A true gem of a site! Peaceful and idyllic and perfect in every sense.We'll def be back - but next time I'll be packing my fly rod!
* Piggies
* Chooks
* Trout Pond
* Pub within hobbling distance
* local shops for essentials
The 'amenities hut' was lovely and clean and came complete with 'traffic light' system indicating occupation of facilities as well as radio music while you washed your dishes - nice touch!
All in all a great little site for hiding away from the rat race.
P.S. Highly recommend the Pork and Apple Burgers - yummy!

What a perfect location it was to utterly relax from the stresses and strains of the last few weeks. The layout and plots are spacious and attractive. The lake and surrounding gardens are lovely and so quiet and tranquil.
The shower and toilet block is very modern and immaculately clean. Although there is only one shower there was never a queue even though the site was full. Rusty has installed a useful red-light system so you can see when the facilities are occupied (you don't even need to leave your plot to find out if it is free!)
We loved Garlieston's village feel and we enjoyed a walk to Galloway House Gardens and Cruggleston Castle - which was worth it for the views alone(about 1.5 and 2.5 miles respectively). Another day we cycled to the Isle of Whithorn, (about 8 miles)which is a very pretty little harbour and we had lunch in the Packet Steamer Inn - highly recommended.
The only thing I missed was some laundry facilities but I knew that when I booked so wouldn't mark that against this perfect little site!

Rusty and Chris were great hosts (although Rusty's practical jokes took a bit to get used to - I will never forgive him for the 4 legged chicken!). The site itself was spotless and Rusty worked tirelessly each day to keep it like that. There are approx 5 pitches for vans and 4 for tents (I think). There is one toilet and 1 shower which were kept very clean. They have a great idea which I have never seen in any other site and that is that a light came on when someone was using the toilet / shower facilities - saves a walk with your towel!
We have never been to Garlieston before and were very pleasantly surprised. The locals were very friendly and made us feel very welcome.
The Harbour Inn needs to get a mention as well for the lovely food which can be taken away as well as eaten in the pub. We had many a good night in the Harbour Inn and Rusty and Chris plus Meg and Jack are regulars. The highlight is Meg and Jack drinking their pint each night. Oh, and big thanks to Hilary who made our stay even better - lovely birthday card.
The site breeds pigs and while we were there were 8 piglets and around 6 fully grown pigs. We were a bit concerned there might be a smell from them but only got a whiff of them once. There are also chickens on site which supply very tasty eggs. There is also fresh 'pig' meat on offer to buy on site as well as a “wet” fish van once a week.
There is also a large fish pond on site which is very therapeutic to sit and watch the rainbow and brown trout swimming around. Fishing is also available although we did not try that. There is a wee post office within 5mins from the site which contains most of the essentials you might need as well as an ATM.
In a nut shell, site is very clean, very friendly, locals are friendly, local pub is fun, food is great, facilities are good and hosts are the hostesses with the most’esses!
Will definitely return, hopefully in September if we can get booked!

First time camping and picked this site after reading the reviews and we weren't disappointed, it's everything it says it is and more. Were met on arrival by the owners who explained the layout of site, toilet and shower were spotless and blow heaters came on when it got a bit chilly,even had a hairdryer (no Charge)
Dog friendly which was a bonus. The site is tucked away just a few minutes from the harbour so it's sheltered from the sea breeze. As mentioned on previous reviews the pub is not the prettiest but don't be put off as the locals are very welcoming. Great site for just chilling out and some nice walks. Already booked to go back.

A fantastic little site, all hard standing pitches with electric hook-up. Single toilet and shower kept spotless as is the washing up area. The owners are extremely helpful and always about if you need them.
There is a small fly fishing lake (catch and release only)the local post office is only about 100 yards from the site and sells all the essentials, there is another shop slightly further away for newspapers etc.
The local pub, The Harbour Inn has lots of character, the outside looks a bit weather beaten, but don't be put off, the food is good and the staff and locals friendly.
A good walk is along the coastal path to Invergill fishery then return via the road or retrace your steps,about 7 mile round trip. The footpath goes through woods and farmland following the coast, there is a secluded bay half way, perfect for a picnic.

Beautiful site well looked after. Owners always on the go, nothing is too much for them. Dogs are wonderful except when in the pub drinking Guiness - the smell when they let go is terrible! The people in the village and on the site are so friendly. We were there as part of our honeymoon, when the pub owners found out we got a free drink and free sweet with our meal. Toilets and shower on site were spotless and warm. We had a very enjoyable stay and will return again soon

We have just returned from our fourth visit to this little gem and once again we were made very welcome by Rusty and Christine. From the moment you arrive and Rusty gives you a hand to site your van to the time of leaving they always seem to be around if you need them but never intrude if you don't.
The site is very dog friendly, with Meg and Jack (Rusty's two dogs) always out and about even riding on the lawnmower. George, our miniature schnauser, didn't quite know what to make of the free range chickens pecking under the van but soon decided they were part of the scenery and just ignored them.
The toilet and shower are always immaculate even when we have been there with five caravans and five tents on site
I spent quite a lot of time fly fishing on the small lake on the site and it is very handy as Trish can just give me a wave when the meal is on the table! The record now stands at 34 trout in one day. Not by me unfortunately.
As has been said in another review the area is not overly exciting but the gentle scenery allows for some pleasant walks, especially along the coast, from the harbour to Rigg bay.
This is a site for people to chill out and relax in peaceful surroundings (adults only) but there is always the village pub and shop within short walking distance (although you wouldn't know it when you are on the site). Everyone you meet in the village will say hello and will quite often stop for a chat.

We arrived on a typical Scottish Saturday ‘raining’, but Rusty came and greeted use and helped set up the unit in the downpour, giving us a great view of the small lake and hills beyond. (The weather was great from the Monday for the rest of the week)
This and other kindness shown shows just how friendly, but not intrusive the owners Rusty and Christine are.
All the units are on hard standing with awning also on hard standing as well, so there is a need for heavy duty pegs to get through the top crust. Tents are set up on the grass area and even with large berths, 5 tents fits in easily with plenty of personal space around.
As stated the toilet and shower rooms were spotless and the traffic light system looked to work fine and there is a secondary toilet on the other side of the reception if needed, although I think some of us in the caravans may have used our own sanitation instead and there is a chemical disposal point on site.
This is a wonderful quiet site to enjoy the local scenery, walks and attractions in this part of Dumfries, and to chill out in the afternoon, evening or night with a bottle of wine, the site pork and the night sky.
I would recommend this site to any one and look forward to retuning this summer

An absolute gem of a campsite! Very generous and lovely grounds complete with picnic benches and even a roofed pagoda by the lake, close to the sea front and the quiet fishing village. The owners operate a smallholding, so you will see pigs, poultry, numerous dogs, and any number of fish in the pond. We purchased some of the pork raised on site and found it outstanding for barbecueing, definitely recommended!
The facilities were unbelievable, a very modern power shower and a clean, comfortable toilet to share between the five tents, with a lending library on hand, as well as a washing up area in the same block. Very peaceful and dog-friendly! The Harbour Inn nearby serves food between 6 and 8 pm and allows dogs in; there are two shops nearby. The nearest supermarkets we found are in Newton Stewart some 15 miles away, there's a newly opened Sainsbury's and an Aldi there and a few small shops, plus a Co-op nearer by in WIgtown.
It's not a terribly exciting area, but there are good places to go, and the campsite itself is comfortable enough to want to spend some time there relaxing. We visited bookshops in WIgtown, which was excellent, and also the Mull of Galloway, perhaps an hour away by car.
All this for a bargain rate! Let's hope it stays that way forever, as we'll definitely be back.

This was our first visit to this site but it is thee best site in Scotland in my opinion. The site owners Rustie and Chris are amazing nothing was a bother and we felt like friends by the end of our 6 night stay.
The site is beautiful and really well maintained. For those camping the lots are spacious and it did not feel like a site stuck onto a caravan site.
For those who fish well this is a wee haven I kind of don't want to tell everyone about it as we loved it so much.
Would def recommend it and for those who like to BBQ try the home grown ribs mmmmmmm. Also the eggs are just amazing they taste so different.
Don't have any negative to say about this site so much so we are going back in Sept this year for even longer.
Toilets and shower spotless and you do not need to pay for them or the hairdryer. All these little things just goes to the credit of the hosts.
We had a wee dog with us and she had a ball and was made very welcome at the local pub.
This is a site you MUST visit. Just don't catch to many trout save some for us in Sept.
Lastly we are delighted that it was child free given it is the summer holidays which guaranteed a long peaceful lie in if required.
