Stayed here for 2 nights while touring the area. Remote village location of Santon Bridge. Gosforth Village a short drive away if you need supplies. Attractions in the area include Muncaster Castle.
Lovely site, with riverside pitches. Owner very accommodating and laid back. New wash facilities (owner informed us the site had been badly damaged by flooding) very clean. You had to pay about 50p for shower, I think this was to discourage people passing through as much as anything. Wifi available. We opted for Riverside pitch nearer to the road, although there were better pitches, these had were obviously more popular and were taken when we arrived. Quite small site, could see it getting a bit cramped during very busy periods.
Felt a bit of a lack of privacy as when we pitched we realised the pub next door had full view of us, and is also visible from from the road - it is a very remote area with little passing traffic though. Maybe some bushes along the wall might be an idea?
Absolutely blissful being able to camp right next to a river though!
Site was clean & tidy. Good base for walking up scafell, and several other campers appeared to be doing this.
Footpaths around the site and a little coffee/cake shop within walking distance, they sold local produce - we bought some cumberland sausage & barbecued it! Lovely.
Didn't try the pub so can't comment.
All in all a lovely peaceful stay. Would consider returning if we could book one of the more private pitches.

We booked in advance and went from Friday 9th to Sunday 11th July.
The site is quite small but scrupulously clean and well maintained.
There are toilet facilities for everybody, showers are clean and well appointed, costing 50p.
There are a limited amount of electric hook-ups which must be prebooked.
There is no facility for open fires but barbecues may be used if you are responsible about it.
Dogs are permitted and a strict Poop 'n' Scoop policy applies.
The site is right beside the River Irt, which is a lovely little river but not fenced off in any way (perhaps a worry for parents of young children?)
The site is quiet, there is someone available if needed from early morning to late evening and the pub is very close by. The food there is good and the portions are big. They serve until 9pm. The pub also does breakfast 8.30 to 9.30 am (they like you to book this the night before)
Scenery is stunning, you are right in Wasdale and only a short drive from Wasdale Head (needs to be seen to be believed!)
I have no complaints at all, we had a great weekend. And it rained for most of the weekend, so that's saying something!

My new favourite site! size isn't everything! small, picturesque site, stream running along the length of it, my 3 kids (6, 8 & 10) played / paddled in it all day.
Staff very friendly helpful, excellent pub next door with equally friendly staff & nice food (big screen to watch the world cup!). Site was quiet in the late evening but still able to sit around chatting without being chastised & treat like a child like on some sites. Probably best to book (although we phoned up the morning we were going). Might go back this weekend, A+.
Ps. Toilets could do with being bit bigger (minor gripe!)

This is the nicest campsite we have ever stayed at! Beautiful location, not far from Wast Water (best view in the UK). Owners were friendly and helpful. Quiet and serene site with great facilities, although only 2 showers in the ladies - another one or two would be good.
The site is quite small but you can choose your own pitch, and we chose next to the stream which was lovely (no midges or anything either). The stream flows quite fast after rain though so might not be suitable with those with very young children. Our daughter is 9 and had a great time exploring the site without being too far away from our tent.
Definitely going to return - excellent.

After 20 years of caravanning this is now our favourite site and favourite location in England
Location is stunning next to a river nice clean facilities and with a pub serving great beer next door
As for Wastwater if you haven't visited it nothing will prepare you for such natural beauty, its unspoilt and with a backdrop of Scafell Pillar and Great Gable no wonder its been voted Britain's best view. Trust me its mind blowing
Yes the sites basic but entertain the kids with a good walk some fishing or a bike ride. This is the real lakes ! We went for a 2 hour trip to Ambleside and couldn't wait to get away, the volume of traffic fumes and general chaos was too much for us !
Make sure you follow the websites directions not sat nav, roads round here are tricky to say the least.
Go over Hardknott pass and Wrynosse pass while you're there just for the experience ! We had a picnic looking over Eskdale valley Scafell behind us sat next to a Roman fort looking out with the Isle of Man in the background
Screed Inn has the best food around absolute top notch.
Only criticism is that the site entrance is very tight this is not helped by a narrow gate I have a 5.3m caravan and really struggled not sure you could get a massive twin wheeler into the site. I'd recommend the non driver jumps out to guide you in
If your debating between a few sites in the lakes your decision is over its this one. You wont regret it !

Very nice site, quiet at night, with a good pub just a short walk from our pitch. We were a party of Five with our Caravan and my brothers Tent. The rain was our only downfall which caused problems with surface water due the the volume that fell over the 12hrs (50mm). Good toilet facilities and showers, which were cleaned daily. I would visit again.Shop was a 5 mile drive away but had every thing we needed. Lanes are a bit narrow in and out of the site.

Stayed for a total of four nights but was unable to stay any longer as site was full after pleading with owner to stay until sunday still no luck so we had to leave a beautiful setting stream at the back of us to wake up to the sound off running water every morning. The facilities are been upgraded as the ladies toilets are lovely but only two toilets and showers and the cost of a shower was 50 pence and the mens was a pound steep yes as my better half said they weren't that good. Cant say anything bad about site as more improvements are happening the pub was a must tried local ale well say a few tries that good. This site is a great site for the person who wants peace and quite with plenty of walking and beautiful scenery.

We have stayed here several time both camping and now with the 'van'. The toilets are well presented. Well the ladies are - can't comment on the mens!
Its a great little site with the river running at the side and the added bonus of the pub just over the bridge just tops it off.
Its within easy access to the rest of the lakes tho there is no shop nearby.
Its a very popular place at bank holidays so book early.

Have just returned from a 4 night stay at this beautiful camp site. It is by far the best situated camp site that I have ever camped at as far as peace, scenery and tranquillity are concerned.
The camp site was only about half full when we arrived - so we had our choice of pitches - most of which were on flat ground.
The ladies shower/toilet block is by far the best I've ever used (clean and well maintained). Although it cost 50p for a shower, these lasted long enough. The gents however are situated in the old block which has not been renovated and my other half tells me are a little dated (but still clean!).
An excellent site for peace and quiet and ideally situated for walking. Will definitely be visiting again.

Found this site by chance as our original choice of campsite was extremely busy when we arrived.
This site is very clean and tidy with refurbished toilet and shower facilities which were cleaned to a high standard every day. The children (13 & 8 years old) loved the stream running alongside the site and they also made friends with other children whilst playing in the field provided for football & other games.
Overall I can't complain about much at all. Maybe a little more room between pitches would help but everything else was fine. Plenty of dishwashing facilities and even a laundry room. The price for 2 adults, 2 children and a 6 berth tent was £20 per night. This seemed a little steep as it worked out slightly cheaper for those with caravans!
The weather was mixed with heavy rain on our first day, sunshine and cloud on our second and glorious hot sunshine as we were leaving!
Nice site and good of them to let us on here seeing as we hadn't booked.
