Beautiful site, at edge of white sandy bay. Expensive though and only 3 ladies toilets, 2 in block at reception and 1 on site. Calm and quiet tues to thurs, Friday night loud and unsettled with family patties/ BBQ s until after 11.

Not suitable for those wanting a quiet time at weekend or a reasonable price £10 per adult. But absolutely beautiful.

 Far from the Maddening Crowd.
Delve deep into my soul,
I think this is where I’d be,
Sitting on a rock
Looking out to sea.
The water shines and glistens.
The waves wash gently to the shore.
Such peace and such beauty
I could sit for evermore.
The faces in the rocks
Stand guard over me,
Allowing me to share the magnificent
Of this coast so wild and free.
With the breeze on my face
The sky darkens all around
To enhance another scene.
Different colours to be found.
The sea turns to dark silver.
The rocks a menacing grey,
But it still holds a splendour
That makes me want to stay.

The lady that checked us in was friendly and in no time we were on site choosing our pitch. This is both good and bad. Whilst we dislike the regimented structure of some sites clearly not everyone can be trusted to pitch within a reasonable distance so as to respect the privacy of others. This was apparent as everyone competes for the sea view on this site. Squashing in next to each other along the site edge.

Admittedly the sea view and proximity to the sandy beach is spectacular. It is also only a mile and a half to Fionnaphort and the ferry to Iona which is well worth a visit.

Despite only two toilets and showers we found them to be clean at anytime of day and never had to queue which given the busy nature of the site surprised us.

We have two dogs that aren't interested in livestock but sheep roam the site so this may be a consideration for other dog owners.

There are no laundry facilities which again was not an issue for us but may be worth consideration to others.

Only drawback was the farmer was quite rude, which does not bode well in the customer service stakes but he may have been having a bad day!

Would we return, probably not as we have exhausted the areas interests but worth a first time visit.

This was the 1st of the 3 sites that we stayed at whilst on Mull. We were initially going to Loch Buie or Killiechronan for our first night but my husband decided to go straight here. I'm so glad we did as we arrived to warm, sunny and great weather!

Check in was very efficient and I was not expecting the site to be so big. You chose your own spot and there are no marked pitches. There's lots of room to pitch, from directly above the beach and sands, to grassy areas between the rocks, especially if you have a small tent, to pitching further back and away from the more exposed areas. We managed to find a spot with a view of the sea and feet away from the white sands.

There's NO hook up which did make me a bit apprehensive (I'm used to my home comforts AND usually EHU) but the (new?) wash block and what would also appear to be a new dishwashing room is top spec - I was really impressed.

There are only 2 showers and 2 toilets in the ladies but for a large site I never experienced a queue. There is also an electric socket in the wash block to avoid campervan hair! to plug in hair straighteners or dry your hair. The dishwashing room had several sockets for charging mobiles, tablets, iPods/pads etc as well as usb ports and a freezer - they seemed to be well utilised each time I went to wash up or charge my mobile.

The views and the beach are simply stunning and even more so when the sun shines. We walked the mile and a half (we were down the far end of the site) twice into Fionnphort. Fionnphort is where the ferry goes to Iona and has a small pub (The Keel Row) - we sat sampling whiskies one afternoon when the weather turned and we also had a meal one evening in their restaurant. It had a great, welcoming and friendly atmosphere.

There is also a food/gift shop where you can stock up with a few provisions. Just before where you get the ferry is The Creel seafood shack. Don't miss the food at The Creel - I can thoroughly recommend their Cullen Skink - it was delicious.

The road through the site and down into Fionnphort is hard/tarmac and apart from a bit of an incline in certain parts, is a pleasant and relatively easy walk providing you're fit and don't have mobility or health issues.

We wouldn't hesitate in coming back (we stayed for 4 nights) and staying at Fidden. But be aware, there is no WiFi and we had no mobile signal either on this part of the island, which of course could be viewed as a plus.

 THE BEST CAMPSITE EVER!

Wild rambling in the dunes, right next to amazing white sand beaches.

Good toilet/shower facilities although a little walk away, but a portaloo closer.

Sit back and chill and get away from it all. Walk into Fionnaphort for the store, amazing sea food shack or to catch the ferry to Iona.

On the Saturday of our 3 day stay here, the beach was named amongst the best in the UK in The Guardian. Next day, it collected the same distinction in The Sunday Times.

This really is a stunning location. We were able to place our van on the Machair above the edge of the beach. Meals were distracted by the views of seabirds, skerries, the sea and an occasional seal. The fields are so big, they could probably host Glastonbury so there is little chance of crowding. The flipside to this is the distance to the amenities block.

The owner has invested in separate toilets, a dishwash room with charging points, all quite high spec. As a result, next year's prices will go up to £10/head. It will still be worth it. Once you've paid, you're left to choose your own space and enjoy the environment.

Fionnphort is about 1. 5 miles away and can be walked or biked. There are plenty of day trips to Staff, Lunga and Iona. The shop was particularly helpful too, keeping a paper for us every day.

My son and I stayed on this site, for three nights. On arrival, booking in was very informal, from there we were left to find our own spot - no pressure, no-one breathing down our neck telling us to do this/not to do that.

Admittedly, with a campervan, finding a level spot was a bit of a challenge but we managed and secured beautiful views with no chance of encroachment on 'our space. '

The whole atmosphere on this site was one of relaxation and being allowed to 'get on with it. ' The mixture of tents, caravans, motorhomes and campervans all intermingling with each other, made for a pleasant detachment from being lined up, in perfect rows and 'You had better be on your marker. Or else' approach! The facilities, we found to be very good although only two showers per side was a bit limiting.

Quite frequently, I did find ladies waiting to get in. Ample room for dishwashing and a freezer housed in that room, for the tent folks. All in all we loved the site, especially the short trip to the ferry for a day on Iona.

We chose to take our push-bikes over to the little island so enjoyed a pleasant ride, from site to terminal and vice-versa. Summing up we could say this is 'wild-camping' with the trimmings. Long may the family keep this site going!

Superb site we really enjoyed 3 nights here in early April

Best thing we did was the boat trip to Staffa which is amazing

PROS

Location close to Iona

'Wild camping' with a fantastic view

Owners helpful and friendly

Plenty of space ( I doubt if it could ever be full)

No need to book

Plenty of beach to have campfires on

Moderate price £8 adults £4 children

CONS

If it was windy it's a quite exposed site

Just 2 showers for the whole site ( in early April there were about 20 unit s on site so not much queue but this might be different in the summer months)

Toilets were a bit dirty at times

A large informal site, no marked pitches, just grassy sand dunes. It was very busy, almost at full numbers, when we were there but still felt reasonably spacious.

The site is spectacular, around a series of shallow sandy bays with tidal islands and views to Iona.

Facilities are limited, small shower block at the entrance (up to 600m from the far end of the site) and a couple of portaloos out on the site. No problem for us in the motorhome of course.

We found it handy for iona, walking into Fhionnphort for the ferry.

There are masses of birds to be seen, I saw a redshank on a telgraph pole at about 10 paces!

Overall a wonderful spot.

We hadn't booked but received a warm welcome at this amazing site adjoining beautiful beach and spectacular views and sunsets - best appreciated if you camp on the edge of the beach.

We arrived in a stiff wind (force 3) and opted to camp back from the edge of the beach where there was a bit more shelter - however, there isn't a lot of shelter anywhere and if the wind had been much stronger we would have struggled with our frame tent.

Site is huge so plenty of space and seemed to be well drained with plenty of flat spots with the grass kept short by grazing sheep. Great beach for kids and bay which is good for canoeing. Site is very well maintained with really well built facilities - hot showers, toilets, washing area and freezer.

Also two portable toilets in the camping area. The lowering of the ferry charges has meant more people coming to Mull this year so with 60+ families on site when we were there, facilities were stretched at times. Although we didn't have to wait, there were queues for the two gents toilets in the main block.

Wished we had more time. Great value, magical spot and highly recommended.
