Site was immaculate and very well cared for, the pitches are all hard standing we just put a couple of extra heavy duty foot prints under our trailer tents ground sheet for added protection. Had no problems pegging the unit out but our pegs are rock pegs.
The site is quite picturesque with the lake, a range of wildlife frequents the site, saw a couple of kingfishers and dog fox attempted to get at the owner ducks one morning
Special thanks needs to go to Darren for my fly fishing lesson, he has the patience of a saint. Fished a couple of times after my lesson but was not successful.
Many thanks for a great holiday

Just had a wonderful week at garlieston lodge. It was every bit as good as we imagined it to be. The site is an ongoing project for Rusty Chris and Darren and will keep improving in years to come. Just a bit too far from tees side to get there for weekends as we would definitely be regulars. Particularly enjoyed the 6pm till 8pm get together bring your own drink sessions in Rusty`s huge timber man shed. Not a compulsory thing, so you don't feel obliged, but everyone welcome, including your dogs which can interact off lead around your feet while you socialise with fellow campers. This is a fantastic venue that we will most definitely return to.
Great area for walking with fantastic views and nice dog friendly pub couple of minutes walk away with great views across the bay. Cant wait to return

This was our first visit to this site and was selected due to the numerous awards it has won over the years within the caravan and camping club network.
We initially intended going to a main club site in lake district but £470 for a fortnight when taking own accommodation, get real, so we decided on looking at CL, s and CS, s.
This site is a gem, the owners can't do enough for you, even down to helping site your van. They inform you of the amenities on site and also those within Garlieston itself upon arrival.
All caravans have good sized hardstanding pitches, and there are 3 more allocated for tents and campers. There is no regimental aligning of the pitches so everyone has their own space and no looking into next doors van, unlike the regimented rows on club sites. All pitches have electric hookup and there are a number of water points on site.
4 of the van pitches look directly over the trout lake, which makes for a lovely backdrop to chill out in. The fishing was excellent with a good head of trout of high quality and fully finned, 3 over 10lbs caught one day I was fishing, and plenty in the 5 to 7lb bracket. It is catch and release only, and very relaxing.
There are 5 large Black Pigs on site which are a rare breed and bacon and sausages can be bought on site, as are free range eggs.
There is a post office that sells all sorts just outside the gates for your groceries, a bigger shopping list will require 20 minute drive to Newton Stewart where there is a Sainsburys and Lidl/Aldi.
Good walking directly from the site and the harbour and beach are only 10 minutes walk away, as is the dog friendly pub.
The ideal site for a quiet chill out holiday, the site is surrounded by trees which shields you from strong winds and the vans in the neighbouring site.
Will definitely be back and would recommend to all thinking of staying in this area.
The toilet and shower block are better than any club site I have used and the light system used to let people know if either is occupied works a treat. There is even a selection of books and dvd, s that can be borrowed in the toilet/information building.

This an interesting site and much to more to our tastes than the adjacent CC site which seemed to offer very little space between pitches.
Garlieston Lodge is a very sheltered site, bounded on one side by a river and set amongst mature trees.
The pitches are spacious and relatively level. One thing to be aware of, is that, there are only 2 toilets and one shower for the whole site. However, the owner has been very innovative, having devised a wonderful lit signalling board (indicating if the facitilites are vacant) that can be seen from anywhere on site.
The owners also own a herd of Black pigs and rare breed hens. Their award winning produce can be bought on site. I can thoroughly recommend both sausages and bacon.
Locally the village pub offers a limited menu. If you want to eat out you may want to consider venturing further afield to Wigtown where there is a greater choice of cuisine on offer. If like us, you have canine companions travelling with you, there is an excellent beachside footpath from the harbour affording some off lead roaming.

We found this site was what said in the advert. Good space between the units. We had two very nice nights and days. Wanted to stay longer but was booked up. There is the Harbour Inn very plesant and good food. There are two shops one being the post office. The site was very quiet and peaceful. Hope to go back.

Set in the coastal village of Garlieston this camping and caravanning cs site is adjacent to the larger and we thought more comfortable caravan club site. This cs site is surrounded by trees and a stream and was a perfect haven for midges on the still warm 2 evenings that we stayed there. So beware!

This is a lovely wee site with hard pea-gravel standing for tents and other units.
Booking was easy by the internet and we had a lovely welcome from the owners.
The site is very well cared for and maintained, obviously lavished with love and attention which is for the benefit of visitors and the animals (pigs, hens, ducks etc) the owners keep.
There was plenty to look out at from the tent, lovely pond, trees, wildlife and landscape around the site.
Very clean toilet and shower facility, great hairdryer set up as is the dish-washing facilities - all in the one 'shed-type' building.
The site was well lit, the electric hook up set up perfect. We were very impressed by the wifi set up too.
Before we left we bought some of the award winning haggis from the owner. We thought this was a lovely touch and on our return we'd be keen to get more produce on site such as eggs, bacon, pork etc.
Garliston Lodge is a magical wee place - highly recommended.
Last point - remember to take your rock pegs for the pea gravel pitching because the ground is pretty rocky underneath the gravel.
Big thanks for such an excellent site x

Another stay at Garlieston lodge. In our opinion having stayed at many sites, this is one of the best. This site consistently wins awards, mainly due to the hard work of the owners in developing the site. It is well maintained and most people we have met here are 'regulars' who return to this beautiful site time and time again. The facilities are excellent and more than adequate for what, after all, is a small site. Anyone thinking of staying here for the first time should read all of the reviews and book early as it fills up quickly! finally, Garlieston itself, a small charming harbour village. Very friendly with a local pub and 2 small shops.

If you spend even five minutes reading the reviews of this site, you will see they tend to be glowing.
So here's our take-
First of all when you come through the gates, it feels a little Steptoe & Sons in the yard. There is machinery and an old caravan and sheds and junk. However the owners were very helpful and took the time to explain lots about the site and the village.
The pitches are a decent size but I wouldn't say they are enormous and only about 3 of them have a really good pond-side location. The others are further back. Luckily we had specifically asked for a front pitch and the owner had kindly facilitated that for us. He also helped us unhook and push into position so we had a great view. There are no serviced pitches but there are a couple of fresh water points and the pitches are level and gravelled.
We had a couple of niggles-
- There is no recycling - all waste goes into landfill. Also the bins were not emptied enough and for the duration of our visit they were always full to overflowing.
- There is only one waste water drain. Both it and the chemical toilet disposal are at the top of the site and dragging full tanks / aquarolls up to the top is hard work.
- There are signs asking you not to let your dog foul the site, but there are no dog poo bins.
- There is a little island in the middle of the pond and it could be very pretty, but instead it is bare.
Despite these niggles, this really is a lovely site. It has a very peaceful feel and was generally very quiet. There is quite a variety of wildlife too; watching the resident moorhen and her chicks chase off everything from the pond was quite entertaining!
There are a couple of places to walk your dog-
1) Over the bridge on the pond and into trees at the back of the site.
2) Over at the far right of the site (when looking at the pond) there is a grass path that leads off down the side of the pond, passed the pigs to a gate. Watch here because there is an electric fence that is live and right at the side of the walk. However at the gate you can then go left into the village / harbour, or right up another track across fields.
Garlieston itself is lovely. It is like stepping back in time 40-50 years. It is very small though and there is very little in the village itself, other than a Post Office (didn't go in), a small shop (very limited stock, you're better going to Whithorn where there is a well-stocked Costcutter) and a pub - The Harbour Inn (good food, great village atmosphere and allows dogs). It is surprising because also in the village there is a fairly large Caravan Club site (80-100+ pitches) so there are a lot of visitors - you would think the village would have cashed in on the tourists. I would have expected a coffee shop, a gift shop, maybe a tourist information point, possibly a gallery or two. Partly this is what gives it its charm, but in this day and age, it is surprising.
There are great coastal walks from Garlieston. We did one Southbound to Galloway House Gardens and Rigg Bay - which is lovely, but there are others too, both along the coast and inland.
Overall we had a really great stay here and will definitely return.

We have just returned from this wonderful site after 10 relaxing, quiet and peaceful days. The owner gives a great welcome and helps with the set up if needed, as well as telling you about the site and local amenities.
Site is in an excellent location with generous pitches all with very good outlooks, and has very clean and well maintained shower and toilet facilities. There is a very well thought of light system above the block to inform you if the shower or toilet are in use.
The pub just down the road gives a very warm welcome and serves very good food. Site is located near to excellent walks, cycle routes and is a short drive from Galloway Forest for more of the same.
We can't wait to return to this lovely site.
