Nice campsite in an idyllic setting with a river running by, well suited for the many walks and hikes in the area. There is a quiet road adjacent, but very little bother from cars.
The pitches are mostly flat and well spaced and the campsite is kept clean and tidy.
The owner/operator is friendly and accommodating.
Is a little on the expensive side compared to some campsites, but is worth it every now and then.
The toilet and shower facilities are well maintained and reasonably clean and there is adequate washing facilities.
There is a pub right next to the site that serves food and real ales and is nice to visit for a drink after a long walk, though I haven't sampled any of the menu.
I have visited the campsite twice so far and would definitely visit again in future if the opportunity arises.

Found this site on the internet while looking for somewhere to stay in the lake district, we are so glad we found this campsite its in a wonderful location with excellent hosts. The hosts were so helpful and accommodating we picked a pitch that required a longer electrical hookup and they came to the rescue which meant we could pitch near the water like we hoped we could. They used a splitter for the electricity and gave us a loan of an extension. George the dog was a character and the cat was so cute. The actual location was ideal for us although not avid walkers the views were amazing and plenty of walks for us to enjoy. I would certainly recommend this site to anyone who wishes to tour the lake district. Very family and pet friendly. Kids have a ball. We will definitely return soon. Hope you have as good a time as we did. The toilet and shower facilities were immaculate as a person who is very fussy of these types of facilities we cannot fault the cleanliness of them. Also washing machine and tumble dryer which was an added bonus. With it being quite a small site there were two locations available to wash dishes etc and my husband made good use of them. Result. Overall brill. Thank you.

We try and visit this site at least once a year due to its proximity to Wasdale in particular and have done so for around four years now.
We like its intimacy, the river running through the site, which I enjoy fishing during my stay, and the proximity of The Bridge public house which serves great beer and food.
The toilets are clean and modern, there is adequate washing up facilities and although we haven't used them laundry facilities as well. The office has a good communication board with leaflets for all the local attractions.
I would recommend this site to anyone who wants to 'get away' from it all, it is beautifully situated.
The owners have also invested in the fabric and appearance of the entrance area making it more appealing from the roadside. It is a cracking little campsite.

Met on arrival and shown to a pitch area. Having read the reviews I was expecting the tents to be close. Location is right over to the west of the lakes but a very good location for the pub.
A nice quiet site well maintained and clean shower blocks. Having been to a few more camp sites thought a little on the more expensive side.
Owner very helpful with where to go advise, we went left out of the camp and towards the lake, about a 6 mile walk but well worth it.
Overall view though very nice site if you don't mind other tents being very close.

Just returned from this lovely site in Western Lakes. A relatively small site with 40 pitches set by the river Irt. On arrival we were greeted by the friendly owner who showed us where we could pitch then left us to choose where we wanted to go. We chose a pitch by the river. Pitch was level with room to put our windbreaks. There are 2 loos & showers for men & women in separate blocks. Very clean & they seemed to be cleaned more than once a day. 50p for a hot 10 min shower. Freezers available free of charge. My husband said that the disabled loo/shower was rusty & in need of sprucing up. My only gripe was that it said dogs had to be on leads but a lot were off their leads & I am scared of dogs. All in all a really lovely site. Oh and a pub within a stones throw.

This is our second visit to the old post office campsite. The site is at the same high standard, electric points, lovely clean showers only 50p for 10 minutes. Its great to come to a campsite were you can relax without being crammed in and without noisy campers, which is down to excellent customer service by the owner and his parents. River runs through campsite. There is also cottages they have to rent, which we would like to go to when its cooler. There is so many places to visit, we wished we could've stayed a lot longer than 4 nights.
Santon Bridge pub 1 minute walk from the campsite-good choice of bitters, food good.
Woodlands Café very relaxing, excellent food, we had pot of tea between us, very large homemade scones, home made bread salmon sandwiches and egg mayonnaise for £7. 50 each. 10 minute walk from campsite.

This is one of our all time favourite camp sites. After a gap of several years, my wife and I along with our dog have just spent the May Bank Holiday there. We first discovered it over 15 years ago when it was much more basic and less known. It's in a sheltered riverside location (lots of riverside pitches), well drained, only ten minutes from Wasdale Head and not much further to the coast. Really nice low level walks from site too.
The site facilities have been improved dramatically over recent years under new ownership, indeed they are outstanding considering the small size of the site. There are separate male and female shower blocks each with two showers (50p for 10 mins) and two toilets, two covered washing up areas and a laundry room. There are EHU pitches for those that want it. It's busier and better known now but has retained all its character, and the new owners are very welcoming.
The pub next door is excellent with the full range of Jennings beers and a good food menu, albeit slightly expensive.
Still one of our favourite sites but make sure you book!

We stayed at this site for 5 nights and would recommend this site to anyone. It is in a beautiful setting right by the stream. The facilities are adequate for off season but we would imagine that during high season 2 toilets and showers just wouldn't be enough.
The owner (and his dog) are very friendly and helpful. There is a pub just across the stream that serves wonderful food if cooking is not for you! All in all we enjoyed our stay there and felt the price was reasonable, the site well placed for some wonderful walks and a real 'get away from it all' stay.

By far my favourite site so far, small and friendly, spotlessly clean, even though the site was filled to maximum capacity the toilets and showers were very clean at all times,
Takes tents caravans and motorhomes with electric hookup some hardstanding pitches. There is a lovely river running right alongside the camp where children can play or fish even. Though the site had no swings etc. There were plenty of children having a great time,
The pub next door sells takeaway fish and chips and flaggons of beer along with free glasses! there is a tea shop a few hundred yards away selling bread, cakes, and a selection of other produce and I must say everything we had from there was delicious, especially the flap jack!
There are lots of lovely walks from the camp towards waswater and nether wasdale which is a very pretty village with 2 pubs and a hotel. We climbed scarfell pike from the camp which is aproox 4 miles away.
I would recommend this site to anyone. Our motorhome is 7m long, the roads are a little narrow in places, but we had no trouble getting there, as there are many passing places along the roads definitely worth a stay. Look out for george the sitesblack labrador dog he's adorable!

Second visit, however unfortunately this time at the jubilee weekend and the campsite was too crowded with not enough space between units and not enough toilets and showers.
However would recommend this campsite out of season as it is usually quiet and relaxing. Weather not great for June but we still managed to get out walking every day both mountains and coastal.
My overall rating is based on this trip but would have been higher for the first trip
