. Well worth a visit. Great area for walking and very close to scarfell. Don't miss a walk along the lake. Views out of this world. 3 miles from nearest well stocked shop. Would recommend this site.

A wonderful site, toilets and showers very clean hot showers. The owner was very welcoming and there to help if needed, George the resident black lab was there to greet you on arrival and could be seen doing his regular rounds or having a swim in the river. The site is close to the Bridge inn where the food is good and dogs are welcome in the bar. Near to lots of walking and beautiful lakes and quiet villages.

Lovely site, in a fantastic location. So tranquil, shown to our plot on arrival and given an extension lead as our pitch was a little too far from hook up point. Nice peaceful break in a lovely setting. The little River running by the site was lovely gave the kids something to do, especially when the sun came out.

Just returned from this little gem of a camp site after a 12 day stay with my wife and 2 children and have to say it is superb. The owners are very friendly, helpful and accommodating.
Most of the pitches are situated along the bank of the river with some opposite at the top end and some near the road and bridge ( not a busy or noisy road). We stayed on one of these by the road and found these pitches to be slightly larger than the others. The drainage overall is pretty good on mainly flat ( and well mown) ground. There is no specific play area for the kids BUT they are free to play ball games ( particularly down the bridge end), as long as they are respectful of others and their equipment. There are 2 showers, 2 cubicles, 2 sinks and 2 urinals in the gents and the same in the ladies ( without the urinals, of course). We never had to queue. As others have said, the showers are 50p for 10 mins but are well maintained and clean ( the owner cleans them 2-3 times a day). The owners dog ( black lab called George) is very friendly and loves kids as well as nicking your tennis balls ( he sometimes exchanges your ball for a stick or stone) he will fetch sticks from the river all day if you let him !
Nearest shop is in Gosforth ( about 3-4 miles away) which is a large, well stocked ( if pricey) shop. We used this for emergencies and did the bulk of our shopping at Morrisons in Whitehaven ( about 15 miles away), close by to this is the cheapest fuel in the area via an Esso station and is less than 1/2 a mile away from Morrisons ( 3p a litre cheaper than elsewhere).
The Bridge (pub) over the river from the camp site is a very welcoming (dog friendly)pub with excellent if somewhat pricey food; highly recommend the roast beef and the cajun salmon) with a plethora of real ales on offer.
Waswater is a short drive away after turning left out of the site, which ends up at a pub at the base of Scarfell Pike ( this pub also has a great variety of beers and food). Buttermere isn't too far away either. Coniston and Windermere are about an hour and a half away, if you are feeling brave do Hardknotts Pass; an eye opening experience !
If you want to try out a bit of coarse fishing ( there isn't much) you'll need to go to near Cockermouth as most of the nearby fishing is trout/salmon. Whilst in Cockermouth, if real ale is your bag, book a brewery tour at the Jennings Brewery. At £8 it is great value for money and very entertaining ! Seascale has a lovely beach 6 miles away but very little else to do, St Bees has a bit more.
Just up the road from the site is a lovely little cafe/crafty-souvenir shop called Woodlands serving a limited menu but some fantastic scones/cakes on offer.
To finish off, the site has wifi which can be hit and miss but you can pick up the pub's wifi too. Phone reception is also hit and miss. The owners are very friendly and helpful but at no time are they in your face. Any problems are dealt with swiftly with the minimum of fuss. If you book for a lengthy stay (10-12 days plus) you may be able to negotiate a lower pitch rate. My only critisism would be that that spacing between some of the pitches can be tight so personally, I would look at reducing the number of pitches slightly to increase the spacing. That is it though. Fantastic base for the Lakes, superb owners and more than satisfactory facilities.

This site is very well situated with a river along the site which is freat for the kids to swim and catch fish in.
The facilities are clean and althought the site was very busy and a bit crowded no queuing was required for showers or washing up. (Both kept clean).
The only down side was tents much too close so not much privacy and a slight smell from where the waste discharges into the stream. (Unfortunately right behind our tent)
The views and walks around the site and at Wasdale head are second to none and a swim in wastwater will cool you down if the sun does show as it did for us.
The Pub next door is excellent but is expensive (I prefer the Strands a couple of miles away and a lovely walk).
Overall well worth trying out especially for a quiter part of the lakes.

We stayed for a week here. Views are very lovely and the site is very nice. The downside is although the owner accepts dogs you do have to be careful as his dog is very protective over the children that come on site he is very friendly but doesn't like it when other dogs come to play with the children. There was 2 dog disagreements when we were there both of which the owners dog was involved.
The owner is very welcoming but once again we asked for a spot by the river when we booked but on arrival we didn't get one we had to wait for a spot to become available. This is not acceptable if you have asked for it and was agreed but didn't get what you asked for.
The river is lovely to sit around and have dinner and watch your children play.
Showers are 50p for 10 mins and laundry facilities are £1 for 30 mins. Both areas are kept very clean.
Alot of places to go are at least 40 mins/60mins away from camp. You do have a local esso garage about 10 mins away.
Don't expect to have a late night as it's lights out at 11. 30pm.

Myself and my brother were in the Lake District for an adventure weekend and I found this site online. The reviews were pretty positive so we gave it a go. And we were both glad we did! The owner met us on arrival and showed us to our pitch. At the time it was raining very heavily ( it is the Lake District after all! ), and the ground was rather sodden. We pitched up and went for a meal across the river at the lovely pub. Next morning we woke up to lovely weather and dry ground. The drainage was excellent on the site and there were no signs of the previous days deluge. The shower block was on the small side but was always kept clean and tidy (mens anyway). There is wifi in the laundry room which is useful as mobile reception could be hit and miss. All in all, I would recommend this site to friends and definitely stay there again.

We stayed for two nights in June. Beautiful, well maintained site with excellent facilities. Showers are very clean with lots of hot water, you will need a 50 pence piece to use them. Owners are extremely welcoming and helpful. The site is very dog friendly and all the dogs were well behaved and quiet during our visit. Our caravan was parked right next to the river and as it was a beautiful weekend, we fell asleep with the windows open, listening to it gurgling. Lovely.
We went for lunch in the pub next door and sat outside in the garden. The food and service were excellent and can recommend. We had friends staying at Nether Wasdale and joined them for the evening at The Strands Inn which we can also highly recommend. The beer is gorgeous and the staff very friendly. We enjoyed our walk home at dusk, it is only about 2. 5 miles and a very pleasant walk.
There are lots of walks in the area. There is a lovely public footpath from the Old PO to The Strands Inn. It follows the river for a while and our dog enjoyed swimming and fetching sticks. Through fields and the cleanest farm yard I have ever encountered. Care is needed with dogs as cows and sheep in some of the fields, make sure they are on a lead. The walk took about 1. 5 hours at a very leisurely pace on a gorgeous day. Lovely stay and we cannot wait to visit again!

This used to be our favourite campsite, until our last visit last month. The owner told us to pitch our tent within inches of the neighbouring tent so as to 'squash another tent next to us'. We were pitched on mud not grass and as it rained, our tent was ruined, we were pitched next to a group of young adults and could hear every word they said, as I'm sure they could hear us. Such a shame greed has prevailed. £43. 00 for two nights. Told to keep dogs on leads but on arrival the owners black labrador had free reign (double standards)and was a total nuisance whilst trying to pitch our tent. Lovely pub next door(bridge inn), but such a shame it is so expensive and the takeaway food is disgusting, as my nan would say, 'they want locking up for selling that', needless to say, we will never go back.

Have stayed here three or four times as a base for walking in the lakes. I love the location, quiet site, flat, mown pitches alongside a river with a great pub next door.
Washing facilities are good, toilers and showers could do with updating but are always clean and hot. Staff are friendly.
I have also stayed in Church Stile Farm just down the road and although that's a little cheaper with better facilities, I can't help preferring this site.
I'd have no problem returning.
