If you want a peaceful, relaxing adults only holiday, then this is for you. Well landscaped site, with a well stocked trout lake, pagoda seating area, surrounding trees, (and we were able to get a satellite t. V. Signal), and a feeling you are miles from anywhere. The site owners are very friendly, and don't bother taking any food with you, just have their home bred pork sausages, gammon, mince or joints. And some of their eggs too. Only one shower and toilet, with continuous piped music, but this is only a small site, spotlessly clean and there is a traffic light system if they are occupied well visible from a distance. A local shop and post office yards from the site gate, and a caravan club site next door to this one enabled us to use their WiFi for internet access.
Garlieston is about 14 miles south of the A75 major route, but a stay on this site is a must.

Stayed at Garlieston Lodge for 6 nights in late July/early August, using it as a base for exploring the mountain biking trails in Galloway Forest Park area. Though it's a bit of a trek from the forest park, it was totally worth it, and there's plenty or road biking and cross country opportunities on the doorstep too.
The site is small, with a variety of hardstanding and grass pitches all with EHU available. It's an adult only site, which we loved. We were welcomed by the owner who showed us around and made recommendations about the local facilities in the village.
They have a few pigs and hens, and you can buy eggs and a variety of home-grown pork cuts from them - you must try the sausages, yummy for a breakfast fry-up!
The toilet & shower block is small - one of each, so if there are a lot of tents on site there could be a bit of a wait, but they've set up a clever light indicator system which shows you what is occupied, viewable from all over the site, so you can avoid walking up there only to find everything occupied. If you're really caught short for the loo, they let you nip in and use their house downstairs loo, next to reception.
Washing up facilities are in the same building as the shower & toilet. They've clearly been doing some work on making the site nicer, and it is lovely. There's a couple of tatty old caravans in the corner, one of which seems to have been taken over by a goat at the time of our stay, but somehow this just adds to the character of the place.
There's a little fishing lake on site, which seemed to be well used, and you can walk down a lovely private green lane most of the way to the sea front.
There's a post office just round the corner from the site where you can buy the basics. Garlieston village is small with not a lot going on, but it's a pleasant, quiet seaside village, from which you can see the Isle of Mann on a clear day, and up to the Galloway forest, across the firth.
Access to the site is through a heavy iron gate off a little back street of the village. Although it's a bit of a pain to have to jump out of the car to open the gate whenever you arrive and leave, it does mean the site feels safe and secure.
The driveway goes past the back end of another site, but we didn't encounter any noise or disturbance from the residents in there. The access to all the pitches is a well maintained gravel drive.
My one, single criticism of the site is a very minor one - that of the music playing constantly in the loo/shower/wash-up block - it was never changed in the whole time we were there and it wasn't good - it also played throughout the night, which seemed unnecessary and a waste of energy!
We'll definitely be back though - can't wait!

We stayed here for 4 nights in June. The small site was full and there was a mixture of caravans, tents and motorhomes. We had a gravel pitch beside the river and small lake which was so pretty and a lovely setting.
You can sit on the bench by the lake at night and watch the fish fight with the ducks for share of bread. The fish always win!
The site is incredibly peaceful and quiet, a great place to totally wind down. It is a short walk into the village or down to the harbour where there is a small beach for paddling or dog swimming.
A walk from here will take you along the shore for a mile or so. The pub is very friendly and we had lunch there which although quite basic (frozen scampi, chips and what tasted like an Uncle Bens sweet and sour chicken)very cheap and the owners were so nice.
We sat outside in the slightly overgrown beer garden in some rare scottish sunshine. The village shops are not terribly well stocked so stock up in Stranraer before you go, but you will get the basics.
We sampled Rusty and Christines home raised pork ribs, sausages, burgers and bacon and can safely say they are the best we've ever tasted. The ribs were gorgeous barbecued in an improvised home made marinade.
Felt a bit guilty cooking these within site of Rusty's big sleepy black pigs as I'm sure we were cooking a relative but the taste was wonderful. As everything is vacuum packed we bought extra bacon to bring home. Also the free range eggs from the chickens were delicious. W
ith the site being full including a group of tents with around 8 occupants I found the single toilet and shower got a bit 'overused' by mid morning, everything steamy, the floors wet and loo roll run out.
The traffic light system showing occupancy was useful though, saving manys a wasted journey. I ended up having my shower at night when less busy.
An extra toilet would have been useful. My hubby cycled into the village to use the public loos a couple of times.
All in all we would return here. Peaceful, friendly, clean and pretty well kept and run site.

Great little site in a perfect setting, peaceful and relaxing.
A well kept site, and the toilet block is, second to none, very clean and tidy, and the traffic light system works well as well.
The site owners are very helpful and friendly.
The village is a short 2 minute walk away with a pub, friendly general shop called Mac's Stores and
Great walks on the beach both in Garlieston and Rigg Bay which is a 1 mile coastal walk away.
Well worth a visit, We will be returning to this site.

Just returned from our second visit to this fantastic site. You almost don't want to share how good it is so you can keep it to yourself!
Pitches are really generous and most come with a view of the small lake.
On arrival we spotted deer in the adjourning field and all week never got bored with the bird song and tranquillity that comes as standard with this lovely site.
Shower and toilet work on a light system which is an excellent idea and stops unnecessary wandering up to them to see if they are free.
The village is a short 2 minute walk away with a pub, friendly general shop called Mac's Stores and fabulous walks on the beach both in Garlieston and Rigg Bay which is a 1 mile coastal walk away.
Small library and leaflets of local area available in the washing up area. Would recommend as a result of the leaflets a visit to Wood of Cree which is 4 miles from Newton Stewart. The 1 mile woodland walk opposite the car park for the otter pool is definitely worth a visit. We saw a red squirrel on the way and we returned at dusk the following day and were lucky enough to spot an otter!
Rusty and Christine are very friendly and always available to help if needed.
Site is dog friendly as is the local pub and the Bladnoch Inn (good food) only problem is your dog will return home with deep depression!

Just returned from our trip to Garlieston Lodge. The site was superb. Clean, well laid out and a peaceful haven to escape to. The toilet block was excellent and very clean. The site has chickens and pigs on site and a small lake where you can try your hand at fly fishing.
The village is a 5 minute walk and The Harbour Inn serves excellent meals at a good price and has some great locals to keep you entertained.
There is a post office and small shop in the village for your provisions.
Rusty and Christine are always available to help you out with any requirements and are really friendly and helpful.
There are plenty of places to walk to from the site with great views to take in.
Will definitely be going back here again, to escape the rat race.

Spent the weekend on this site small site set back from the harbour,
adults only great little site, basic but a delight as its run buy a great couple Rusty, Christine and the dog.
ou are made very welcome from start to finish I could not praise the owners enough just ask nothing is a problem,
the local pub on the harbour front is fantastic we had a great night with some local people, never laughed so much in years ended in a sing song, all of us well oiled on a local bitter. Rusty’s son told me the next morning that my 100 yard walk to my camper the was the longest he had ever seen; I was warned by Rusty about the temptations in the pub he was right.
All in all a cracking weekend we will remember for all the right reasons fun. Great location for fishing during the day and drinking on an evening which is what we did.
We will return soon. Never got a bite but that’s fishing sometimes.

Drive through the iron gates into a peaceful & lovely ordered world, where a warm welcome is offered by Rusty & Christine. You are met with a beautifully laid out clean campsite & when Rusty as Finished explaining how it all works, right down to the querkie little lighting system to tell you if anybody is in the toilet or shower, you are shown to your pitch where Rusty is pleased to give any help possible with siting your van & hookup.
The site is gorgeous with a small fishing lake & river running through, well shaded with trees full of birds giving you a chorus of wild bird song.
The toilet block is very well kept with 1 shower & 1 toilet/washroom, washing up facilities are there along with a good supply of leaflets for the surrounding area.
This is a fabulous site well with a visit, thank you for a peaceful stay. With no children it is perfect for those looking for a quiet time.

Just returned from a weeks camping at Garlieston and the site lived up to its excellent reputation. Rusty, Christine, Jack amd Meg were all very friendly and this goes for the whole village.
The site is spotless including the shower / toilet block. And yes the traffic light system works well.
There is loads to do in the area and The Harbour Inn serves good wholesome food and at a great price. There are 2 stores in the village selling everyday items and are open every day.
The on site chickens and pigs provide excellent eggs and sausages.
A very relaxing and peaceful break.

Very friendly welcome from Rusty (and the dogs). Super site, very quiet and although units quite close together you still felt you had privacy. Good atmosphere on the site as well. Adult only campsite which was great.
Facilities were good, shower and toilet always clean.
Only a few minutes walk to the harbour (and the harbour inn). Walked to Crugglestone castle-well worth the walk.
Looking forward to visiting again.
