A very pretty, sheltered site, perhaps nicer (for a change) for the tent / trailer tent people then the caravan / motorhome pitches.
The owners are incredibly helpful and laid back, Jack and Meg the terriers are very well behaved and the pigs are a real feature. Just outside the heavy gates is the harbour, the pub and the grocery store. The pub is very friendly and welcoming and the food is cooked more with enthusiasm than skill.
Walking in the Machars peninsula is good for the not so strenuous walker and there are many unspoilt villages around.
The facilities in the campsite are immaculate and of an extraordinary high standard for the shower and toilet (yes in the singular!). A traffic light system told you if it was vacant, so whatever you do, don't have a curry.

Just returned after a lovely Easter break. A wonderful little place! Peace and quiet reigned! Very tranquil - but a stones throw from the village pub and 2 shops. I have nothing negative to say at all! Quiet, friendly, walks on the doorstep, intersting places to visit, beautiful countryside!
The Harbour Inn serves great value meals. Bit of a funny little place - smashing bar area - very rustic, friendly and charming! The 'over flow' room is a without atmosphere and is a bit grim really. Still - meals very good and hubby reckons the Guiness is as good as that sold in Ireland!
Recommend the Bladnoch Inn for lunch. We had a lovely Easter Sunday carvery. Also ate in the Abbey Hotel in Newton Stewart - again very good.
Whithorn Island worth a visit, apparantly the pub there is lovely - but didn't get around to try it. Whithorn also worth a visit, as is Wigtown - nice little market town. (Cute market on Saturday - really nice local stuff - not the tat you often get!)
Great site in fab area. Can't wait to go again!

Stayed at this site mid week out of season 10th to 13th March. Heavy gates, bit squeaky at night may disturb locals. Owners Rusty and Christine very pleasant and helpful, Rusty helped me set up next to river. Shower and toilet block immaculate and clean, sink unit for dishwashing.
Shower pressure a bit low,but plenty of hot water free, fresh eggs by door, try them excellent.
Waste water point at toilet block up small hill, with my bypass found it a struggle with full waste container, solution empty more often. Very nice quiet and peaceful site, good base for touring area, would use again. Village has two shops, a spar and a post office one garage and a pub, the harbour inn, serves a good pint and reasonable, no food at time of my stay as kitchen not open for season. Found excellent place, the Bladnock inn 6 miles from site on road to Wigtown, opposite the Bladnock distilery, very friendly, food excellent 2 course meal £9.50. Well worth the visit, should make point of visiting when you stay at this site.

I can truly say I have never stayed on a nicer, more welcoming site. Rusty and Christine (the owners) were friendly, helpful and just all round lovely people. This visit was the first time I had been away with the new caravan, taking a friend on holiday for the weekend. We had a great time putting up the awning, with Rusty coming over the lend a helping hand - with much laughter and innovation we finally managed it!
The pub in the village was great, it was like walking into a room full of friends - we were made to feel so welcome I just didn't believe it! The dogs loved the place (and were so well behaved I thought I had brought two other dogs) and for their first time in a caravan, behaved impeccably. They got on fine with Jack and Meg, who came over several times to get to know them! They thoroughly enjoyed the walk to the village, and the runs on the beach at the harbour.
I would thoroughly recommend this site - it's quiet, peaceful, beautifully kept (the toilet / shower block is immaculate!) and the owners make you feel at home as soon as you arrive.
The only possibly criticism I could make (and believe me, it is only very slight) is that the gates to the site are quite heavy to move!
However, this is the perfect site - perfect for people, perfect for dogs - so good, in fact, I've just booked another two weeks there for next year!

What more can be said of this small but perfectly formed site? The facilities are all that can be expected, a new toilet / shower block (1 toilet & 1 shower) within a 'wooden hut' that also contains a sink unit for dishwashing.
The site also has chickens (fresh free range eggs) and a cockerel (early morning call!) as well as a herd of all-black pedigree Large Black pigs.
The village is full of friendly locals with the pub serving good food (try the steak pie) and drinks at reasonable prices. The shop / PO sells basics, again at reasonable prices. If you get a chance on your journey, visit Cairnholy near Carsluith for some fantastic views.
All in all, the best campsite we've yet visited, so much so that we're going back next month, and you cannot give a better recommendation than that. A*+

Site is situated in former woodyard of nearby Galloway Hall, and has some interesting old buildings. All caravan pitches on hard standing, with tent pitches as one would expect on grass. 16 amp elecrtic supply with easy to access hookup points. Shower and seperate toilet housed in a modern wooden building, with a washing up sink in same building. These are kept spotlessly clean.Site owner quite a character, very helpful and friendly. Village a few minutes stroll away has small shop and pub. Pub does excellent and very well priced meals. If you want heaut cuiseine and arty farty food, it will not suit, but if you want plain and well cooked meals at a very resonable price you are in for a treat. Everyone in village is very friendly. Anyone visiting this site is assured of a wram welcome, and I am sure will enjoy there stay. A first rate site in every aspect !

Excellent site with superb facilities. Very quiet although dogs from the caravan club site next to the cs can be a pain at times (usually badly trained owners letting them bark too much). Rusty and Christine are great friendly people and the fresh eggs are a bonus. For fishermen the lake is very quiet and relaxing. Being adults only is also great, not that we have anything against children, (we have 8 grandchildren) but it is nice not to have kids running around. If you enjoy great facilities and adults only I would have no hesitation in recommending Garlieston Lodge

What can you ask for? This site is a hidden gem! Clean shower and toilet spotless all the time .Very welcoming and the pub round the corner, 3 minute walk ! food first class. Very good prices. Rusty and his good lady met us at the reception and took us to our pitches. He has built the shower / toilet building himself. He never stops working on the site. Feeding tne chucks, collecting newly laid eggs for anyone who wants 6 for a quid ! We had one every day still warm !Lovely walks, the place is full of wildlife eg; red deer, hare, herons, red robin, etc
There is two shops close to site, one is a post office and they sell lots of provisions.
The only moan the ladies had was that there wasn't any clothes shops that they liked for 60 miles.
The nearest supermarket is 26 miles in stranraer. We could not fault this site, rusty has even put a couple of lights on the outside of the toilet / shower room so you can see if either one is being used! I thought that was a good idea.
This site is well a visit for you walkers who enjoy total peace and quiet.

Hello my name is boris and my human owners took me to this wonderful site, I met meg and jack who were very friendly and we played a few games, their human owners rusty and christine were very friendly without being intrusive. Apparently so I understand the shower and toilet block were great, and it was so quiet and peaceful, there are some lovely walks from the site, especially along the beach where I had a few swims. The local people were very friendly and welcoming, the fresh eggs from the chickens on the site were very tasty,m y human owners would highly recommend this site and all being well we will return. Thank you for a lovely break
