Just back from an awesome holiday at Greenacres. Highly recommended.
Location: pretty perfect. About halfway between Glastonbury and Wells. Both lovely towns well worth visiting, each about 10 minutes away, but very different in character. Lots of lovely cafes and restaurants and attractions like Wells cathedral, Glastonbury Abbey and Tor. Access is down some single track country lanes, but with plenty of passing places. We had a trailer and had no trouble. The gate is on a corner so some care needed here if you have a trailer, or motor home.
Facilities: huge, huge, huge field with very spacious pitches around the edges, and plenty of room to play in the centre of the field. Children's play area with slide, swings and play houses. Kids loved this, and there were lots of families, and all the children played together. Very friendly atmosphere.
Toilet block clean and functional. Rarely had to queue for toilet (and if I did, only for a minute). Never had to queue for a shower. Only 4 showers, and a little on the small side. Push button, fixed head, fixed temp. Because the curtain hangs so closely to the shower, they weren't the best. I struggled with the size of them, and I'm only 4'11' and a size 12. No idea how you'd manage if you were a big bloke, but my hubby is- and he didn't moan about it as much as I did!
Two sinks available in a covered area for washing up. This could get pretty busy at times.
No elsan point, which meant that it wasn't too easy getting rid of waste from the emergency potty. These are the only reasons I've marked it down on facilities.
Site sells Calor Gas, and owners very helpful in outing out our minor gas bottle issues.
Fire pits for hire, and Wifi available for an extra cost (about £15 a week I think). We got good mobile reception on the site anyway (with Three) and we even had the TV out and got good Freeview reception, by and large.
Pitches: if you look on their website, there's a plan of the site. Pitches A-J are set aside a little and probably a bit quieter, but don't offer as clear a view of the play areas. Pitches on the non-EHU side of the field probably best for sun/shade getting the most sun in the early evening.
Very level site, grass well mown and maintained, and seemed well drained (although it didn't rain much while we were there).
Definitely, definitely recommended for exploring this part of the country. A lovely site, and we will definitely be back.

Whilst we had a lovely three night stay here there were some negatives that I'd like to make people aware of. I went on my own with four children ranging in age from 14 to 6. The little ones loved it but the older one was a little bored as most of the facilities were aimed at younger guests. There was also an incident with two girls that lived there being rude and nasty towards her. Basically told they could get anyone thrown off the site if they wanted to. Not really what we wanted to be told and didn't really fit in with the family ethos that is advertised! Put that with the fact the children's play area is advertised as for under 10 years old and my 9 year old being told he was too old for it and that ruined it for us.
The shower and toilet area is very dated and needs some money spent on it. Having said that it was always clean.

It's a lovely site, fantastic setting with good views of the Tor
We received a warm welcome and had a lovely week despite the weather. Good showers with no long queues. It was nice to be able to visit the farmyard with the children.
We will definitely be going back.

We have just returned from 2 nights at this great site. It was our first time taking our 10 month old baby. The pitches were very large, more than enough room for our new 3 bedroom tent! The play area was great for younger children and plenty of room for other games. The toilets and showers were always clean as were the washing up areas. We found the fridges very useful and they even had a microwave for sterilising bottles. Although there is no shop as such, they do sell, drinks, ice creams, milk, and bbq coals as well as logs for the fire pits. I would highly recommend this site for families with young children.

Lovely site, large pitches a few with EHU. Beautiful location well away from any road noise, large area in middle of the field with goal posts, children's play area etc so perfect for families with children. They have a few animals on their farm and children were invited to watch the lambs being fed.
4 shower cubicles which as previous reviews state are on the small side but hot, clean and manageable. Separate ladies/gents toilets, only issue we had as such was cleaning your teeth in the same area as toilets. 2 outdoor undercover washing up sinks, this is where you also get the drinking water.
Owners very helpful and welcoming, always about cleaning and looking after site. Hired a fire pit which included the kindling and logs for two nights @ £20. 00. This is a back to basics campsite (as in how sites used to be) no shop, club house which is what we always look for in a site.

Liked:
The large pitches around the edge of the site allowing for a safer environment for children to play in the middle areas. The owners could so easily pack out the space with tents but they choose to keep it clear so the children can run around, fly kites (although we got two stuck in trees - sorry!), play football, play on the playground and in the mini play houses,
The owners throw everything into keeping the site happy and looking nice. They are often over at the site from their house (across the road) cleaning, raking up the vacated plots, emptying out the left items in the fridges and freezers they so kindly provide and generally being extremely helpful and friendly. The 'double' toilet seats were lovely allowing for the younger family members to use the toilets without feeling they were going to fall in and the showers and toilet areas were kept so clean.
The book library with a fair selection of books for campers to borrow whilst chilling at their tents as their children played on the play equipment.
Disliked: As mentioned to the owners two things are missing.
A washing machine (although there are laundrettes in Shepton Mallet, Wells and Glastonbury
And
A climbing frame for the older children.
These are two very small criticisms and we will happily book again if we visit the area in future.

We stayed 11 nights in our tent in what I can only describe as the most sheltered and relaxing child friendly site we have ever stayed at. The pitch was huge and we have a large tent with plenty of room including our car. All the pitches are around the outside of the flat field. There is a huge area in the middle for the children to play and perfect for you to be able to join in or sit and watch. They also have swings, slide and playhouses. There are football nets for the footy mad which our 13 year old is and we hardly saw him once we got back to the campsite after our trips out.
There are 4 female toilets, 4 male toilets- separate and 4 showers for all to use. They are very clean and the showers were free and always had lots of hot water. We never had to queue. There are only 2 wash basins for washing dishes but again we never had to queue and the site was full.
The site drains fantastically well - we had torrential rain a few times during the night and one day and by the time it had stopped the site had drained.
There is so much to do in the surrounding areas - cheddar gorge, wells, glastonbury to name a few - all a short drive away.
The site owners could not have been more friendly and helpful - outstanding service.
They hire fire pits and BBqs if you don't have your own.
The fresh croissants delivered to the tent one morning was a treat - supplied by the staff.
We had a slight issue with some noisy neighbours one evening but this was dealt with quickly and discreetly by the staff. I cannot praise this site highly enough and we will be back.

Returned from 6 nights at Greenacres (Should have been 7, but a combination of bad weather forecast and an 11:00am departure time) - we opted for a relaxing pack up a night early.
Having read the reviews on this site / Cool Camping / AA 2014 small camp site winner and their web page - expectations were high.
Positives:-
Pitches are large and even with the site full did not feel crowded.
Friendly family atmosphere.
Kids play and mingle in the large open area of the one field.
Free to use fridges / freezers.
BBQ's / Fire pits allowed.
Danish Pastries on offer Saturday and Sunday morning.
Negatives:-
While the site is generally flat, you have to pitch around the perimeter, ours and others had a large depression, which could not be avoided.
Getting up close and personal with the animals - did not happen, when our daughter asked to see the hens - she was told NO.
The much hyped Lazy Dayzee crew, cater predominantly for pre school / infants and tend to be 'Girly' specific, but are expensive for what they offer.
Local traders visit site daily - did not see any in our six days, only option was the very basic staples from owners garage.
Washing up area:- Two industrial sized sinks with only one draining board - which we regularly had to queue for (the shower tray was the approximately the size of the sink). The drinking water tap was hidden away in this area - so if someone wanted to get water, you had to stop washing up, or get very close and personal with the risk of getting wet.
Showers:- Clean - yes, 4 unisex showers. But they were Very small and dated. The temperature was pre set and while fine for adults, too hot for our children. Given that the camp site ethos is family centric, would have expected to see at least one family shower with room and temperature control for adult and child to shower. As a result many children were bathed in the Belfast sink in the ladies loo.
We arrived as ex tropical storm Berth hit - Pitches 0-5, were sheltered, but many of the facing pitches 11-26 suffered breakages / damage.
Pitches A-F suffered due to the field being narrow so children could not play in front of their tent.
Older Primary school children / pre teens - not catered for and have to make their own fun.
In short would we go again - no, not unless the facilities are updated / increased in quantity and size

We have just returned from a 5 day camping trip to Greenacres camp site and all I can say is what a fantastic campsite.
Pitch sizes are more than ample. You can easily fit a tent, large porch and car on the pitch.
Facilities were spotless. The owner was always about keeping things clean and tidy. There was always an ample supply of hot water and the showers where amazing. Especially after a day traipsing round the attractions. However they are slightly small so taking a toddler in is a squeeze.
Only very very minor downside (and I really am been petty here) is the small washing up area. Could have done with another couple of double sinks.
There is a shed on site (TINformation) which contains lots of fridge and freezer space also leaflets on the surrounding attractions and stacks of books and toys which can be borrowed.
The site is very child friendly in fact it seems geared up for families. Our 3yr old loved the play area (especially the Wendy houses) and we could easily keep an eye on him from our pitch. The site had a great buzz on an evening; a mix of the kids playing and evening fires crackling. Very relaxing.
If your wishing to explore Somerset and its surrounding attractions this site is ideally located. We spent days out at Bristol Zoo, Longleat, Brean and Western-Super-Mere. All of which are within an hours traveling distance.
This was our first Long camping trip and we now can't wait to go again! Thanks Greenacres for a great camping trip!

Lovely family campsite. We were there over the late August bank holiday weekend and the large sites plus open playing area in the middle made this campsite feel spacious and never 'fully booked', even if it was. As we shower in the early evenings with our kids, we didn't have to wait for one (there are 4 unisex for use) and although the shower is a little small when there is an adult and a child inside, they are nevertheless clean and warm. Clean toilets with loo rolls and soap available at all times. Lovely feature most appreciated is the shed with the fridges and freezers. Croissants/pain au chocolate on weekends a nice touch. Local grocer comes in their van in the evenings as well. Balls, bats, table tennis (refundable deposit), playground with wendy houses all available and within great view from your tent, so you feel your kids have freedom whilst you can actually keep an eye out (we have three boys 5, 7 and nearly 9 years old who loved meeting new friends and just spending time playing outdoors). There is a fridge with milk, ice creams and own hens eggs for sale in the office. Happy campers, happy atmosphere - one of the nicest we have been to in our years of camping. Highly recommend to families.
