Stayed at Greenacres over the Jubilee weekend.
It's main advantage is its location, set right in the countryside, no car noise, only cows, sheep and birds, but it's less than 10 minutes from Glastonbury and Wells. Plenty of nice pubs within a short drive, but nowhere really within walking distance.
The camping field has tents around the perimeter, with plenty of room between pitches to get your car next to your tent. Open field in the middle for the kids to run around like loons, had small area in the middle with swings, climbing frame and wendy houses. Average age of kids was 3-8 years old. Nearly everyone had young children with them. Very peaceful and quiet after dusk.
This campsite is tents and small motorhomes only, so everyone is generally very sociable.
If I'm honest the facilities are not the best I've stayed at, with only 4 showers and 2 washing up sinks but they're kept very clean, you just have to pick a good time to use them!
The field itself is nice long grass, mainly flat, and although it rained most days of our stay it didn't get boggy.
Would stay again if I was camping in the area.

Had a lovely stay here great site with lots of facilities (another washing up sink wouldn't go a miss)
As usual it rained and rained (Bank holiday weekend) woke up to water in the tent. Or more like a pond ! 1st time for everything did put a dampener on things. Field did get boggy but it really rained hard
Pitches are huge and the surrounding area full of wildlife great for walks with the children.
Owners very hospitable and helpful.
Lots to see and do round the area which don't cost a fortune.

Visited this campsite at the beginning of August and was not disappointed. Pitches very spacious and we enjoyed one that received sun most of the afternoon. Very family orientated site and the owners always helpful. The facilities although a little basic were always very clean, could do with more washing up facilities as at busy periods there could be a wait.
Places of interest Glastonbury and the Tor, Cheddar Caves and we enjoyed an afternoon at the Clarkes Shopping Village where lots of bargains could be had.
Most nights many occupants of the site would congregate for a game of rounders or cricket, while the younger children played on the play area leaving some of us 5 minutes to enjoy a book and a glass of wine in peace listening to Status Quo and Katherine Jenkins playing in Glastonbury.
All in all one of the most relaxing camping trips we have undertaken and will most certainly be returning again.

Lovely site. Very spacious pitches (even in our huge tent!), we didn't feel as though we were disturbing neighbours as we were so far apart from them - unlike other sites we've been to where you can hear your neighbours snoring at night!
All tents positioned around the periphery of the field so the kids can play in the middle, although we were a bit disappointed with the play facilities for the kids - could probably do with being updated/added to, however the kids had a great time. I felt that they were very safe and happily pottered to and from the tent while we watched from the tent with a glass of wine!. The site seemed pretty full, but was surprisingly very peaceful.
The owners were very pleasant and chatty - even poppng by on our first evening to check that everything was ok.
We had a pitch with electrical hook-up which was great, however our only complaint was a smell of ?drains to the rear of our tent, and the ground was very boggy (although they had experienced heavy rain prior to our arrival).
The facilities were in a 'shed' type building, and seemed clean. There were 4 (separate!) unisex showers and mens/ladies toilets situated either side. The ladies toilet had around 3 cubicles and 3 sinks with a mirror. There was an outdoor sink area with 2 sinks for dishwashing too. There was a separate shed housing fridges and freezers for guests to use, and plenty of leaflets re activities in surrounding area, games, books etc for you to use.
Beside the site the owners have a barn housing a pig, but if you're looking for a 'working farm' type experience then this probably wouldn't have all the animals/hands on experience that you would be looking for.
The kids enjoyed a walk to see the glow worms one night with the owners (approx 9:30pm).
Overall, although a little more expensive than other sites, we would definitely recommend this site to all - families, couples and groups.

I had a pleasant few days here, it's a nice campsite in a great location for exploring the Somerset Levels by bike.
It's a real family site so not the site for you if you don't like kids, personally I enjoy seeing them run around, and they were all so weary with activity all was silent by 10ish. The layout means that everyone gets a view in front of them, not crammed in like some places.
Due to the size of tents these days, and probably people staying for a long time, there were big brown squares of dead grass in many of the pitches. With a little tent like mine that meant not being able to pitch on grass on the pitch allocated to me. However the owner kindly re-arranged his pitches so I could move to another pitch which was much better.
The facilities were a bit stretched, with only two sinks in the women's washroom, but I wake up early and nipped in before anyone else. The showers are great, not massive, but hot and plenty of pressure. Maybe the facilities are due an upgrade, but the owners were quick to sort out any real problems. The pot-washing facilities were excellent, with bowls and drainers provided. Never seen that anywhere else!
There is an information room with loads of books, games, and freezer.
The village has an interesting old church and opposite a village green which is part of an old orchard, which was lovely to sit in while the sun set. Glastonbury is only 20 minutes away by bike, picking up a national cycle route alongside the main road.
The other side of Glastonbury are several lovely nature reserves: Ham Wall, Shapwick and Westhay. All nice to walk round even if you're not looking for a spotted crake.

This is our second visit to this site and as before there was a large pitch, a view of the play area from the tent, free use of fridges, plenty of space and clean showers and toilets.
We came last year and since then there have been a few new additions. There is a table tennis table which you can use for free (you just have to pay a £5 deposit to the office for the bats and ball).
There is also a visit from one of 2 local farms every morning selling things like milk, eggs, meat products, croissants and pastries. One morning there was also a visit from a couple of women doing face painting, tattoos and craft.
It also seems like once a week Greenacres have a 'Glow worm safari'. Unfortunately the night it was planned in our weekend was rainy and it was cancelled, but on their website it mentions that it had happened the week before so I assume that it is a regular thing in the summer.
As our visit was in the summer holidays, I'm not sure which of these new additions are only in the holidays.
We did a couple of trips out. We went up Glastonbury Tor and (as we had a 3 year old's legs to consider) used the park and ride from the Abbey car park. It was quite pricey (£7. 50 for a family ticket) but it does drop you off quite near the top so there isn't so much of a climb.
We also sent a day at Fleet Air Arm museum - brilliant for a rainy day with small (or large) boys. The highlights were going on a Concorde and the Air Craft Carrier Experience.
On one rainy evening we went out to Whitstones Fish and Chip Restaurant in Shepton Mallet and was pleasantly surprised by the lovely food and modern restuarant.
All in all we had a lovely break here again, compared to other packed, busy sites it is like a breath of fresh air. We'll hoprfully return again in future.

We managed to get a last minuet booking for the bank holiday weekend, the website is great for up to date availability. The site was busy but as the tents were all around the outside edge of the field with a huge expanse for children to play in in the middle, with cars only being driven outside of the field it felt exceptionally spacious.
The pitches are massive and lovely and level and the site felt very sheltered. Our boys made full use of the play area which we could see from our tent and they have the most friendliest sheep, also fantastic Conker trees (they just weren't quite ready!).
On departure day there was face painting and tatoos, this seemed to go down really well as families packed up their tents. We had a fire every night and this made it for us as we could sit out until late.
The downside for me was the showers and washing up facilities. My boys didn't shower for the whole weekend as the 4 shower cubicles were straight out onto the field, no room for two in there and no where you could help them to get dressed and undressed unless you wanted to expose them to the elements and mud, even if you did manage the hold in button was too high for them to manage, it is at my head height and I'm 5'8'.
My husband also struggled in the showers due to the very small size, there are polite notices asking campers to remove their shoes before going into the showers to keep the mud out, fine if the sun is shining, however there is no provision for rainy days so inevitably the cubicles could get muddy.
On a positive note if you did get in them there was lots of lovely hot water. There was also queues for washing up and getting to the drinking water could be impossible as it is behind the sinks.
It was a shame as the sinks could be left really dirty, not the sites fault but a gentle reminder to have a quick clean up (a bottle of multipurpose spray at the side), so the next person doesn't have to scoop out someone's left over dinner would be good. The toilets were always clean with decent loo roll!
For a chilled weekend away this site fits the bill perfectly, my children loved it and the freedom and we would most definitely return.

We were disappointed by this site - it looks lovely on the website and most of the reviews on here were great but we felt that the site was very shabby and dated.
The toilet block and showers were straight out of the 1970's and looked like they were last cleaned around the same time. The children's play equipment had definitely seen better days.
On the positive side, the pitches are huge but sadly this is not enough to make us want to return to this site. A bit of housekeeping in the toilets and shower block would have made all the difference!
There is loads to do in the area though - we visited Wookey Hole which was pricey but enjoyable and also recommend Longleat which is excellent value for money. For shoppers, Clarks Village is in nearby Street.

Just returned from a great weekend's camping at this site. Three of us, mid 50s, big tent, unbelievably generous pitch with nobody to the front of us as all the tents/motorhomes are against the walls giving total free access to the georgous field. At times it looked like an Indian encampment with the smoke trickling up from campfires.
We were facing the blocks so not far to go for showers, toilets etc. I won't repeat what all the other users have written about facilities but they are the best I have experienced. Great to have fridges to store the local cider and food (note the order of importance here). Books to share as there is a deposit of the usual Mills & Boom type so not to get overly excited. Tall trees, mist at night and early morning clearing to brilliant sunshine during the day. Grass like a lawn but very wet with dew. Hardly wore shoes the whole weekend, including walking up the Tor, Dundon Hill etc.
We don't have children and the decibels can rise in the afternoon/evening as they play but if you go during the week away from school holidays I am sure it is like a meditative retreat.
The owner sells milk, eggs and cider (which are expensive but then the closest shop is a good 12 mns drive away at least).
We forgot about 'checking out' on Sunday and had a reminder call which had us doubling back quickly to find an almost empty site but we paid an extra £6 to stay till five and pack up without stress.
Other bonuses were the absence of lager lout syndrome, loud music being played and the feeling of safety and knowing your food, belongings etc were safe when you were out.
All facilities cleaned regularly and also good recycling zone.

Overall, we found this to be a good campsite, but with one significant area for improvement. The site is fairly large and only has 48 or so pitches.
It's tents only, and all the pitches are flat with ample space (you could easily park two cars between each tent).
The owners offered a series of fridges and freezers for us to use, which worked well. The only downsides were the toilet blocks, which I felt are really starting to show their age.
The water was always hot, but the showers were tiny and rather 'tired'. The cost of £22 a night was reasonable, but I think some investment in the toilet block is now necessary.
It's a very family based site, which meant you had to accept that some very young children were still charging around at 9. 30 or so in the evening.
There was no shop on site, or anywhere nearby, but there was a lady who set up a stall for an hour or so every morning, selling biscuits, croissants and bacon/sausages etc.
