We had a lovely time on this site.
Good points:
Clean showers / toilets / washing up and laundry facilities even when very busy
Next to the river - our lads spent hours playing on the edge of the water (families with small children BEWARE as access is easy)
Next door to the pub and a short walk from an excellent teashop / gift shop
FANTASTIC Location for walking and bird watching
Peaceful - apart from the jets and the heavy traffic on the bridge early morning - if you are at that end of site
Small site so children can't get lost
Less good points:
The rules about spacing between units were ignored and we were very anxious at times as many of the tents were very close together. Also this means that we could hear every word of every conversation / every sniff / every snore etc etc from our neighbours!
Some parts of the site do get very boggy in the wet
It is easily accessible from the road which may be a concern for some
Would we return - yes I think we would.

We are a couple with a boxer dog & have all thoroughly enjoyed our recent, 5 day stay on this beautiful site, in a tent, right next to the river & not a midge bite between us!
We were blessed with glorious sunshine every day & enjoyed several walks in Wasdale & Mosedale valley (there are plenty of flat walks if you're not up to scuttling up Scafell Pike like a mountain goat, most of them punctuated by pubs, if that appeals. Ahem) some decent cask ales & a hearty meal at the Bridge Inn, adjacent to the campsite - which also offer a take-out facility for the real ales, always a bonus!
The on site owner & warden (I believe it's usually his son in residence) was friendly & unobtrusive & when asked always offered plenty of suggestions for shopping & leisure activities. Gosforth, a few miles up the road, was fine for basics & several miles further Seascale offered a large, free carpark; a well stocked Mace shop which didn't have hiked, tourist prices; a sprawling, sandy beach & a large, grassed area overlooking the sea with plenty of picnic tables & a good children's playground (a chip shop, bakers & butchers amongst others). Well worth a visit at less than 10 mins drive away.
Toilet blocks were immaculate, even when the site was full to capacity over the w/e. 50p for hot showers.
Two washing-up points, both with 2 sinks with constant hot water. All taps provided drinking water.
It is only a very small site (which appealed to us) so in busy times don't expect to be able to cartwheel around your tent without coming a cropper on neighbouring guy ropes.
Personally I wouldn't recommend this as a great site for families, simply because there aren't really any facilities geared towards the kids & it is promoted as a 'Quiet Site'. But, if your children are happy paddling or fishing & can entertain themselves with ball games then it's more than adequate. Just thought it was worth a mention as I did hear several kids moaning about being bored! Church Stile site, just up the road, is also owned by the same people however & gets good reviews & seems to have more to occupy the kids (see here http://www.Ukcampsite.Co.Uk/sites/reviews.Asp?revid=4872)
Dogs welcome but must be tethered at all times. Ours enjoyed being able to amble over the bank at the back of the tent for a wee paddle and drink to cool off.
We aim to try a spot of trout fishing (rods available from the warden) if the river is higher & the fish a little bigger next time.
We found this to be a lovely, generally quiet site, in blissful surroundings & were lulled to sleep every night by the stream.
We intend to revisit in a few weeks time - only 40 mins drive for us but it felt like a million miles away.
No complaints so I'm giving it a resounding 10/10

Lovely camp-site in a stunning area.
The camp-site is next to the River Irt in one of the most beautiful and unspoilt parts of 'Lakeland'.
Care is needed if you have toddlers as the access to the river is open and it is quite a fast flowing river.
The Bridge Inn pub is just over the river and serves lovely food, although it can be very busy.
The facilities like the site are small but immaculately clean and appear fairly new, and the campsite is well maintained and peaceful. Not the cheapest site but definitely one of the cleanest.
2 issues to be aware of. I have used this site twice and each time I have prebooked a 'large pitch with electric hook up and sent a deposit in advance.
1st time I was squashed into a corner ( with a big tent!)in order to reach an electric hook up and the second time I didn't get the electric hook up at all. Although not the end of the world, but annoying when I had pre booked.
2nd issue. Avoid pitch 11. The waste pipe from the drains empties into the river at pitch 11, and you can get quite a nasty wiff on that pitch!
That aside it is still one of the loveliest little campsites to stay on

Had tried to book for one night over the bank holiday weekend but was told they were full but we winged it and turned up on the day and were told they had space. We only had a small tent but were put in a very small space between two larger tents, which didn't particularly bother us as we were only staying for one night and using it as a base, but I think our neighbours weren't too happy!. We were put overlooking the river and every so often there was a very nasty smell of effluent wafting around from the direction of the river, though we never quite sussed what it was.
The toilet block was lovely and clean, I had to go to the toilet at midnight and found the owner in there cleaning the showers, bless him. The site got extremely busy during the course of the day but suprisingly enough there was very little noise - we were in bed for 9pm and nobody disturbed us!.
The pub next door was a god send given that we had got extremely wet and cold during our walk on Saturday and we did originally book a table for our evening meal however we got there earlier and saw that the place was filling up so we stayed put. We both had the curry which was that night's special and it was lovely!. A very short walk from the pub and over the stile off the bridge directly into the campsite to our bed was the perfect end to the day. I don't think we would go back, but its a lovely little site. I personally thought that the price was a bit steep, but then most of them seem to be these days!

Went for 3 days (myself (female), and my 2 sons aged 5 & 10).After reading reviews decided this sounded like the ideal site for our first trip. We were very lucky that we had lovely weather for the 3 days as the site is in the middle of nowhere so not a lot to do.Good flat pitches, however we did have to pitch very close to the next tent for every one to fit on their pitches.
Showers/toilets and wash up area always clean and never had to queue for showers even though only 2 of them. Childrens play field is only small, can't have many people on at once playing different games, my eldest son wasn't impressed.
The Bridge Inn next to the site is really nice, serves good food. They do allow dogs inside even when you are eating which I did find off putting.
Would recommend if you are looking for a quite get away site, we never had any problems with noise (apart from the occasional fighter plane over head!). The road that runs along the front of the site is an A road and was quite a busy road and I wouldn't feel very safe walking any distance along it.
I wouldn't return as already been there but I would recommend to anyone. Was really happy with the cost for us for our stay which included ELH

Great site to use when walking up Scarfell from Wasdale, it was about 10 mins from the car park.
The new toilets and showers were really clean and tidy. It was 50p for the showers but worth it.
There was no shop on site but this isn't a problem if you stock up before you go.
We were in our motorhome and friends were in a tent and we could park next to each other, this made a nice change as usually we are on different fields.
The pub was great with a selection of different brews. The meals were not expensive but big which is just what you want after walking up the mountain.

We booked this campsite the day before we arrived and fortunately managed to get a pitch as it was fairly full when we arrived. The manager was very friendly and we were allocated a pitch right next to the river (about half the pitches are). The ground was nice and flat and the tent pegs went in really easily.
There were quite a few children around having a whale of a time in the river floating down on rubber rings and an inflatable dinghy. They were very well behaved and soon made firends with my daughter.
I could go on and on but basically we thought:
- the campsite is in a great location for the things in the immediate vicinity (river, pub, cafe) and further afield (Gosforth, Wasdale, Railway, Seaside).
- it is clean with good facilities
- it is quiet but very family friendly
We'll definitely be going back soon!

We have just returned from a weeks visit to The Old Post Office which, on the whole, was very enjoyable - even the weather behaved for the majority of the time.
With respect to the site, the positives first:
Flat level pitches
Beautiful location
Great views
Spotlessly clean
Well maintained
Great pub serving good food less than a minute away
All in all good albeit we wouldn't 100% agree with the majority of the previous reviews as there are some negatives:
Pitches very close together to the point of overlapping guy ropes.
Toilet and shower facilities are extremely cramped, expensive and were insufficient in number to cater for the number of campers on site - although we do appreciate it's peak season.
Would we return? Probably not as we tend to prefer a quieter site with more space.
On a final note, and this is not a big gripe, the 'children's play area' is a fenced off piece of grass - there is no play equipment which somewhat disappointed out 6 year old Grandson.

This is the first time we've stayed here after reading the the other reviews and have to say that we'll definitely be staying again.
We booked the site via email as had real trouble getting through on the phone. When we arrived we were shown to our allocated pitch which was right at the side of the river, couldn't have asked for a nicer view. My only criticism is that the 6m rule was thrown out of the window, being the school holidays the site was fully booked and we were crammed in like sardines with only about a 1m gap between our tent and the tents either side.
There's 2 separate washing up areas each with 2 sinks and a male and female shower block each with 2 showers and even though the site was at capacity I have to say the sinks and showers were spotless at all times and never had to queue for a shower. The showers are 50p (so make sure you take a supply as there isn't an on site shop).
At night there wasn't any noise after about 10ish but was woken each morning about 7ish by other campers (so no lie ins !).
The Bridge Inn is literally at the site entrance, the food was good (huge portions)and has plenty of guest real ales.
All in all brilliant site, just be aware that peak season you might feel that your pitched a little too close to one another the reason why I've given an overall rating of 9/10.

Aside from the fact that we were obviously surrounded by mind blowing scenery, this site was absolutely top notch. The grass for pitches was flat, next to a fast flowing river (Irt) with salmon in it, and literally the other side of the river was the Bridge Inn pub serving reasonably priced beer and fantastic food (Cumberland sausage was my choice, trust me its awesome).
The toilets and showers were clean and readily available, being a small site, and the staff were courteous and un-obtrusive. The local area is a quieter part of the lakes with some fantastic views and walks and we would highly recommend both the site and area. Me and the missis had the best 3 nights camping ever.Enough said I reckon!
