This is a very nice well kept site. Many of the pitches back on to the river which our king Charles loved splashing about in. The site was quite empty being April.

We did wonder whether it would feel cramped if it was full. The loos were clean and bright and the showers.

There is a tea room an gift shop up the road and round the corner - 5 mins stroll. The pub next door is very nice and very friendly.

We will definitely go back to this site.

Arrived at lunch time and was greeted by a lovely warden, showed to our post and instantly felt at ease and welcome. Also a beautiful dog, called George made himself very comfortable with us and was great to play with, yet wouldn't retrieve his ball unless it was in the water!

Toilet facilities where very clean, no bugs or insects anywhere!

The tent pitch was dry and plenty big enough for us in a six man tent and the car parked in front, except we were quite close to our neighbours.

The camp site is out the way so quiet yet reasonably close to everything, shop being only 3 miles away, which sold everything that was needed.

The river running alongside the campsite was in full flow when we arrived and the rain didn't stop it, the only bad comment I could say is that the river made me need a wee during the night!

Would recommend it to everyone! Best Easter weekend of my life! Me and my partner really loved it, thank you to them again! Best wishes!

We've just returned from a 10 day tour, taking in Edinburgh, Dumfries and Galloway, and Eskdale. The Old Post Office was our final stop and after being pitched on a big site in Scotland we found The Old Post Office to be much more to our liking.

The site is idyllically situated in a small village next to the river (which was raging after heavy rain!). Upon arrival we were greeted by the warden and shown where to pitch our two tents (two 4 man tents).

Although we were given just one pitch for both our units we had enough space but were quite close to our neighbours but this was consistent throughout the site and it was peak season after all.

Despite torrential rain the pitch drained well (as you'd expect on the bank of a river) and although we were concerned at times, the river level was well below being 'dangerous'!

The facilities are excellent and very clean. Two showers in both the male and female blocks, and although it does seem a shame to have to pay 50p for the use of the showers, we didn't mind too much as they're modern and spotless (could just do with new shower curtains).

On-site there isn't much else other than washer and drier (coin operated) and some leaflets in the 'office', but it's the lake district and there isn't much else needed!

We spent our days mainly in the Eskdale valley where our parents were staying at the Brookhouse pub (brilliant food and ale). We walked the fells, drank the beer and enjoyed Wainwright's favourite Lakeland views - wonderful.

We called at Ravenglass on the way home and took in Muncaster Castle which is well worth a look. Eskdale valley is a 10 minute drive over the adjacent pike from the campsite and provides several pubs and a village store at Eskdale Green. The Bridge pub is next door to the campsite, but we didn't have chance to try it - will do next time.

Overall, The Old Post Office provided the perfect base to end our trip and to explore this side of the Lakes. We'll be back to walk up Scafell Pike (hopefully the weather will accommodate us next time) and will use The Old Post Office as our base.

The site is small and well kept, all pitches are close to the facilities and river. Mostly level and in a descent sized tent you still have plenty of room. Price is good and short walk to a cafe and pub, if you want a change from BBQs.

The river is a big plus, very pretty and the kids played in it all the time we were there.

George the owners dog became a companion for the kids, returning their toys from the river bank.

Gorgeous site we will be returning next year and we are excited at the prospect.

This sitet was a little gem, we weere a family of four. Only two showers and toilets, for men and woman each but spotless clean.

A river runs through the sight and went fishing the four nights we stopped caught 32 small brown trout, and they all went back.

Pub across the river with real ale and the food is very good.

The only problem we had was the ground, had one night of heavy rain. We were washed out, had to move our tent. So we had two pitches in the end, but that was not a problem for the owners. They would do anything to help you

 Excellent site!

Family of 4 stayed 4 nights over August b/h weekend, site quiet and friendly, even though full.

Located next to River Irt and an 'A' road, which was not too busy or noisy.

We pitched next to river, kids loved playing in it, take paddling shoes/wellies as river is stoney. River is fast flowing and deep in certain parts. Resident dog 'George' is friendly and enjoyed catching sticks thrown by the kids.

Some tents were quite close together, not a major problem though. Pitch got a little muddy after heavy rain in night, but it's camping & what do you expect in the Lakes!

Toilets - 2 loos and showers in each block, kept clean, toilet roll and soap well stocked. Hooks and a bench in shower to keep your belongings dry. 50p per shower (me and my daughter could have a shower each on one 50p, there was a curtain so one showered whilst the other one got changed. Tight I know, but site fees were nearly £30 p/n and all adds up!)

2 washing up sinks - free hot water and plenty space to wash and dry dishes, all kept clean and fresh water tap had a clean hose to fill your water container. Owner went round emptying bins and toilets mopped several times a day.

Small area fenced off for play area ideal for ball games, no play equipment but not a problem as kids loved playing around site or in river.

Pub across road very welcoming, only went for a drink but the food looked delicious.

We drove about 2 miles down road (left out of camp site) and ate at The Strands Inn which was amazing and had own brewery!

Take plenty basic provisions no on site shop and nearest about 3 miles away at Gosforth. Larger stores Tesco/Asda at Whitehaven or Barrow in Furness a 30-45 minute drive.

Nearest 'lake' is Wastwater, beautiful scenery, and peaceful. We walked up Irton Pike just behind campsite with spectacular views to Scafell and Sellafield in the distance!

Our route to site took us across Hardknott and Wrynose Pass quite narrow and winding, not for caravans or in bad weather, but great scenery.

Will definitely return again, highly recommended!

This campsite was lovely, quite small but I'm not complaining and it was well maintained. The owner was very helpful and put our group of 8 adults and 8 children together and we had plenty of space.

The toilets were cleaned regularly which meant they stayed clean. There was a lovely stream where paddling was great. There were birds nesting in the ashtrays outside the ladies toilets which the owners had put up signs so they wouldn't be set alight!

The eight children (all boys) enjoyed the play area although when one group of kids were on it(playing cricket) there was no room for any other children.

There is an area for recycling bottles but I was a bit disappointed that there were no facilities for recycling of cans (we got through quite a few)

The campsite was about 9 miles from Wasdale head as climbing scafell was our main reason for visiting cumbria. The scenery towards Wasdale was stunning. There is a pub opposite the campsite but we didn't go in because the weather was so lovely.

All in all we have a fantastic time the campsite was small, quiet and clean and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone!

Stayed for second Easter week and it was lovely.

Not only did we hit lucky with the weather but think we hit lucky to find this site. I booked through them direct but did find sometimes communication was poor (just be persistent).

Only has 2 toilets and showers at 50p for a hot shower which we never had to queue for even though the 2 weekends we were there were very busy, plenty of washing up facilities with 2 doulbe sink stations.

The Bridge Inn a very short distance supplied very nice but a tad expensive meals (the house prawn salad is a must) if you get fed up with bbq meals and has a very cosy bar area.

A quite site beside the river with easy access for a number of walks in Wasdale and only a 10 minute drive to the breathtaking views of Wastwater, with some lovely spots for a picnic and peaceful surroundings its like heaven.

We were in a caravan and I agree that sometimes in peak times the tents are very close together, even close to caravans but I would not say that would put us off going again as we enjoyed it so much.

Only downsides to this site are TV reception is NIL, we spoke to a few people who were surprised by this as the website gave impression it was good but disaster was diverted as the Bridge Inn had the Royal Wedding on, also the roads leading to it from both sides are a bit precarious.

Just returned from a Easter weekend in the lake district. Very daunting roads to this campsite, the road that we approached on seemed never ending site and could do with better signposting.

The site itself is lovely only two toilets and two showers but never had to queue found showers and toilets to be basic but clean.

Pitches were level, nice play area in middle of field for children to play. Overall a little gem of a site in beautiful surrounding, I fell in love with the lakes, the area is stunning.

Cant wait to return to the lakes but for a week next time but to a different place, but if you go to the western part of the lakes give this site a try, it's a little gem

We stayed here for 1 night in September when we were touring the Lake District. Stumbled upon the campsite by accident but very happy we did! If you like a small, quiet campsite with decent toilet/showers then this is great.

The site is next to a river which may not be ideal if you have younger children with you as it does not have any fencing. It is relatively flat in most places and there are allocated pitches. When we were there it was quite empty with only 3 other caravans and one tent so we chose a pitch near the river. Some pitches have electric hook up.

The toilets and showers were always immaculate despite the rain and mud. There were 2 toilets and 2 showers for women and I think the same for the men. The showers were 50p, lasted around 10 mins and were lovely and hot.

There was a pub literally within stumbling distance across the other side of the river. The food was good and there was lots of it.

Wasdale water and Wasdale head are about 5-10 mins drive away and I think this is one of the best parts of the lakes. It is quite remote and we only saw about 10 other cars when we were there. The scenery was stunning.

There is a great little coffee shop just up the road which also has a gift shop. The cakes are certainly worth visiting for!

The owner does have 2 dogs that are usually off the lead but are very friendly.

I would definitely stay at this campsite again especially during the off peak season as I would imagine it might get quite cramped in the summer.
