Thoroughly enjoyed out two night stay here. Lovely weather helped though, as I suppose it would anywhere.

The site has three toilet/shower blocks; ladies, disabled and mens. The former two have recently been rebuilt or refurbished and are very modern and smart, so I'm told. The mens are probably next on the list. They only have one shower and one wc; the shower being a whole pound (the others are 50p). However, it isn't a huge site and we had no trouble with getting to use either.

The site is next to a small river in which I believe there are trout. However, it's a bit fast flowing past the site, so not as good for fishing as further upstream.

The site is on a junction of two roads, but the road noise is not a problem. The roads a very narrow and so you don't get speeding vehicles making a noise. We were by the river and to be honest the babbling noise from the river made more noise than the odd car on the road.

Not sure about hookups since we don't use them. I'll pay more attention next time!

The is a pub about 50 yards away. Some previous reviewers have criticised the food, we didn't eat there ourselves, but a lot of people were and there didn't seem to be any disgruntled punters. The beer was delicious, but expensive (where isn't these days). A pint of Jennings bitter comes in at £2.80; which I think is dear, but maybe I'm just out of touch.

All in all a very pleasant site, quiet, with a helpful and unobtrusive young guy running it. I would heartily recommend this site to anyone.

Spent a night here over Easter and wish we could've stayed longer. It is in an idyllic location, on the Western side of the Lakes. Close by is Wasdale, Gosforth and Eskdale and all are worth exploring.
The roads in the area are quiet, so excellent for cycling. The site is right on the River Irt in the centre of the village, where the Bridge Inn serves excellent meals and a variety of ales. There is also a gift shop, cafe and farm shop.
Facilities on site were good, with a fairly new block for the ladies, although the gents were a bit dated. Overall, excellent site!

We arrived on the Bank Holiday weekend for 4 nights. Its a picturesque little campsite with the river running along one side of it and is nicely situated for Wasdale , Eskdale and the coast.

Pitches a little on the small side, we had barely enough room for a 4 man tent and a car.

The toilet block is old and unheated but is kept clean and serviceable. A new one is still in the process of being built. The owner told us we could use the disabled facilities if we liked and other campers seemed to be doing so too. These are much nicer as they are in the finished part of the new block.

Its a well run and well looked after campsite and we had a lovely quiet time despite the constantly wet weather. The dryer in the laundry was a godsend!

As mentioned in an earlier review the pub across the bridge is very welcoming and cosy but the food is certainly not as good as you would expect for the money. We only ate there once!

Just had four days at this site and found it very good, the weather could have been better but the ground held up and didnt waterlog. The toilet / showers were always clean and not busy considering the site was full.
The owner met us at the entrance and showed us to available pitches and explained all facilities then left us to it which is all you need. The pub is 50yds away but didnt use it as is the farm shop. We will use this site again

My wife and I are seasoned campers and we have never seen a more peaceful site. It is, without doubt, beautifully situated (although you have to follow the directions carefully and slowly). We booked for three days but stayed for eight! and we intend to go back soon. The surrounding scenery is awe inspiring (WASDALE HEAD) And the Bridge Inn, a hundred yards away is perfect. A new Disabled toilet block is being built and a Laundry.

Did a one day/night stay with family x2 motorhomes.

Good little site upgrading ongoing.

No complaints.

Know the site from way back and yes the old gaddgie was grumpy.

Prices a bit high for what its got to offer, but hey its the lake district and the best bit of it.

Nice little site right next to the Santon Bridge pub

It now has new owners, who are a much friendlier than the old fellow who used to run it. They are updating the basic facilities as well with a new womens' toilet block. It's quite a sheltered pretty little site with a stream running along side it.

There is a decent cafe just round the corner up the hill, and a fantastic farm shop selling organic meat very close by as well

The pub is good and cosy, though the food could be improved.

The food at the The Screes Inn Nether Wasdale is much better and worth the short drive

Drove here from Edinburgh on a Wednesday and stayed four nights What a lovely site very peaceful, even on the weekend with lots of families and tents Very friendly helpful owners, I actually gave them a copy of the reviews and they were going to frame them. It turned out that one of the previous reviewers was actually staying on the site too. Disabled facilities great, scenery very beautiful. Pub just over the bridge, looked very busy at all times but no noise. Would certainly stay again if in the Lake District

Just arrived back from a great bank holiday weekend plus an extra few days. Campsite is still great with the addition of disabled facilities and laundry. Everything a pound but great value at that. The owner can talk the hind leg off a donkey but is extremely helpful and knows all there is to know about the area.

Glad to see that my big tent fitted on the pitch with room to spare. Showers and toilets very clean at all times and washing up area now has a roof. Weather was gorgeous and managed to paddle in the river. Kids found river great but it is very fast flowing and care is needed, keep an eye on little ones at all times. Will visit again soon.

Great site, Great location and well kept secret!!!

Excellent small site adjacent to River Irt. Immaculately kept, 5 hard standings with hook-ups, excellent toilets and lots of hot water. Helpful owner but can be talkative if not busy!

Many local walks. Meals at the Bridge Inn (3min walk) www.santonbridgeinn.com/ at bar or in the Bistro or Eskdale Room. Breakfast available.
